TEST DRIVE MEME ( 006 )

Test Drive Meme #6
Hello, and welcome to LifeAftr! We’re pleased that you’re expressing an interest in the game. Here, you can test the waters, gauge how your character may fare in the world of LifeAftr, and even gain some in-game incentives, if you so choose.

Remember that Reserves will open on December 17th! Due to the holiday season, Applications will be opening on December 26th, with an app period shifted to end on January 2nd instead of the usual timeframe!

Two important notes:
1. LifeAftr's test drives take place on the island of Mu, which exists apart from the real world and possesses a dream-like quality that characters are innately aware of from the moment they appear on its shores. No need to panic or fret. Dreams are odd things, after all - and anything can happen in them. Why would anyone question where their mind chooses to wander in its sleep?

2. Due to the nature of Mu, threads in our test drive can not only be accepted as thread samples in your application, but can be accepted as game canon as well. In fact, certain choices your character makes in Mu have the potential to bear in-game consequences, largely in the form of test drive reward items.

United We Stand
This particular month, Mu has seen fit to recreate the strange, dichotomous island of Monsun. Most of the information regarding this peculiar land can be found in the informational post linked, but as a quick rundown: Monsun's western side is a hot wasteland of a desert prone of disasters and mishaps, but will affect your character's emotional and psychological state in a positive sense, while its eastern side is a verdant forest filled with endless resources...as well as a tendency to bring out the absolute worst of your character.

The western region blazes with a vengeance, the imaginary sun roasting overhead. The psychological effects of this area of island will shine far more kindly upon you than the sun does; your character's best qualities have been brought to light, and the longer they remain here, the more profound those qualities will become.

This is probably a good thing, too. Because those cactus plants on the horizon seem to be moving closer...and closer...

In fact, they aren't really plants at all.
Those who squint may find themselves thinking of another, cuter version of sentient cacti found on other worlds, but the mutual relation to a certain desert plant is where the similarities come to an end. Walking cacti are silent predators who prefer to slowly approach their prey, avoiding being noticed by their targets until it is too late.

Luckily, these creatures do not rely on projectiles to attack. Rather, their needle thin spikes can extend up to one foot out of their bodies in a fast, powerful motion - more than enough to puncture flesh and muscle. If you've ever wanted to try death by acupuncture, these are your kind of monster... but if not, a sharp weapon or fire will certainly help whittle down their numbers.

Regardless, all of your best qualities will come to light quickly in a fight, whether it be courage, diplomacy, compassion, earnest hope, or whatever other positive traits you might bear. Such is Monsun's boon to you.

Divided We Fall
The east, on the other hand, is the polar opposite to that desert wasteland. The sun shines evenly through the thick spread of deciduous canopies, which shade you from the worst of that unforgiving heat. The verdant greenery is perfectly temperate and even tranquil.

A pity that you'll soon find your worst qualities manifesting at a rather rapid rate. The proper Monsun generally gives you a twenty-four hour window before your most despicable traits start to flourish, but Mu, it seems, has sped up the clock significantly.

Scattered across the rich landscape, a herd of deer can be found prancing eagerly about, seemingly oblivious to their potentiality as a food source. In fact, they hardly seem to react to the approach of foreign entities at all. They're quite placid, and content to sit idly back until attacked - at which point they'll do little more than flee at a brisk pace.
What an ideal set of circumstances, truly. But should anyone else impose upon your peace, you'd better hope they don't mind encountering you at your absolute worst.

Don't Fear the Succ
You wake on a boat. It's a very nice boat, make no mistake, weatherbeaten and worn as it may seem, but it's still a boat, and you're still surrounded with lapping waves, as far as the eye can see. Or as far as the eye can sea.

Still, no reason not to make the best of this, right? Just sit back, relax, and let the wind take you wherever it may. You hardly need to eat or sleep in the regular sense in dreams, and this might be a good deal more picturesque than many of the dreams you're probably used to. All told, this is really quite a nice diversion -

Hold on. Did something just bump up against the hull?

Yes, in fact. Something did. Something with long, long, reaching tentacles that will soon snake over the deck to try and grasp your vessel in a death grip much like that of a boa constrictor: designed to crush and destroy.

It seems you've run afoul of that legendary creature of the depths; the one that every sailor most fears.

A kraken.
Hope you're not averse to a little hentai.

... Right.

[ Okay. No School Living Club. She can't in good faith call that good, really. She hasn't seen hide nor hair of the living dead so far which already puts this place head and shoulders above Megurigaoka. Still. It was worth a try. ]

Then maybe... Tenmyouji? Is there anybody at all using that name?

[ She feels a little mean for opting for that first. But she thinks it might be her best bet. Because if the answer is yes then it's likely that Junpei's here, too

(and the possibility that it might be the wrong Junpei, who's going to look through her like she's a stranger, isn't one she wants to entertain right now)

and if Junpei's here, then things will be a little more bearable. If Junpei's here, then it checks out to her without even a moment of doubt that Church and Ardyn will be too. That's just how things work and she doesn't even think to question it. ]

[If only she knew.]

No, 'fraid not.

[It's not that surprising to him, and he does feel a little bad having to walk her through a litany of nos.]

[ Her shoulders sag a little bit but then she laughs and shakes her head. ]

No, no, it's fine-- well, it's not really fine but it's about what I expected.

[ It's an obvious lie. Even though she's smiling and laughing it off, the disappointment is clear as day in her eyes. ]

It's just, we're usually all joined at the hip. I thought if I'd been pulled into trouble then the rest of them would've been right there with me as usual.

[Ammy doesn't recall this place, not having set foot on the island of Monsun when its presence was announced. She opted to stay behind, on Enso, and cater to the left plants, gardens, and domesticated creatures other islanders kept, in their stead. This dreamlike presence, the ethereal feel, it is reminiscent of a different place, a different sort of influence, that she only vaguely recollects. And yet...this island is most certainly the one people left for, weeks ago.

The heat is unbearable, even for the sun goddess, and cooling herself by panting only gets her a mouth full of sand and dust. What she needs is shade, and water, finding herself pacing the desert in search of that river she knows exists....somewhere, on this barren landscape. It's in her travels that she comes across the little one, peering closely at him with a tilted head and perky ears. She can smell blood, and approaches slowly, though her body posture is kept loose and fluid, tail wagging happily.

He reminds her so much of the Sparrow Clan, in a way, and it's why Ammy is immediately both fond and protective of the young child. She sniffs at him, spies the painful looking thorns embedded in his skin, and folds her ears back with a sad whimper. Oh, this poor thing...that must hurt like nothing else. Ammy really wishes she had powers to heal, but she is not that kind of goddess, sadly. She does not possess those sorts of skills. Still, she can at least clean the wound a bit, if little Otus here doesn't mind a literal face full of wolf slobber. It's a bit of an antiseptic, and...if she tried hard enough, Ammy could Bloom up a medicinal plant, perhaps.

But she wouldn't know at all how to use it....mm.]

[ it is with a startled and silent gasp that Otus noticed the wolf-- but...tail wagging??? Isn't that?? A good thing?

The creature whimpers, and Otus is looking her over from a distance...is the wolf hurt, too? Geddy would probably be more cautious, but to the owl, she seems kind...and trusting in others has always been one of his goals. Give everyone a hand of friendship. Help the ones you meet. It's a little, soft whistle and a somewhat cheery smile that he boasts-- everything is okay! Look how okay everything is!

Unfortunately, moving his arms that much agitates his newly attached booboos. He tries to cover them with his cape, but that only hurts more...

He looks like he's trying to hide them from her. Otus can be a capable owl! A really good one! ]

sun

[personal profile] shinetagonist 2017-12-26 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
[And here's someone else refusing to take off their hood- though Hibiki's at least is white and long enough that it IS protecting his face.

When he spots a girl staring up at the sun he peeks up as well, making sure there's no UFOs incoming... before walking over. If not noticed he will give into his instinct and poke her right in the small of the back]

Boo.

[personal profile] scissorhood 2017-12-26 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
[At least she's probably sure this won't drive them to insanity. Hopefully.]

Huh. That's weird but you know? [She grins.] I think that's pretty neat. Dad will be interested in hearing things about this place when I get back!

[personal profile] scissorhood 2017-12-26 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
[She surprisingly doesn't notice him. The sun is so interesting after all! She would keep looking if he didn't just touch her.

Poor move.

She turns on her heel, grabbing his wrist in a smooth motion before realizing what she was doing.]

Hey--hey, you really shouldn't walk up on people like that.
shinetagonist: (66)

[personal profile] shinetagonist 2017-12-26 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
[He's a little startled, but not much when she grabbed him. Instead he kinda... rotates his hand as much as he can until they are kinda awkwardly.... holding hands? Shaking hands?]

Sorry, you were so distracted I couldn't help it.

[personal profile] scissorhood 2017-12-26 08:50 am (UTC)(link)
[She stares at his hand, blushes, and lets go.]

Really? Hah... Guess you couldn't. I'd do the same thing.
shinetagonist: (63)

[personal profile] shinetagonist 2017-12-26 08:55 am (UTC)(link)
Right? It's too tempting.

[That blush makes him grin]

[personal profile] scissorhood 2017-12-26 09:07 am (UTC)(link)
Shame on me for letting down my guard.

[She can't afford to be like Thumbelina, after all.]

Too bad Thumby's not around. Now that's a girl that would jump ten feet.

[personal profile] scissorhood 2017-12-26 09:14 am (UTC)(link)
[For a brief second she imagined someone else with silver hair and a young face but, no. It was just the person who helped her. Someone who definitely didn't have pink eyes.]

Easy, easy... Sister Red is right here.
shinetagonist: (67)

[personal profile] shinetagonist 2017-12-26 09:20 am (UTC)(link)
Thumby?

[That sure is a name]
bloodyashes: (Maybe he's born with it -)

[personal profile] bloodyashes 2017-12-26 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry. Probably half of the people here were pulled in completely on their own.

[There's no one he knows here, either, but unlike most people, Asch finds he almost prefers it that way. Fewer expectations. Which is why he doesn't say anything when she's so obviously disappointed.]

[personal profile] scissorhood 2017-12-26 09:34 am (UTC)(link)
Thumbelina's kind of a mouthful, you know? [Though don't ever say that to her face.] We just call her Thumby sometimes.
shinetagonist: (60)

[personal profile] shinetagonist 2017-12-26 09:38 am (UTC)(link)
Like the fairy tale? [He's pretty well read in English stories, and now noticing her hood he has to wonder if that's infecting his dreams...]

[personal profile] scissorhood 2017-12-26 09:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Like the--she stares at him. Really hard.]

Like the what?

[...Gretel said something about that but Gretel's crazy.]
shinetagonist: (65)

[personal profile] shinetagonist 2017-12-26 09:45 am (UTC)(link)
Fairy tales, you know, like little legends. I think Thumbalina is the story about a tiny girl that was born outta a flower...? I don't really remember.

[personal profile] scissorhood 2017-12-26 09:50 am (UTC)(link)
Stories? I think I get the gist of it but I don't really remember being told any of those. [She frowns. That is really weird...] She's short but she comes to about my shoulder.

[Hm...] Did she have any sisters?
shinetagonist: (67)

[personal profile] shinetagonist 2017-12-26 09:57 am (UTC)(link)
Not that I remember. Does the Thumbalina you know have them?

[personal profile] scissorhood 2017-12-26 09:59 am (UTC)(link)
She's the oldest. Snow White's the middle one, I think she has a complex about that--and the youngest is Sleepy. I mean, Sleeping Beauty. She doesn't really talk much.
shinetagonist: (57)

[personal profile] shinetagonist 2017-12-26 10:02 am (UTC)(link)
Those are all names from stories too! Are you Red Riding Hood then? If so I'm not wearing the right hood to be the wolf, I'm sorry.

[personal profile] scissorhood 2017-12-26 10:12 am (UTC)(link)
H-huh? [That startles her.

Where did you get your name?

That was a question her Dad asked many of the new people coming through. Sometimes they knew, sometimes they didn't... No. It couldn't be. She was real. She was human. Just because she was named after some story didn't change that. Even if the others said during certain battles there was more of a canine look to her.

There certainly was no reason to think of a large wolf slinking around in overgrown ruins. She touched her forehead for a moment, shaking it briefly to get the sun out of her eyes. Then warily, she regained her smile.]
Hah.. You got it. I'm Red. Don't know much about wolves, though. There wasn't any in the Jail.
shinetagonist: (56)

[personal profile] shinetagonist 2017-12-26 10:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Hibiki realizes almost at once that he's fumbled into something he shouldn't have said- he's no the best fighter, or strategist, or most powerful with magic. But his skill has always been his ability to read others.

So he ignores his curiosity about this Jail and anything else, instead lightly touching her shoulder]

Red, huh? Well, it's rude for me to know your name and not give mine, right?
