Jules was honestly startled to have someone suddenly there and offering to help him. That was definitely not usual, and he couldn't help being suspicious. He was pretty much suspicious of everything, people especially. In this case, however, suspicion isn't the reason he ignores that presumed aid.

Sure, he was known for being an asshole and pissing people off, but this kid hasn't done anything to deserve it. At least not yet.

"Would," he started off without sarcasm but that only lasted for a single word, "but if I wanted you to join me I would invite you in and not just drag you in unwillingly."

Jules wasn't totally human, and he weighed a lot more than your average human man. Even if Shion had something to hold onto to brace himself, he still wouldn't be able to pull Jullien out of the quicksand. Not unless he was a hell of a lot stronger than he looked.
