July Update: Search Requests

JULY UPDATE: SEARCH REQUESTS
Hello adventurers! After a notable day of silence on our end, we're excited to share with you all some rather large updates on our Search Request system and the new island of Umui. Sit tight and make sure to read the following carefully, as these changes will be in place as of this post.

Umui is Being Retroactively Expanded
At the arrival of yet another lore-heavy island, many of you went above and beyond to prove to us just how ready you are to be engaged in LifeAftr's lore. This has been flattering, thrilling, and utterly delightful - while also causing us to realize that perhaps, we had a bit more lore to share than landmass to search through.

In order to share more with you (and with more of you!) Umui's map has been slightly expanded in the southern regions to provide us with a little more opportunity to reveal everything we have to share. Umui has seen a radical uptick in how many search requests we've received in a given span of time (players covered nearly 50% of the island's landmass within less than 48 hours of the island's IC introduction), so thank you for bearing with us as we realized a little too late that we'd perhaps misjudged just how much space we needed to cover just how much there is to go through.

This change will not affect any of the squares characters have already searched, including searches that have been submitted but have not yet been processed. If you have any concerns that this may cause IC retcons, please let us know, so we can assist you best we can.

Updates to the Search Request System
Anyone who may have checked the Search Requests page in the last few minutes may have noticed it has changed quite radically. With the uptick of search requests seen over the past few days, we've had the chance to spot some holes in the previous system that weren't spotted before.

While taking these flaws into account, we also took the opportunity to remove some aspects that weren't being utilized. We very strongly encourage giving the updated page a read, as the following additions (and restrictions) have now been implemented, and will apply to any search requests submitted going forward:
[ ♆ ] Characters are now limited to submitting one search per week. They may join a further two groups, but cannot be the character to submit that request. For players with multiple characters, this means one search per character.

[ ♆ ] A maximum of two squares can be searched in any given search request.

[ ♆ ] Searches being conducted by groups containing three characters or fewer, searching two squares now has a more concrete timeframe. To thoroughly cover two squares, characters will need to camp in this area overnight - which may sometimes lead to unpleasant surprises.

[ ♆ ] Searches being conducted by groups containing four characters or more have the option to divide the party in order to search two squares, while still having time to return home safely.

[ ♆ ] Rudimentary searches have been removed due to lack of use. This also allows for search requests to be slightly more straightforward.

[ ♆ ] Some neat art has found a home on the page, with huge thanks to Ruka (our resident Knight and Papyrus)! We would also like to thank Alex, Nick, and Echo for providing some initial feedback for revamping the Search Request system.
Further clarity as to IC timeframes and how these timeframes come about have been added to the Search Requests page. Overall, the majority of the page has been rewritten entirely! If you have any questions, concerns, or comments in regards to these changes, please don't hesitate to contact us, either below or privately.

Some More Thanks!
Lastly, we'd like to thank you all for being so incredibly supportive these past three days. We couldn’t be prouder of the community we have in LifeAftr; each and every one of you has ensured that the work conducted recently (and since the game's initial conception) remains beyond rewarding for us. Your enthusiasm continues to blow us away; we sincerely hope that your interest in Umui simply grows alongside the island itself.

As always, there’s a top-level below for any questions, concerns, or feedback! If you feel something could be done better, or you’d like to comment on something that's working well for you, please feel free to utilize this. You can also contact the mods directly!

Hey! Firstly, great job on the search request updates. This isn't about that, thank you for your hard work!

My... potential issue? is nothing serious, just a labelling/ info dissemination thing regarding the network.

You know how the noticeboard is a rock and the Stones of Farspeech are... also rocks? I realised that might be confusing as to what's what? (I was talking to another player and it turns out they were kinda confused about what the network allows for. PM me if you need more info!)

Possibly, rebranding the noticeboard may be helpful? Or provide some explanation on the pinned post as to what the two modes of communication are, since the explanations now are in the FAQ which is already quite heavy. (I also realise now that Farspeech posts are labelled anything from "broadcast" to "Lupnet" or "iStone", which doesn't help. That's on us, oops.) I'm not entirely sure what's the best way to help people make the learning curve on this, but I trust your judgement call.

It's not a pressing issue, but maybe it's something you might want to consider in your next patch work!

Yeah, I absolutely understand that. I'm not sure what could improve the system best either.

Hopefully improvements can be found in the future!
