The notes, inharmonious as they are, grate against his already highly frazzled nerves and make his fingers curl into his palms. Not to mention that attitude that this guy is giving off is really pissing him off. (One could throw in a pot-kettle comment right about now, but the irony would fly over Newt's head.)
Now, any normal adult with actual maturity and self control would simply walk away, probably. Unfortunately, the person who happens to usually act as a buffer to divert Newt's temper and keep him out of (relative) trouble is not here. That person also usually 90% of Newt's impulse control, so, well...though while what Newt should do is walk away, instead, he's shoving himself to his feet, hands curled, teeth grit]
