December Exploration: I'll Find Another Point of View

DECEMBER EXPLORATION

Hello, intrepid adventurers! While December may be fairly low key in regards to the events surrounding characters' waking moments, it seems that in their dreams, something will have changed…

Player Event: Stay in My Memories

For this month, Storytelling has been adapted to a special player plot, as suggested by Dragon! Read below for more information regarding the specifics, and of course, feel free to use this post for plotting as well.

With some marked shifts on the horizon, the Storyteller will appear to be busier and busier as the month wears on. Is it a lack of attention that causes it? A lack of power? Either way, characters will find their monthly evening on the island of Mu slightly different than usual.

With the Storyteller seemingly absent from the proceedings, Mu itself seems to be taking an interest in the stories characters are willingly - and unwillingly - going to tell. For this month, you may choose to weave a character’s tale from within LifeAftr, or from your character’s canon, at the cost of having said story played out entirely in memory.

Mu will shift to reflect the memory or story being portrayed. Characters will then be witness to these, both willingly or unwillingly, until the story has played itself out in full. Characters will be capable of interacting with each other, but not the memories themselves, making for a somewhat awkward time of things for everyone involved.
A very tired and apologetic Storyteller will of course compensate characters for their troubles. Any memory witnessed during December’s storytelling will be worth two offerings, meaning a total of six offerings can be collected in total. Memories will need to be played ICly for favors to be accrued, as every memory will be public.

And these additional offerings may come in very handy, as you’ll find out in the near future…
New Island: Chol

As advised earlier this month, a new island will be appearing on the 14th! Chol will be added to the locations page in the coming days!

A small island, Chol is currently the site of a great amount of activity. Our adventurers are seemingly not the first to arrive there, nor will they be the last. While no Search Requests are required to see the layout of the island itself, characters will have the chance to interact with a new NPC, as well as barter and trade with NPCs that will be out and about for very interesting reasons.

Chol will see the introduction of January’s event, offering plenty of time for IC preparations and gathering of knowledge. This event is due to be scheduled in late January, and will pose a high risk of death. More details regarding this will be provided, both OOCly and ICly, at the appropriate time.
Holiday Application Period

Lastly, we recently posted a plurk to confirm interest for the December application round. Due to the holidays, we have done a slight shift to the current schedule:

Applications will open December 26th, and will close January 2nd. This means the IC intro post for the month January will go up on January 5th, before our schedule resumes its usual pacing of applications closing at the end of the month. In future, it is likely we will continue to confirm interest in December prior to using this schedule!

semi-related to the above, does this mean that the story-teller (heh) can observe the memory with the observers and/or talk to them possibly?

Like in a "well fuck that sure is me down there" kind of way

hey birb what if a character is possibly unrecognizable in the memory in question (i.e. if they were a literal baby at the time)

will there be any way of knowing that this memory belongs to This Person or nah
ungrieved: (✘ you wonder which is worse)

More for clarification for those of us who didn't do IC storytellings for their old memories but - would I be right in assuming you only get favors for new memories/stories? As in, ones the storyteller wouldn't know already?
shineinside: (Y: I'll do this myself)

Is weaving a memory replay an in-character choice, like normal storytelling, or does it just Happen involuntarily?
shineinside: (Y: If you say so)

Sorry, got some more! I'm a bit hazy on the experience for spectators - are they just seeing it as if they were bystanders to the event, or actually seeing the world of the memory through that character's eyes? If the latter, how does interacting with each other during a memory work? Are we MST3King each other's backstories?
shineinside: (Y: Oh do go on)

OK, thank you!

this is a stupid complicated question i'm sorry and it's more of a "I can do this, right" - but if we have a headcanon for how a character normally senses their world's form of magic, we can just give the handwavium for people experiencing the memory from the backseat that it is something they can understand, even if it'd normally be complete nonsense as a sensory input, right

because man let me tell you about homestuck my headcanons for how the fuck abyss' jrpg magic works

Wanders in to make things difficult.

This is such a wonderful event! It's also rather visually-focused, so I have to ask all the questions about how it works with the local blind guy. When he's recounting his own memories, I'm assuming that he'll 'see' them first person. After all, they are his memories, but what about other people's memories? Will he be limited to feel/sound/smell etc or will the magical nature of the event allow him to see them within his mind as if he were remembering something he'd seen before losing his vision?

JUST TO BE SURE-Is it okay to have distortions in memory too? Like if a character is super young and can't remember someone, their face can be blurry or have other weird junk like that happen?

Are we required to write out the memories in detail, or can we embed/link videos of said memories?
