In the case that one's deepest desire cannot be granted, will the island move on to the next fulfillable wish or attempt to compromise?

If a character's wish is a nonspecific desire to protect/ care for another PC how would that be interpreted? You can probably guess what this is about. I'm sorry my cast is so gay
