Ignis draws in a startled breath when he hears that, fingers unconsciously curling tighter in the Shield's jacket. The answer is completely unexpected and when Gladio lifts his head away, Ignis finds himself looking up at his friend as if he might be able to read his expression even though he can't. Sorrow is etched into Ignis' own expression as he thinks about the probable fate of the birds who had kept them company through so much of their journey.
"So much lost. I can't even being to imagine the pain you've been through," he unwraps one hand from Gladio's jacket so he can brush his thumb over the Shield's cheek. "This island is no paradise, but I hope you can rest a little and heal so you may return to the battle stronger."
Gladio didn't ask for for a break, Ignis knows that for certainty. He never would ask for it. Perhaps that is why whatever is in charge of bringing them here chose to bring him when they did.
