TEST DRIVE MEME ( 002 )
Test Drive Meme #2
Hello, and welcome to LifeAftr! We’re pleased that you’re expressing an interest in the game. Here, you can test the waters, gauge how your character may fare in the world of LifeAftr, and even gain some in-game incentives, if you so choose.
Remember that Reserves will open on August 17th and that Applications will open on August 24th!
Two important notes:

Remember that Reserves will open on August 17th and that Applications will open on August 24th!
1. LifeAftr's test drives take place on the island of Mu, which exists apart from the real world and possesses a dream-like quality that characters are innately aware of from the moment they appear on its shores. No need to panic or fret. Dreams are odd things, after all - and anything can happen in them. Why would anyone question where their mind chooses to wander in its sleep?
2. Due to the nature of Mu, threads in our test drive can not only be accepted as thread samples in your application, but can be accepted as game canon as well. In fact, certain choices your character makes in Mu have the potential to bear in-game consequences, largely in the form of test drive reward items.

I'm on a Boat
The rhythmic rocking may be soothing to start with - perhaps reminiscent of how an infant might feel, rocked in the cradle. Well, up until you wake up long enough to take stock of your surroundings. You're on a flimsy wooden raft, comprised of logs lashed together with straw-like twine. You're surrounded by water on four sides, with the only landmass for miles rearing like an inkblot on the horizon.
Right - and you're not alone, either. You have a raftmate, and they're probably just as shocked and displeased to be here as you are. Good thing the boat appears to have come with a pair of oars - as well as a pair of very large butcher knives.
Those, ah...are probably just for survival's sake.
Probably. Though that's rather up to you, isn't it?

The Beast of the Bay
A roaring bonfire, the sound of waves lapping up against the sand, the uniform dark blanketing all but the orange glow of the embers at your feet - what more could you ask for? Those who huddle around the flames for warmth will find themselves oddly compelled to make something of the setting. It's simply too perfect to resist.
It's time, once again, to tell a story.
In fact, your lives may very well depend on it. As long as there is silence, the fires begin to dim, and the flames sink low. And in the distance, you swear you can hear...a snarling, a liquid yip-growl of a great stalking thing with slavering jaws. Maybe you glimpse it in the corner of your eye, dark-furred and clawed with golden slits for eyes that glow like molten amber.

For as long as your fire burns, you're safe. But you'll need a story to fuel it...and if the story is insufficient, if it's more lie than it is truth, then there's a beast that's hungry for your failure.
Get Spelunked On
The caves built into the cliffs lining the beach may be imposing, but you're going to need protection from the elements, and you might not have much choice if you want to last the night. In you inevitably go - or maybe you simply wake up there, having bypassed the need for a raft and a bad-tempered boatmate.
Never fear if you lack a natural means of producing light - it seems that there's all manner of round, glowing orbs buried in the ceiling of each sea cave. Isn't that thoughtful?

Glowgrubs are pale, wormlike creatures that like to dangle from the ceiling like very peculiar stalactites. Most don't grow any larger than two or three feet, but they can be remarkably fast on the ground when they like to be - and they do like to be, when there are intruders afoot. Armed with fanged mouths on both ends of their slightly striated bodies, glowgrubs can deliver a nasty bite that, while not fatal, is dangerous in its own right.
Those who succumb to the bite of a glowgrub will find themselves drawn, trancelike, to deep water. But while a glowgrub can survive submerging itself in those murky depths for hours at a time, most oxygen-breathing creatures cannot.
So don't go wandering about all alone, all right?
( CODED BY BOOTYCALL )
I'm on a boat
He woke up.
Water slaps at the side of the surface he lies face down against. His hands clench, digging into the wood and he pushes himself up just as the very last thing he thought he'd hear graces the air. He turns his head slowly and there he is, laying on the other side of the boat in a pose too close to the last sight of him he has. It makes his stomach flip over to add to his wide eyed shock.
He turns fully around and folds his legs under him to keep from reaching out to tug on Komaeda's leg to make him move. He glances around. A pair of oars lie folded on top of one another beside...
His breath catches and he reaches out, taking both knives out of his classmate's reach. Setting them behind him he speaks up, trying to disguise the shake in his voice and falling.]
Shut up, no there isn't. We have oars and I can see something behind you.
[He grabs the oars and sets them into the water. He just has to haul them back right? Everything feels surreal. Maybe this is a dream and he passed out. Or maybe...maybe everything is a dream up until just after the fun house.]
What we doing out here? Come on, I need you to look ahead.
no subject
[He didn't stir and the sound of Hinata's voice, though a part of him felt... relief? Maybe. It was a bit of a mixture, the last time he had heard his voice it had been a bit monotone, telling him things he didn't really want to accept.]
As for being here, how would I know? Maybe you just aren't very good at getting me after all. Maybe we just fell further. I'm not sure which is worse, floating in the middle of nowhere, or being in a despairing world lacking Hope.
Yeah I see you. Hi!
You're not making any sense at all! [Not that that's new. While he'd usually argue. The last time he saw Komaeda...The only sound is the oars moving through the water.]
Just try and see, already. We can talk about where we are once we land.
no subject
[He finally opened one eye, though only half, and only to casually glance over at Hinata. He actually looked like Hinata, that was a bit peculiar. Things were quickly not adding up.]
We'll land, it's inevitable that we do.
no subject
Are you going to help or not?
no subject
I need a little more time.
[Which was true. He felt like he was going through too much reality whiplash. The island, the city, the depicted room in the program and now... the ocean. It really was a bit much all at once and that wasn't even factoring in the memories.]
Dr2 spoilers ahead, warning.
Don't take too long. When you're ready keep a watch for anything strange.
[He can't yet feel the burn from rowing but it will happen. Every pull on the oars drags them that much closer to shore. As he looks ahead he can see it. Hazy and indistinct but it's there.]
Hey. Do you think this is a dream?
[It has to be. Komaeda is dead.]
no subject
He opened a single eye to look towards where Hinata was rowing.]
It's not a dream, but close tone most likely. At least, I can only assume that. No matter what this is definitely the depths of the Neo World Program.
no subject
What the hell do you mean by program?!
[He can't fathom it. No. He can and that's why the bottom just dropped out of his stomach. He doesn't want to think about it! Komaeda has to be lying. Had to be!]
no subject
[His tone was almost annoyed, what sort of dumb question was that.]
Considering you came to get me, you have to know more than I do at this point. Well, at least what's going on now. I know exactly what this program is about.
no subject
[His frustration is surging up like a storm as he keeps rowing. His tone is clipped and sharp like a blade drawn out of its sheathe. There is no give. Just like trials.] I just examined your dead body and gathered the evidence for your murder! We shouldn't even be able to have this conversation!
[His brows furrow and metal scrapes on wood again as the knives shift at the sudden more vicious tempo of rowing..] Why am I dreaming about talking to you??
no subject
[He was still laying there, not bothering to get up or help.]
If you're going to be stupid just stop talking.
no subject
You've never said a straight answer and- [His hands clench on the handles and he leans into his rowing with a sharp hiss. If he lets Komaeda rile him up then he'll be playing right into his game.
Whatever it is.]
If what you're saying is correct then what did they all die for?! Why didn't they show back up? If it was just a program couldn't they re-enter it?!
no subject
[He couldn't help but sigh deeply, as if asked the dumbest question he had ever heard.]
All I know is my perspective though, since as far as I know I'm the only one who hasn't left yet. So why are you like this? You were the one who sent someone. You should be that someone, but you're not. You're like Hinata kun from before, from inside. But you weren't anywhere in the depths of where I was.
no subject
At least, not yet. He breathes in slowly, and lets go of his anger. They need to work together to get through this.]
...it seems like we've got conflicting information. Why don't you explain to me what I did? It doesn't sound familiar but if this is really a program - maybe this is a space between the two?
no subject
[He wasn't that sure about it. He had only gotten a very brief summery and didn't want to start sharing that information. He didn't feel comfortable trying to answer details he didn't know.]
But you're wrong, this can't be an in between.
