June Event: Chaos, Chaos!

JUNE EVENT: CHAOS, CHAOS!

Whilst Io is still a strong entry for rest, relaxation, and self-indulgence, many adventurers have noted the appearance of something that doesn't quite align with any of those themes. The Clown Box ceased approaching island-goers on June 7th, but that doesn't mean it's gone entirely...
Or that it doesn't have a gift for everyone, willing recipient or otherwise.
The World Revolving

On June 17th, the Clown Box will return from its brief departure, ready to sow the seeds of discourse and confusion amongst the unwitting, unwilling, and its personal favorite - the easily disturbed.

Those still venturing to Io, as well as all those who have ventured to its shores prior - and even those who have associated with those who have visited - will find that something has...changed. Abruptly, alarmingly changed, and impossible to ignore. Of course, some of these changes may be quite familiar to you. It's simply that they don't truly belong to you at all.

They may, however, belong to someone else you know.
From the morning of June 17th to the evening of June 22nd, adventurers unfortunate enough to be caught in the Clown Box's reign of chaos will find themselves affected by one (or more) of the following:
[ ♆ ] Freaky Friday: The mirror can often portray a foreign person for some, but never so literally as when you find yourself in the body of someone else entirely. Whether retaining your original powers or swapping your powerset for the body you now occupy, odds are you won't quite be feeling like yourself. Opting in for this aspect of the event should be noted below under our bodyswap opt-in top-level, keeping in mind that you have the option of preplanning which body your character will find themselves in, or leaving yourself open to the whims of RNG. RNG opt-ins are not compulsory, but will close the 17th.

[ ♆ ] The Switch is Now On Off: The powers of those staying in their own bodies aren't safe from the shifts occurring, either. While you may be stuck within your own physical form, powers are just as liable to switch between characters - or even disappear completely. Those who've always wanted to shoot fire from their hands will finally have the chance to experience this! On the other hand, you just might lose it all...and it turns out, approaching the world without those skills is a whole harder than one might have expected. As with the above prompt, a powerswap top-level is available below for those who have an idea of who they're like to do, and for those wishing to opt-in for the non-compulsory RNG.

[ ♆ ] New Bits and Bobs: Staying in your body doesn't mean it isn't liable to change. There are plenty of different races, species, and non-organic life forms in LifeAftr - and your own allocation in this could very well be what's changed. A species swap can occur for any type of life-form found in LifeAftr (save the god NPCs), be it player character or bestiary entity; from elf to human, robot to living organism - and the opposite. Just remember to breathe if your new body calls for it, eat if you've never had to before, and in the case of those now full of wires and circuitry, attend your local mana pool every few days for a battery charge.

[ ♆ ] The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly: You've always been good - very, very good. Lawful Good, even. Upholding what's right is your nom de plume! Just...not today. While not an exact science, most characters can easily find themself falling into one of nine D&D Alignments that reasonably cover most of their choices and actions. Unfortunately for them, that alignment is about to change. Your total sweetheart is about to get a thirst for world domination, whilst that aloof neighbor of yours suddenly cares a little too much about what's right.

[ ♆ ] History Repeats: For those who missed the chance to explore these options in previous events, canonpoint swaps and aging up or down are both options that can also be explored throughout this event! This will likely be the last time these options are available for some time, if again at all, so please feel free to take advantage of this event to chase ideas you've had throughout the year.
Have a different idea for a swap that characters could make? Suggest it below and we'll be sure to follow it up for approval! And remember, bodyswap and power swaps have a signup top-level below, so be sure to fill them in if you'd prefer to RNG the change your character will go through. Characters may undergo however many of these changes as you like. The only limit is your imagination!

Lastly, we would like to thank Echo, our Muffet ([personal profile] prettypurpleparlor) for serving as the inspiration for this event's themes, as she was the one to propose the initial body-swap event!
I Can Do Anything!

As confused and disturbed by this series of events as you may be, Eleu, the local avatar, will be absent for the first few days of the event...until the evening of June 20th. Unwilling to leave the Clown Box running amok across their island, Eleu will ask for those capable of doing so to join their efforts in destroying the box itself, providing all who opt into the battle with a complimentary Honeycomb Sledgehammer - and some advice of what to expect in tackling this strange being.

It would be wise to pay attention, adventurers, as fighting the Clown Box may get a little... abstract.
Fully engrossed in promoting change and chaos, the Clown Box will not only refuse to stay stationary, but also in one piece. The amount of hits the box can take is relatively small, but damage will only occur if adventurers work together to herd all of its pieces back to a solid form. Whacking is the easy part. Harder still is handling a rain of acidic paintball pellets as the various abstract pieces of the Clown Box dance about you. To top if all off, the Clown Box may very well hit you with all sorts of status effects that cause the scrambling swaps and shifts listed above, seemingly at random, and will even try and alter your "interface" wherever possible. Whatever does that mean, you might ask? You'll just have to wait and see...

Whatever the case is, teamwork will be integral to ensure that positioning, AoE styled magic and weapons, and creative tactics are effective in providing you with the strikes you need.

Eager to tackle this fight head on? A boss fight top-level will go live with our IC event post, allowing all the time needed to get in your contributions to the battle prior to the event's outcome. Anyone may participate, and there will be no thread order. Don't worry about responding promptly - as long as you participate at all, your contributions will be acknowledged! Outside of any event effects your character may be struggling with at the time of this fight, do keep in mind that the potential for injury and even death is high, though the extent of any damage your character may take will be left to your own discretion. In short: they can be as injured or dead as you would like them to.

Death penalties will not be reduced for this event, however, so keep that in mind!
Bye-Bye!

In order to allow for additional time to thread the final battle, the outcome of June's event will be provided for you all on June 25th. Dependant on your own actions during this time, this outcome has the potential to change...and may provide key information to take you into the next arc of LifeAftr's story, as well as answers to all sorts of questions. What is the Clown Box? Where did it come from? Why can't Eleu get rid of it on their own? And how did it get here?
We look forward to sharing the results with you all as we zip ever closer to LifeAftr's second anniversary.

In the meantime, feel free to use this post to ask questions, plot with your fellow players, and come up with nefarious plans for this month's event!
