On February 16th, the Drifter will awaken to find that their lungs no longer tighten, and their energy levels have vastly improved. In short, they seem to have made a full recovery, though the speed at which they progress from ill to healthy is left to player discretion: they can wake up perfectly cured, or gradually improve over time.

The speed at which they deteriorate back to their illness, too, may be left to player discretion -- but at some point on February 20th, the Drifter's healthful condition will inevitably come to an end.
