Prior to coming to LifeAftr, what is an aspect of your character that they struggled with - be it a shortcoming, a fear, a bad habit, or eccentricity? Isolation was a very big part of the Drifter's life. When the Guardian offered them kindness, it was pretty unprecedented. As a result, they're still...hung up on that, essentially? They try to boil down acts of kindness to a debt they can repay, because they never know how long they or others might last; they don't someone to die without knowing what that meant to them, basically. Besides that, the Drifter is also prone to charging Right The Fuck In without any backup plan. Their means of problem-solving essentially boils down to "cut the thing to pieces until it stops moving," and when they have to solve a problem in literally any other way, they struggle. This has gotten to be a little less since Umui forced them to Talk About Their Dang Problems, but it's still there.

What do they struggle with now? Is it the same as the above? It's a combination! The Drifter is very bad at asking for help, and still doesn't believe they're necessarily...worthy of kindness? It's a waste, as far as they're concerned, for anyone to devote resources or time to them, since they're Dying. They still kind of rush into things, and they're really, really not comfortable just sitting alone with their own thoughts. They prefer Action to the exclusion of all else, even when it doesn't make sense. They still try to reduce acts of compassion to a system they can balance out. Admitting they've gotten attached to people was a super difficult thing for them to do, because drifters aren't supposed to get attached, but they have no idea how to Stop.

What personal demons, specifically, haunt your character from canon or from past game experiences? Judgment is the biggest one. The Immortal Cell still stalks their nightmares, and they're haunted by the possibility that their sacrifice ultimately meant nothing at all. They also still dwell on the Jackal, the god that guided them and helped them by reviving them after death and pointing the way to Judgment. And, ofc, the Guardian ([personal profile] smallkindness) is still a constant point of stress because they're here and they're alive and they're not supposed to be but the Drifter can at least make them understand how much their kindness meant to them but they don't know how to do that because they're not supposed to have gotten attached but they are attached and this has gotten so complicated please help.

What is the type of person your character hopes to become? They...want to live? That's basically their only criteria. They Want To Live Fam.

What is the type of person you hope your character will become? Someone who isn't afraid to ask for help, for one. Someone who can acknowledge their value outside of what they can physically Do for someone else. Someone who can acknowledge and actively maintain the attachments they've made outside of tracking a made-up statistic of "debt" and repayment. Someone who can conceptualize who and what they are outside of the illness that's more or less defined their existence and their motivations.

Do any of the Seven Deadly Sins stand out as applicable to your character? Why?
ENVY - They don't begrudge other people for their health so much, but the Drifter's motivations are almost entirely built around their desire to cure themself of their sickness. They define themself pretty exclusively by their want to be healthy and free of their illness.
GREED - This is more of a passive vice, but it's there. It has to do with being a drifter, who is devoted to picking over old and broken history and the like. When they see things that can be looted, They Take. This isn't really for the purposes of hoarding, but out of remembrance for the fallen, so it's fairly benevolently motivated?
WRATH - This has to do with their preference to act to solve problems. They take action to the exclusion of all else, often not stopping to consider that maybe charging the fuck in with your sword blazing is not always the best option. It's patience that they lack, mostly.

Do any of the Seven Virtues stand out as applicable to your character? Why?
KINDNESS - On the polar opposite of Envy, Kindness is a HUGE thing for them since the Guardian's sacrifice, so that's Important. Again, this comes at the cost of themself - they'll pour everything they are into this, because they don't see the point in not. They're ephemeral, they're temporary, they're dying, so they might as well put all their eggs in the kindness basket you dig
CHARITY - On the FLIPSIDE, the Drifter is also big on kindness and self-sacrifice. It was sacrifice of their self that ultimately saved the world back home, so despite their proclivity to Greed? They're also a little too willing to regard themself as expendable since they're already dying. Self-sacrifice was the only thing that could ultimately save the world, after all.
HUMILITY - Again, their willingness to see themself as expendable is not necessarily a super good thing. They're very brave to the point of completely disregarding their own limits!! it's not great!
DILIGENCE - The Drifter is hardwired to never. give. up. And so they don't. If there's even the vaguest possibility of a cure, they will devote everything they are to uncovering it. Not even death has been enough to stop them in the past. They're persistent to a fault, but if there's something they can Do in service to achieving a goal, they will stop at nothing to attain it.
