March Aftermath: What Happened on Ai'tuoh

MARCH AFTERMATH: AI'TUOH
First of all, we'd like to apologize for the delay in getting this information to you. Much of it is background information, and we wanted to touch base with some of the players involved before making any grand decisions. That being said, we do want to let players know how their actions would affect those on Ai'tuoh!

The Rescue: Reflected Light
With the joint efforts of the Storyteller, the Jormun, and your lovely selves, the rescue was pulled off quite nicely! Almost everyone who was cast into the Standing Water was retrieved. Those who may have known Akko or Gobbet personally, however, will note that neither of them were recovered, nor was the Storyteller able to retrieve them.

In addition, the actions of Keith, Muffet, and Commander Shepard led to the successful rescue of 41916 and Ninth. Quick thinking allowed for Keith to be tied to 41916 with magic, who in turn was capable of leading her sibling back to the world above. While exceptionally grateful, 41916 and her sibling elected to stay on Ai'tuoh. The many conversations that imprisoned characters had with the guard have opened her eyes, somewhat - it's true, she thinks, that there is a better way for the people of Ai'tuoh to live, free from the constant grip of fear of the Unerring Law. It's due for a rewrite - or perhaps a little purging of its own.

Congratulations, adventurers. You've lit a spark.

Prior to the island's departure, 41916 opted to impart one final piece of information: her name. Mari Zalin will not forget what you have done for her, her sibling, or her people.

The Aftermath: A Hollow Moon
In the wake of the rescue, Ai'tuoh was left reeling due to multiple points of damage, thanks to a truly devastating cocktail of one child's small explosives and plenty of very pissed-off magicians:
[ ♆ ] Gabe Goodman blew apart a wall of the barracks and ensured that everyone's items were recovered.

[ ♆ ] The Knight caused damage to the pathway leading to the Standing Water itself, while Lup successfully burned down the Library and caused significant damage to the military docks.

[ ♆ ] While the civilian docking areas remained mostly intact, Connor Murphy and Ignis Scientia worked together in stealing a new cargo boat, navigating it back to Ensō with the assistance of the Jormun.

[ ♆ ] Chara Dreemurr ensured the mana pool would not be discovered, blowing up the entrance to the cave it had been hidden in prior to their departure.
Civilian casualties were kept to a minimum as a whole, with relatively few injuries occurring due to the library fire and attack at the barracks. The confusion that ensued, however, caused injuries of its own, with many in the city panicked by the chaos and significant losses to Ai'tuoh's militia.

In a surprising gesture of compassion Muffet and Laurent put together medical kits and food for those who may need it, with Laurent risking potential punishment sneaking back into the city to pass the packs around. His infiltration was very successful, aiding many in need and further coloring what was once a purely negative insight into foreign visitors. As the only aid came from those who had caused the damage in the first place, many of those on Ai'tuoh have begun to find themselves coming to their own conclusions.

Perhaps in future, the fate of the people of Ai'tuoh will become more evident. Mari and Ninth may have elected to stay, but the ripples of your involvement will doubtless be felt for some time.

Small Asides: It's Over Too Soon
Just for funsies, here are some of our notes about the goings-on of Ai'tuoh's society for the curious.
[ ♆ ] The island city's name of Ai'tuoh is pronounced with a long "a," meaning it is pronounced "ay-too-oh" Sound that out in your mind.

[ ♆ ] Our bartender NPC in the docks has a name, though no one asked it. It is Arl Kenning.

[ ♆ ] Citizens of Ai'tuoh are encouraged to have a great deal of children, as it's expected that only a small percentage of them will make it to adulthood. Most of those condemned to the Standing Water are children due to the Unerring Law viewing them as adults once they pass the age of ten. Rather understandably, many of them had difficulty learning to rein in emotional outbursts in time. It is for this reason that Ninth was named as they were - parents are encouraged, likewise, to not get attached to their children, and thus they are numbered rather than named until after their tenth or eleventh years. Ninth is the literal ninth child for their parents to bear, with Mari being the second.
As always, we'll have a thread for questions and comments, and we encourage you to make use of our Mod Contact page for private correspondence! We'd especially love to receive feedback on this event and what did or didn't work for you!
