New Island: Maati
NEW ISLAND: MAATI

The votes are in! And despite the abstracted nature of this round of voting, most characters elected to vote for the fourth option presented: the one represented by golden flames, a set of scales, and a number of shapes that resemble birds.
The newest addition to LifeAftr can be found on our Locations page. The Storyteller alert explorers on the night prior that the new island will be ready for exploration via the mana pools on November 10th.
Transportation
The Storyteller will manage to link Maati's mana pool with Ensō's. As they are still in a state of recovering from the havoc the fabric of Mu has played on your psyches, as well as the multiple resurrections they had to enact all at once, they do not - or rather, cannot - inform you of any specific dangers or things to watch out for on the island of Maati.
The mana pool is present on the E5 square, should the characters choose to arrive via that method. In addition, characters are free to sail there on their own, if they so choose.
The Storyteller does mention the name of the island, at least, in the initial dream.
Be the Power to Compel Me
The island itself is relatively bare, surrounded on all sides by cliffs. The cliffs are sheer, so much so that attempts to climb them will come with a high chance of failure unless characters invest a few stories into proper climbing gear. Those with powers of flight and teleportation will also be incapable of reaching the top until these areas have been explored...or otherwise made available to them.
This land lacks very many natural resources due to how rocky and desolate it appears to be. However, that does not mean that nothing can be uncovered in this area at all - old tools and equipment can be uncovered with enough searching, as though a great many struggles or battles were fought here, a long time ago.
However, from a distance, it can be discerned that Maati is a peculiarly shaped island: a seven-pointed star. While the center remains the only part of that land that can be initially charted, the different prongs of the star are each walled off with a large door, each bearing a different, glowing sigil. Those who remember the caves underneath Ensō might recall this occurrence as worryingly similar.

Won't You Liberate Me?
The avatar of Maati, similar to Harv, will make their presence known rather quickly. Their temple can be found at the island's center, and it will be fairly obvious when one draws close: some of the only green on Maati can be found there! Their temple is a fairly simple thing, built of iron and copper. Yet more copies of the same seven sigils that can be found on the doors are inlaid periodically across the exterior, carved from differently-colored variants of jasper. Twined about the metallic construct, woven neatly throughout the composition of the building, several chestnut trees rear out into the sky. And everywhere you look, the symbol of the eagle can be found - fanning wings, hooked beak, outspread talons - carved into the walls, in the form of simple ornaments mounted on ledges and peaks.

Surprisingly gentle, we say, because Anbaki is the avatar of justice. And they might be able to explain those symbols mounted on all those doors, too...

OOC || FORM
Pay careful attention to the questions we ask in the following form. These each have everything to do with what areas in which you, personally want to develop your character. Your wonderful responses will be used in the same manner as they were for Umui. As with the results provided throughout May, these are not absolute, though we do ask that you speak with us first if you'd like to change your results! You need not answer every question - but just like on Umui, the more information we have, the better!

Character/Username: Prompto
Prior to coming to LifeAftr, what is an aspect of your character that they struggled with - be it a shortcoming, a fear, a bad habit, or eccentricity? Because he grew up mostly neglected and without friends, he had a massive fear of being unwanted or left behind by his friends.
What do they struggle with now? Is it the same as the above? It's mostly the same. He struggles with his self-confidence.
What personal demons, specifically, haunt your character from canon or from past game experiences? Finding out that he was a clone troubles him deeply. From being the 'son' or clone of creepy science man, to finding out that they had been killing remnants of his other clones, to wondering if he was even human. He has covered up his bar code with a tattoo in Lifeaftr, but he still worries.
What is the type of person your character hopes to become? Someone more like Gladio. Confident and strong and good at talking to people.
What is the type of person you hope your character will become? A confident boy who is happy with himself.
Do any of the Seven Deadly Sins or Virtues stand out as applicable to your character? Why? Gluttony. As a child he struggled with his weight, and even in the game Iggy 'scolds' him when he wants to eat junk food. Because he often was probably buying take-out, he tends to like that sort of unhealthy food, and he struggled for a long time getting in shape.
Envy perhaps to a smaller extent, because he quite looks up to some of the guys. However, there's no real bitterness behind him wanting to be more like them.
Lust maybe to a small extent. While he clearly is interested and goes out of his way to woo girls, he's actually quite scared of being successful. Noctis has even noted that he never actually gets anywhere with it.
(Missed the virtues!)
Kindness. He's a very kind person.
Patience. He's not really the angry type. It takes a lot to set him off, and usually has to do with hurting his friends or others.
Humility. He outright says that he's a pleb or that he's not that important when he's bowed to. Tied in the his low self-confidence, he also just has a meek personality naturally, hidden under a boisterous front.

Character/Username: The Knight/
Prior to coming to LifeAftr, what is an aspect of your character that they struggled with - be it a shortcoming, a fear, a bad habit, or eccentricity?
Their biggest one is overburdening themselves - they feel responsible, and thus guilty, for things they couldn't prevent or change. They're very willing to just take on EVERYTHING regardless of how they feel about it. They've been alone so long that this is kind of just how they function now and it's what they default to.
What do they struggle with now? Is it the same as the above?
Definitely linked to the above - they tend to repress their own feelings to get things done and just never really unpack it again because they never find the mental space or time to sort it out, and they don't know how to express it, so it just gets tangled up into a mess. This tendency to push away their own feelings often leads to a difficulty to understand other people's, which can also frustrate them, which they feel guilty for because it's their fault and not other people's, so they push it down...so...vicious cycle.
What personal demons, specifically, haunt your character from canon or from past game experiences?
SURVIVOR'S GUILT. They've outlived a lot of bugs and have in some cases been the one to put them down in the first place and they focus more on who they couldn't save rather than who they managed to a lot of the time because they are a sad child. They deal with this better on some days than others, but there's always that persistent hovering question of "why only me and why couldn't i save others".
What is the type of person your character hopes to become?
Someone who can protect and guard people from danger, but also understand them in order to help them better.
What is the type of person you hope your character will become?
Uh.
Happy and more at peace with themselves, mostly......
Do any of the Seven Deadly Sins or Virtues stand out as applicable to your character? Why?
Wrath for sins, because the Knight has a lot of anger and vengeance to work out and can sort of just channel it into MURDERVIOLENCE if they need to (and it's sort of warped their mindset a little due to SURVIVE AT ALL COSTS).
Charity and Kindness for virtues, because despite aforementioned tendency for vengeance and anger they're a caring child who would drop everything at a moment's notice to go and help someone and is basically always ready to step in to help others. Patience and Diligence are also standouts because they are persistent and hardworking at basically all times. No shortcuts, just Do The Thing Properly.

Character/Username: Lance,
Prior to coming to LifeAftr, what is an aspect of your character that they struggled with - be it a shortcoming, a fear, a bad habit, or eccentricity? Lance is marked by insecurity - a tendency to view others as better than him and seeing himself as lesser than everyone else he knows. There’s also a tendency to pit himself to be better than other people because of this insecurity.
What do they struggle with now? Is it the same as the above? Guilt is a huge part of him right now - he blames himself for several things, including disappearing from the island and Shiro’s death.
What personal demons, specifically, haunt your character from canon or from past game experiences? Lance is haunted by his failures and shortcomings - he failed Shiro, nearly failed his sister and his team, and failed everyone on the island by leaving them again when they needed him. He holds onto these things despite them, and he blames himself for not being good enough. Also, he’s been in an active war for over a year and has seen some shit.
What is the type of person your character hopes to become? He wants to be someone other people can be proud of - he states that he’s motivated to become a “better person”, but it’s unclear what that means. He wants to be strong and capable and dependable and have people rely on them. Basically, he wants to be a hero.
What is the type of person you hope your character will become? Someone who’s confident and proud of himself, who spends less time focusing on his shortcomings or exaggerating his good parts. Someone who’s honest, above all else. And also like, happy.
Do any of the Seven Deadly Sins or Virtues stand out as applicable to your character? Why? Pride - Lance is incredibly vain and self-centered at moments, and he can be downright rude and antagonistic because of his pride. He’s competitive and driven and snippy because he compares himself to others and wants to be better than them.
For a virtue, it would probably be Kindness. For all of his vanity and ego, he cares deeply about people and wants to do whatever he can to help them. He wants to help people from the bottom of his heart and be friends with everyone he can manage. He's a good boy, Brent.

Character/Username: Mira |
Prior to coming to LifeAftr, what is an aspect of your character that they struggled with - be it a shortcoming, a fear, a bad habit, or eccentricity? Prior to arriving here, she was extremely wary of getting close to people. Considering the state of her world--in which it sees her and others with powers as a threat to be eradicated--and her power of empathy (which allowed her to feel, intimately, when people were uncomfortable around her), she was exceedingly terrified of getting close to people. She didn't forge many strong, genuine bonds; she can count the number of friends she has back home on one hand.
What do they struggle with now? Is it the same as the above? Not so much, since people accept her here and seem to like her. She's still somewhat unsure about reaching out to people, but her biggest fear is dying. She isn't sure what will be taken from her if she dies again, after all; it haunts her fairly regularly.
What personal demons, specifically, haunt your character from canon or from past game experiences? Hoo boy. Definitely her dying, and watching Lance die. Also knowing that people can disappear, at any time, without warning, frightens her; she's gotten in the habit of checking to make sure that the people she cares about here are, well. Still here.
What is the type of person your character hopes to become? Someone who can protect not only herself, but other people. She feels incredibly powerless to help with things like fights, and after Umui, her feelings of inadequacy have been heightened considerably. Mira knows she's physically weak, and she knows she can't protect herself. She wants to be able to take care of herself when she's in a tight spot, instead of relying on others.
What is the type of person you hope your character will become? Someone who is a lot more open with her feelings. For someone with the power to feel others' feelings, she's shockingly inept at taking care of and acknowledging her own! I want her to be able to be open about any feelings she might have that might be difficult to wrestle with. As it is, more often than not, when she has more complicated feelings, she just... pushes them down and ignores them. She internalizes a lot, and it's incredibly unhealthy. I want her to be able to deal with them in far more constructive ways. I also really want her to stop apologizing for things that aren't her fault.
Finally, I just want her to be happy. pls.
Do any of the Seven Deadly Sins or Virtues stand out as applicable to your character? Why? Full stop, it's patience. Mira is incredibly patient with pretty much everyone! There are, of course, exceptions, but she easily accepts the problems of those around her, if they decide to confide in her, without resorting to anger or annoyance. She's also very kind; she extends the sort of kindness she'd want to get in return to those around her. She's willing to help people who need help, especially if she can provide it.
However, she's also envious. She and her parents grew apart when she was just in high school, which resulted in her and her brother moving out. She envies those who maintain a good relationship with their parents. Similarly, she envies those who are better able to protect themselves and those around her.

Character/Username: Ann Takamaki
Prior to coming to LifeAftr, what is an aspect of your character that they struggled with - be it a shortcoming, a fear, a bad habit, or eccentricity? I'm going with something eccentric and saying that Ann had a pretty bad diet, and would sometimes skip normal meals in favor of eating desserts. Just desserts.
What do they struggle with now? Is it the same as the above? Honestly? Desserts are such a small grievance compared to what Ann's going through right now. Missing home, feeling nostalgic. She also fears for what else this island is going to throw at them, ever since the Shiho event. Ann feels lost without the other Phantom Thieves, especially Akira.
What personal demons, specifically, haunt your character from canon or from past game experiences? Fear of loneliness. A small part of herself still harbors some guilt from what happened with Shiho, too.
What is the type of person your character hopes to become? A supermodel; someone who can go out in the world and do great things. Someone who can stay true to her sense of justice and make her friends proud.
What is the type of person you hope your character will become? Same as the above! With the addition of: someone who's more confident to act on her own, too, since Akira and the others aren't around.
Do any of the Seven Deadly Sins or Virtues stand out as applicable to your character? Why?
Gluttony: Desserts, man. She just can't get enough.
Sloth: Sometimes Ann gets real lazy and doesn't feel like working hard.
Wrath: The only reason why Ann chooses to spare Kaomoshida in-game is because she thinks sparing him will be a more horrible fate for him than death. She can get pretty aggressive if you're a shitstain.
Kindness: Very much so! Ann is the kind of person who wants to help people who are in need, whenever she can.
Justice (if this counts): Time to present my dissertation on how Ann's got a strong sense of justice--I'm kidding, but really. She has a strong moral compass and will fight against the law for what's right.

Chara
cter/Username: =)Prior to coming to LifeAftr, what is an aspect of your character that they struggled with - be it a shortcoming, a fear, a bad habit, or eccentricity?
What didn't they got damn struggle with? Probably the biggest thing overall is a lack of forgiveness- they've been pushed past the tipping point of what they will and won't allow, so near everything to them is an indication of how undeserving people are, humans and monsters alike.
What do they struggle with now? Is it the same as the above?
Surprisingly, this has...changed, a little. They're a lot more accepting of people's shortcomings, but their major struggle now is- trust. Trusting people to be near them, to touch them, to not have ulterior motives; Chara may always be a very reserved person, but they still really don't engage with a lot of people.
What personal demons, specifically, haunt your character from canon or from past game experiences?
Again, what- doesn't lmfao. They don't regret what they've done, but the actions that led to their retaliation still eat at them a lot- the consequences of ERASING themself in their previous game also eats at them, since it's a pretty heavy contradiction to how they usually approach things.
What is the type of person your character hopes to become?
They don't.
What is the type of person you hope your character will become?
Happy. Capable of being with a group of people and acknowledging those people as friends, or family, or just- important, without having to pull teeth and be in serious duress to do so. A person who's let go of their past- or at least, some of it.
Do any of the Seven Deadly Sins or Virtues stand out as applicable to your character? Why?
Wrath is absolutely the strongest. Most of their canon motivations and their time in Sol Raveh revolved around a constant element of being incapable of forgiving others and themselves, to the extent where they will reach for reasons to classify others as bad or manipulative. Ironically, this also brings about this strong element of pride- they feel like they see the world for what it is when a lot of people cannot.
On the opposing scale, they're a fiercely loyal person; the people they have deemed worthy or important they are endlessly there for and will go out of their way to keep happy and safe.

Character/Username: Nari Nishitani
Prior to coming to LifeAftr, what is an aspect of your character that they struggled with - be it a shortcoming, a fear, a bad habit, or eccentricity? Due to what happened in the murdergame she was in, Nari is more afraid of being abandoned than anything. She used to fear getting close to others, and now she's terrified everyone she loves will leave her.
What do they struggle with now? Is it the same as the above? Same as above, plus being afraid she'll kill someone with her powers on accident again.
What personal demons, specifically, haunt your character from canon or from past game experiences? The dead she couldn't save, and not being allowed to be executed like she was supposed to be. Basically she feels guilty she got away with murder.
What is the type of person your character hopes to become? Someone who is truly worthy of the title Champion Dragon since she feels that she let that title down by murdering one of her closest friends.
What is the type of person you hope your character will become? Someone a little less abrasive towards others, and/or someone who can accept that there's those who will want to keep her alive no matter how many mistakes she makes.
Do any of the Seven Deadly Sins or Virtues stand out as applicable to your character? Why? Pride as a sin. She is very overly proud of what she can do, and will brag about it. She will also put others down who she thinks are beneath her when it comes to things she takes pride in.
Wrath as another sin. This girl has a temper problem and takes offense to a lot of things. She appears patient, but will give into anger at a moment's notice.
Charity as a virtue. She gives and gives without expecting return because she wholeheartedly believes that everyone is deserving help, and will go out of her way to help those who need it.

Character/Username: Legion
Prior to coming to LifeAftr, what is an aspect of your character that they struggled with - be it a shortcoming, a fear, a bad habit, or eccentricity? Articulating their feelings is kind of problem.
What do they struggle with now? Is it the same as the above? Basically the same, though they're also discovering that they might be better at it than some others.
What personal demons, specifically, haunt your character from canon or from past game experiences? Legion kind of sees everything as their fault, at least to a degree. A part of them feels like of all the Geth, as the one who basically started the war, they were the one least deserving of surviving it.
And yet here they are. They are glad to be alive, but they'd have preferred that it be the rest of the Geth who were spared.
They are a sad, tired robot.
What is the type of person your character hopes to become? They don't precisely want to change who they are they'd just like to not fuck things up.
What is the type of person you hope your character will become? Honestly I'd like them to be a little better at articulating themselves. Maybe a bit less passive.
Do any of the Seven Deadly Sins or Virtues stand out as applicable to your character? Why? Legion is definitely more of a virtues sort.
Patience: Tali pointed a gun on them and they commented on how understandable her motives were. People throw racist insults at them, they don't get mad. Someone commented on using one of their people's body parts as a decoration, and they merely said that that wasn't the intended function. In lifeaftr they put up with Shepard even though in their timeline she betrayed them and let their people die. Need I go on?
Dilligence: Geth as a whole prefer to work toward things rather than be awarded them immediately.
Temperance: Admittedly, this may not be as much of a virtue as the others because it's really easy for Legion to restrain themselves, but they do pretty good when it comes to restraining themselves.
The only sin I can imagine them really embodying is wrath -- they're very angry about the poor treatment their people (and other synthetics) have received.

Character/Username:
Prior to coming to LifeAftr, what is an aspect of your character that they struggled with - be it a shortcoming, a fear, a bad habit, or eccentricity? The idea that she is important and her sickness doesn't define her as someone less valuable than others.
What do they struggle with now? Is it the same as the above? Still a big struggle on her part, but she's starting to lowkey think about it? Tackle it? Whatever, it's rough.
What personal demons, specifically, haunt your character from canon or from past game experiences? Instead of running away, she went along with a plan that could hurt and/or kill remaining survivors/herself because she was too scared to stand up to someone that scared her. She asked a boy to help her, but if that 1 in a million chance meeting hadn't happened W E L L.
What is the type of person your character hopes to become? She doesn't think she'll live long enough to become anything S O.
What is the type of person you hope your character will become? A strong, brave person who can take up for herself and others, sometime who doesn't let her illness define her, has more self-esteem, etc.
Do any of the Seven Deadly Sins or Virtues stand out as applicable to your character? Why?
Greed-she loves treasure and hoarding. Call her the hell out. Envy in a smaller vein, since she bounces back and force with accepting that things are how they are, but she really, really wishes she could live/be like the strong people she admires.
Kindness since she would die for anyone that smiles at her, essentially. She'll go out of her way to help people or hide them or watch them-whatever they need. Charity on the hilarious flipside to greed, because for all her thieving raccoon ways, she's an extremely generous person who puts others before herself 150% of the time.

Character/Username: Tim Wright (
Prior to coming to LifeAftr, what is an aspect of your character that they struggled with - be it a shortcoming, a fear, a bad habit, or eccentricity? HOO BOY. Well he was deeply paranoid, prone to deception, coldly condescending, and predisposed to keep people at an arm's length, and some of that is still there. One of the most notable aspects of Tim that continues to follow him is that he's a liar, both to himself and to others. He throws up a million barriers, frequently undercuts and dehumanizes himself, and shrinks away from divulging too much of his history. The only people he really talks freely about that shit with are the people who've literally seen his soul and related parties, and even then he doesn't really talk about it. He doesn't want to acknowledge himself as someone who's worthy of compassion or even permanence, because his own self-loathing is also such a huge barrier. Self-blame is another massive thing for him; he defaults toward anger and trying to push blame on others as a knee-jerk reaction, but inevitably will find a way to blame himself for essentially anything. This inevitably prompts a downward spiral of self-pity, which he's learned to grow out of a little? Or at least he keeps it where no one can see it lol.
What do they struggle with now? Is it the same as the above? His history and refusal to disclose it is one of the biggest barriers right now. He's managed to get close to people, but the only times he actually addresses his history (as a kid who grew up alone in a hospital, as someone who was the Operator's pawn, etc.) is when he literally has no other choice and people are kind of forced to see it for themselves in events and memory shares and the like. Using that as proof that he's inherently dangerous and should be avoided is usually the subsequent instinct - avoid, avoid, avoid, and if he has to act exceptionally cruel to make that happen, he will. So deception, particularly self-deception, is a big one. It's notable that he doesn't really have an accurate picture of himself; he embraces all the negative shit and completely ignores the positive.
What personal demons, specifically, haunt your character from canon or from past game experiences? THE OPERATOR, OBVS. That's the biggest one. He also hasn't really confronted how he feels about the people he left behind - Jay, Alex, Brian, etc. A lingering fear of Sans Undertale from Sol Raveh. The masked man's influence on Tim's life as well; he super doesn't acknowledge them at all if he can help it, and this is an unhealthy level of repression.
What is the type of person your character hopes to become? This is a small point of internal conflict for him. On one hand, he'd rather he didn't really have to exist? On the other, there are too many people he wants to be better for (Chara, Ren, Chip, Frisk, basically every scrap of positive CR he's made since coming here) and for the first time in his life it...it doesn't feel attainable, per se, but he wants to be better. But he also assumes this is motivated by guilt and obligation instead of genuine affection (spoilers it's mostly the latter) so that's something he's gotta work on lol
What is the type of person you hope your character will become? To say "happy" would be a cop-out, because he's anhedonic and that is kind of an uphill battle lmao. But I would like him to eventually embrace the idea of found family with the people he loves. He's literally never had something like that in his life before, and his inability to really recognize it is one of the reasons he hasn't come to think of it as such.
Do any of the Seven Deadly Sins stand out as applicable to your character? Why?
Do any of the Seven Virtues stand out as applicable to your character? Why?
There's also a weird...PRIDE/HUMILITY thing, where Tim is on one hand kind of prone to being snippy and condescending, but he's also super prone to sacrifice and bravery, even if he doesn't really recognize it? Does it count as "humility" when he just kind...regards himself as collateral a little too easily and routinely dismisses his self-worth?? idk. So you can do with that as you will.

Re: OOC || FORM
Character/Username: Jules Dagger Samari / suspecteverything
Prior to coming to LifeAftr, what is an aspect of your character that they struggled with - be it a shortcoming, a fear, a bad habit, or eccentricity? The general fact that he's hated by everyone. Regardless of what he does, everyone's view of him was already tainted and they saw what they wanted to see: that he was a useless drug addict who couldn't take care of himself and only cared about using people when he cared at all.
What do they struggle with now? Is it the same as the above? Generally the same as above. He's always been judged before people know him, so he has very little belief that anyone will truly see him. It's also tainted his self-esteem and he's taken on the role of asshole as a way to cope
What personal demons, specifically, haunt your character from canon or from past game experiences? What he did to his brother when they were in school together seriously haunts him. While everything was a misguided attempt to protect Nykyrian, he still caused his sibling pain. He later turned Nyk's lover over to a killer. That was also without realizing the guy was crazy and would actually hurt Nyk's lover, but again, damage was done. It's worse that Nykyrian is the only one who had never hurt Jules before Jules struck back.
What is the type of person your character hopes to become? Someone his wife can be proud of. To him it's an unreachable goal, though really Ushara is already proud of him.
What is the type of person you hope your character will become? Someone who is a little more trusting of people. Suspicion runs deep.
Do any of the Seven Deadly Sins or Virtues stand out as applicable to your character? Why? Wrath: Jules has a very short temper. He's seriously quick to anger and uses anger as a defense mechanism. If he can make people mad at him for a real reason, it's much easier to cope with than people being mad at him for something he didn't do or that isn't true about him.
Envy: There's a little bit of envy in Jules simply for the fact that he knows what a good family is supposed to be like and he's never had that. He's turned his envy more into beating himself up more than allowing it to grow as envy however.
Humility: Everyone in Jules' canon would say he has a issue with pride, but the truth is he's exceedingly humble. Jules doesn't ask for much, lives on very little, and tries to keep under the radar with his skills. Even in life aftr he's been doing anonymous good deeds to help people out.

Character/Username: Pyrrha Nikos
Prior to coming to LifeAftr, what is an aspect of your character that they struggled with - be it a shortcoming, a fear, a bad habit, or eccentricity? Pyrrha's biggest problem was that she would always put others before herself, becoming essentially a doormat to the wills of others out of a desire to be helpful and good.
What do they struggle with now? Is it the same as the above? Not really. By now, she's developed to where she knows that her own opinion and health matter more then constantly being a "yes-woman". But right now, she's struggling with the direction she really wants to take in life, and if that means never going home.
What personal demons, specifically, haunt your character from canon or from past game experiences? Accidentally killing someone who was secretly a robot still haunts her to a minor degree. Moreover, seeing her friends and "family" dying every week and being on the run for a year still gives her nightmares and a wee bit of survivor's guilt.
What is the type of person your character hopes to become? A hero who helps people, whether it's by being a warrior strong enough to protect everyone, or just a really good friend.
What is the type of person you hope your character will become? A good girl who grows up healthy, happy, and honest with herself and others.
Do any of the Seven Deadly Sins or Virtues stand out as applicable to your character? Why? In a sense? Gluttony is one of her sins. Back in her homeworld, Pyrrha took on way more responsibility than she could chew, and would take on even more if it would fulfill her goals of becoming a hero of the people. It's only when she begins to feel the strain of taking on too much that she breaks down.
Ironically, for wanting to be a hero, she's very humble. Humility is definitely one of her virtues. She's brave and exceedingly modest when it comes to talking about her achievements. She'll downplay them to such a degree because she doesn't want to be put on a pedestal.
One more virtue of hers is kindness. Which is pretty self-describing.

Character/Username: Keith Kogane
Prior to coming to LifeAftr, what is an aspect of your character that they struggled with - be it a shortcoming, a fear, a bad habit, or eccentricity?
Keith’s original canon point was a time where Keith didn’t know where he belonged. He’d thought he felt right with Voltron then they’d discovered he has Galra blood in his veins. Worse yet, Shiro had vanished and his team all dogpiled on him for every mistake. His own temper was an enemy. Add grief to that and when Shiro came back and kept stepping all over him too…how could he really feel he belonged with Voltron?
Yet when he went to the Blades, he didn’t belong there either. They are willing to sacrifice their own if they lag behind. Keith’s heart wouldn’t let him. That’s not how he’s wired. He’d nearly self-destructed in his own bid to be in a sense, doing his duty. His life meant little in the scheme of protecting the universe.
Post update, Keith has found where he belongs and he’s ready to lead the team. Most of his baggage has been put to rest. But the guilt of leaving the team in the first place is rooted inside.
What do they struggle with now? Is it the same as the above? In a word, partly. The guilt is something he endures. He failed the team once. Failed them in-game by circumstances beyond his control but they all still died. He failed Rapsho. It doesn’t matter they were too far gone. He can rationalize it needed to be done but, Rapsho’s words make it difficult to let go of that guilt. He failed Shiro. Shiro keeps vanishing and originally Shiro had to share his own pain to break him out of a dream. Failure and guilt haunt his every step. He can keep moving forward but…yeah.
What personal demons, specifically, haunt your character from canon or from past game experiences? Rapsho. The whole thing. Shiro, see above his vanishing. Pidge, she died alone. Lance, he died in front of him. The sleeping dead kids in the Standing Water.
What is the type of person your character hopes to become?
He wants to be strong and honorable, two things he already is. More importantly, he wants to do right by his team this go around. By following his heart and keeping them as safe as he can this time. He wants to be worthy of them and all that they are. A Black Paladin. A leader. Their friend.
What is the type of person you hope your character will become?
I want him to be someone who while he will have things like guilt and pain to work through. He’ll actually sit down and deal with it. I feel with the right nudges he will and can. Keith’s focus has always been so outward with less regard for himself. I’d like him to at least take care of his own emotional needs.
Do any of the Seven Deadly Sins or Virtues stand out as applicable to your character? Why?
Wrath - For much of his life Keith was ruled by his emotions. He was cast aside and discarded when he couldn’t control them. It built an anger inside him that had been sparked by the lack of a mother in his life. Galra emotions run higher an more intense than most people. That anger turned inward but became an explosive bomb. These days it’s more like a berserker side of himself he can tap but it is still there.
Love -
The opposing side of the coin that is Keith is his love. He will launch himself into the fray to protect others and shield them. In the Blades of Marmora, a group of assassins and scouts, one must think of the mission first. He can’t do it. Repeatedly Keith breaks their rules for the sake of saving lives. While his loyalty is extremely steadfast it is his love for people he cares about that drives him to be a better person. It was kindness that turned him around and he gives it back in his own quiet way ever since.
For those, he loves he will fight even death itself. There is no fight too hard for their sake. His love is dangerous, a fierce thing that shines in the darkness. But it is the source of his strength.
Together this wrath and love merge into the storm at sea that is the core of Keith Kogane.

Character/Username: Edward Elric
Prior to coming to LifeAftr, what is an aspect of your character that they struggled with - be it a shortcoming, a fear, a bad habit, or eccentricity? Mistrust. Ed had been deeply affected by his time in Ryslig and, while he did not actively hate humans as a whole, he still held them all at an arm's length. He internalized the 'monsters and humans can't co-exist' idea so much that he can't really even begin to confront it. This ties into his previous feelings of isolation in Germany (surrounded by people that are visually the same but internally almost entirely alien) and his co-dependency with Al (feeling like only the two of them truly understood each other), emotions and mental states which bled into this current issue and make it even more of a tangled mess. Let this boy realize his inhumanity doesn't make him any lesser than others 2k18?????
What do they struggle with now? Is it the same as the above? Ed still struggles with his mistrust and isolation, though the suspension of his cannibalistic needs and the lack of a big monster community to hide within has meant he's been more willing to open up. But this still mostly extends to a few very select individuals, and for the most part he has kept to himself on a personal level despite diong what he can to contribute to the community.
What personal demons, specifically, haunt your character from canon or from past game experiences? Aside from the obvious 'I had to eat people for nearly a year so that I wouldn't kill and eat even MORE people', he is still dealing with massive amiounts of guilt from the events of canon. He's left a lot of things worse for having been around them, even if a lot of it wasn't directly his fault (or he couldn't have reasonably been expected to know and do anything about it), but the biggest is definitely that he hurt his brother because of his own hubris. That's...not really something he'll ever get over entirely.
What is the type of person your character hopes to become? Dead, probably.
...okay, but in seriousness, Ed doesn't have a whole lot of hopes for himself changing in any fundamental ways. It feels like more effort than it's worth, essentially.
What is the type of person you hope your character will become?
I dunno, a character that actually gains CR?I'd like to see him move past the internalized bullshit that he learned in Ryslig, and maybe get a bit of hope back into him. As it stands Ed is very much trapped in his pre-CoS duldrums--hopeless, bitter, unable to imagine any real kind of future any longer and just going through the motions of life.Do any of the Seven Deadly Sins or Virtues stand out as applicable to your character? Why? Pride has always been a cardinal flaw of Edward's. His pride is what keeps him believing that he can handle all the problems he's confronted with on his own, that he can't/shouldn't have to reach out to others for help, prevents him from evaluating his prejudices and assumptions without being taken to the head with a clue-by-four...basically he has a lot of trouble admitting he's wrong and will go to great internal lengths to justify things to himself. Ironically this doesn't extent to him thinking he is better than others on a fundamental level, but he is perfectly capable of being tripped up by not recognizing when he is being hypocritical. On the positive side of things, Edward is a fiercely loyal person and very often goes out of his way to help others around him. Despite being dragged down and broken in a lot of ways by cynicism, he still has a tiny hint of idealism in him that wants to see things turn out right.

Character/Username: Foster van Denend
Prior to coming to LifeAftr, what is an aspect of your character that they struggled with - be it a shortcoming, a fear, a bad habit, or eccentricity? Disconnection/detachment--most infamously from reality, but also from other people, and from himself. Foster struggles immensely with feeling connected to events in a personal (and non delusional) way, and most of the time he's honestly only engaged when his delusions and other people's realities intersect. But it's not just a psychosis thing--most people with psychosis can feel, and feel quite strongly, about other people or their circumstances or just... in general. Foster? Not so much. There's a concept called emotional connectivity, and it's... what it sounds like. Foster's feeling exactly nothing at pretty much all times--and it's not just his connectivity to other people, but also to himself. He's massively disconnected from his own experiences, and he doesn't trust his own perceptions, so nothing can faze him, but nothing motivates him or matters to him, either.
What do they struggle with now? Is it the same as the above? Yes, although he'd actually made a great deal of progress in Lost Carnival... but has now backslid massively, reverting to his trademark conflict-escalating behaviour and self-isolation. The issue from the last question is still a problem. Like, a huge problem. It's one of those things that could be beneficial in moderation--like, if he has the motivation to be remotely useful, Foster is actually INCREDIBLY reliable in what others would consider a crisis because he's not feeling that crisis at all. But Foster not only perceives himself as extremely outside the reality of other people, he's been pre-emptively disconnected from them, so...
What personal demons, specifically, haunt your character from canon or from past game experiences? The different Foster who existed in Portland, who had a sister he fucking cared about and like, a life and friendships and... a sense of humour that made sense, and not a terminal illness that was progressively eating his brain mass. That Foster attempted to force an end to the ritual that would have returned them to reality, and then attempted to die rather than return to the Foster that... is... and the whole affair left him hurting deeply in a way he's normally immune to and it's still an open wound.
What is the type of person your character hopes to become? Foster's hopes and dreams (sorry) are all tied up in his psychosis-landscape brand of 'coping'--truthfully, outside of realising his delusional dreams of dying on purpose, the only way to 'fix' Foster van Denend (according to Foster van Denend) is for him to never have existed in the first place. He'd have to be a different person--literally. He has no ability to picture himself in the future. It's an actively repulsive effort, he doesn't WANT to exist in the future.
What is the type of person you hope your character will become? A more connected one, and a more motivated one, with motivations besides... the above. He managed it once before, but it requires him to feel like his actions matter, and that's......
Do any of the Seven Deadly Sins or Virtues stand out as applicable to your character? Why? Wrath, actually, and avarice. As a teenager, Foster ended up self-deprecating in part because of the anger he felt; he hated E V E R Y O N E and while on some level he still does, he understood at the time that this was unfair and irrational. In trying to get over those feelings, though, he mostly ended up turning it into a much bigger two-part issue. One, he could only rationalise away his anger if he was wrong to feel angry... and if he was wrong to feel angry, then a whole lot of other things were ALSO wrong, including why he was angry. Ultimately, he decided he was the problem. That's one. Two, he's actually warped it around so far that he's not "allowed" to feel anger at all, so he reflexively permutates it into something else--
Self loathing is still loathing, though.
(He IS, to clarify, allowed to ACT angry, but he can only manage it if he's not "feeling" angry. He "performs" a lot of emotions because he's attempting to communicate meanings that are conceptually tied to emotional content, but the behavioural and linguistic expression of emotional content is so normalised that it's often impossible to AVOID conveying an emotion, whether or not that feeling is present. Foster learned the "right" way to express himself (by performing emotions) and is unconsciously mirroring that. Like a lot of low empathy/low emotion people, he does so without thinking about it; it makes him feel like a huge liar because he doesn't recognise that as what he's doing or why, like he's some kind of dishonest puppet. Ties right back into detachment/disconnection! Wow!)
TL;DR Foster acts angry a lot when he's not angry and when he IS angry he doesn't express it, so it's really confusing. :I

Prior to coming to LifeAftr, what is an aspect of your character that they struggled with - be it a shortcoming, a fear, a bad habit, or eccentricity?
Sometimes you're just super depressed and have no coping mechanisms because your parents systematically prevented you from developing a healthy understanding of self care while repeatedly arguing about what the best course of action was (which often resulted in no course of action) and that's just how it is on this bitch of an Earth.
What do they struggle with now? Is it the same as the above?
Sometimes, in addition to preventing you from veloping healthy coping mechanisms, your parents systematically trained you to believe everything you do is a) worthless and b) a form of seeking attention. Then three people who are vested in your well-being (which is a 200% increase in people who care about your well-being) have to repeatedly tell you that's not the case for a year and you still kind of think that sounds fake but whatever! It's easy to change if you give it your attention!
What personal demons, specifically, haunt your character from canon or from past game experiences?
Evan Hansen.Sometimes you've been so conditioned to believe nobody cares about you for you and you're so afraid of people leaving you alone that you repress your memory of the only person prior to your arrival on a weird island who ever really wanted to help you because they cared about you. Oh, and also you repeatedly try to ruin your own life and then don't understand why you feel guilty?? About it??? It's your own life, you should be allowed to ruin it however the fuck you want! What is the type of person your character hopes to become?
"Okay." (In both the sense that he's an okay person, but also in the sense that he feels like he's okay.)
What is the type of person you hope your character will become?
Happy. Please let Connor Murphy be happy.
Do any of the Seven Deadly Sins or Virtues stand out as applicable to your character? Why?
Temperance - but not in the sense of it being a virtue. Connor is so incredibly self-restrained that he's like a constant ticking time bomb of emotions. There's a level of temperance that's unhealthy, and Connor basically operates on that level all the time until he impulsively does something that usually turns self-destructive. In the same sense, Envy fits but it's not a "sin," as it were. Connor is incredibly envious of like. Powers and magic and just. The ability some people have to not be constantly fighting their own brain? But that envy only reinforces the idea that he's never going to amount to anything, it doesn't like. Turn terrible?
Realistically, his various brain junk and neuroses also make him an excellent candidate for sloth and he often has a bit of wrath, because he's so tightly wound on the emotions front that's sometimes the only outlet he has for like . . . eight or nine different emotions he didn't develop a coping mechanism for.

Prior to coming to LifeAftr, what is an aspect of your character that they struggled with - be it a shortcoming, a fear, a bad habit, or eccentricity?
[puts face in hands and screams silently] Family can betray you, Damianos.
What do they struggle with now? Is it the same as the above?
He struggles with, uh. Damen's an incredibly good-aligned person, in the D&D sense, so he struggles a lot with gray areas? Like Ai'tuoh, for example. He's not entirely sure that burning it to the ground was the correct choice, but at the same time . . . he's learned that sometimes you do have to burn everything to the ground in order to start over. Moral ambiguities are literally something he's only been dealing with for the past ~year and a half? So he struggles a lot with them.
What personal demons, specifically, haunt your character from canon or from past game experiences?
Uhhhhhhhhhh related to the last answer, boy is there a lot of moral ambiguity in a situation where your fiancé used to own you as a slave and you murdered his brother and your countries used to be mortal enemies and one time he whipped you so badly you almost died. Oh, and he killed your brother. Oh! And he's some kinda witch or some shit you don't really understand and you're pretending it doesn't exist. You know, it's just. It's mess, and Damen did not realize how much of a mess it was until arriving here.
What is the type of person your character hopes to become?
A good king/person. He thought he knew what that meant, but it turns out he didn't so. He's working towards that again.
What is the type of person you hope your character will become?
This is going to sound so horrible to anyone who hasn't heard me talk about Damen before but please let Damen become distrustful. Please. Please let him not just look at everyone and assume they're a good person. That's not friend-shaped, Damen, that's the anti-christ.
Do any of the Seven Deadly Sins or Virtues stand out as applicable to your character? Why?
Uh, well. The obvious answer is patience, especially given that it has secondary shades of forgiveness and mercy? But essentially Damen is incredibly resilient and endures through a lot of shit even though it kind of just keeps getting worse? In the same vein, his personality lends itself to dilegence. He's super hard working, even when he's not necesscarily sure what he's doing, and once he decides he's doing something, he does it with a dogged determination.
On the flip side, however, you have pride. Damen doesn't tend to have the arrogance that generally goes along with pride, but boy does he ever have a dangerous amount of overconfidence that everything will work out fine. (It doesn't matter that it always does. That's Laurent's work.) Also he's a giant fucking man whore, so we can throw lust on the pile too.

Character/Username: The Hollow Knight
Prior to coming to LifeAftr, what is an aspect of your character that they struggled with - be it a shortcoming, a fear, a bad habit, or eccentricity?
Resignation. Their life was determined by the Pale King and by the purpose which they were made for, and they have not once considered things don't have to be that way. They're too accepting.
What do they struggle with now? Is it the same as the above?
Being an actual person, recognizing that they're allowed to have a life outside their own purpose. Basically just... the influence the Pale King had on them. As well as some serious trauma from containing the Radiance and her infection. Being loved and having that love then taken away, framed as wrong, did a real number on them. But they're. They're fine.
What personal demons, specifically, haunt your character from canon or from past game experiences?
Their failure. The fact that they couldn't contain the infection, the fact that they broke, still haunts them a lot. AND UH... UH THAT TIME THEY KINDA STABBED THEIR SIBLING, HERE? Yeah. Yeah, that's... sticking with them. A bunch. Just makes them feel like even more of a feeling, NO BIGGIE.
What is the type of person your character hopes to become?
Bold of you to assume they consider themselves a person at all OR have like, any hope in that area.
What is the type of person you hope your character will become?
A happy one.
Do any of the Seven Deadly Sins or Virtues stand out as applicable to your character? Why?
Sloth, for a sin, which is the only one that really fits and... yeah. It isn't so much laziness, of course not, but an acceptance of the status quo. They have no real drive, merely accepting what others have decided.
For virtue... potentially Temperance, but how much this is their own choice is... debatable. It was more, uh... forced on them. Still, right now, it suits them okay. They restrain themselves a lot. Their entire life has been dedicated to that. Self control is the name of the game...

Character/Username: The Drifter (
Prior to coming to LifeAftr, what is an aspect of your character that they struggled with - be it a shortcoming, a fear, a bad habit, or eccentricity? Isolation was a very big part of the Drifter's life. When the Guardian offered them kindness, it was pretty unprecedented. As a result, they're still...hung up on that, essentially? They try to boil down acts of kindness to a debt they can repay, because they never know how long they or others might last; they don't someone to die without knowing what that meant to them, basically. Besides that, the Drifter is also prone to charging Right The Fuck In without any backup plan. Their means of problem-solving essentially boils down to "cut the thing to pieces until it stops moving," and when they have to solve a problem in literally any other way, they struggle. This has gotten to be a little less since Umui forced them to Talk About Their Dang Problems, but it's still there.
What do they struggle with now? Is it the same as the above? It's a combination! The Drifter is very bad at asking for help, and still doesn't believe they're necessarily...worthy of kindness? It's a waste, as far as they're concerned, for anyone to devote resources or time to them, since they're Dying. They still kind of rush into things, and they're really, really not comfortable just sitting alone with their own thoughts. They prefer Action to the exclusion of all else, even when it doesn't make sense. They still try to reduce acts of compassion to a system they can balance out. Admitting they've gotten attached to people was a super difficult thing for them to do, because drifters aren't supposed to get attached, but they have no idea how to Stop.
What personal demons, specifically, haunt your character from canon or from past game experiences? Judgment is the biggest one. The Immortal Cell still stalks their nightmares, and they're haunted by the possibility that their sacrifice ultimately meant nothing at all. They also still dwell on the Jackal, the god that guided them and helped them by reviving them after death and pointing the way to Judgment. And, ofc, the Guardian (
What is the type of person your character hopes to become? They...want to live? That's basically their only criteria. They Want To Live Fam.
What is the type of person you hope your character will become? Someone who isn't afraid to ask for help, for one. Someone who can acknowledge their value outside of what they can physically Do for someone else. Someone who can acknowledge and actively maintain the attachments they've made outside of tracking a made-up statistic of "debt" and repayment. Someone who can conceptualize who and what they are outside of the illness that's more or less defined their existence and their motivations.

Character/Username: Agent Washington (
Prior to coming to LifeAftr, what is an aspect of your character that they struggled with - be it a shortcoming, a fear, a bad habit, or eccentricity? BOY WHAT HASN'T HE. Guilt. Self-destruction. Paranoia. Internalized rage. PTSD. He has a Lot that he's lived with over the years. His sense of justice and accountability feeds into his desire for vengeance and preexisting anger issues, as well as a general inability or flat-out refusal to forgive himself as a result. A fraying of his sense of self due to how many memories have been thrown into his head and utterly skullfucked him. While he's better than he was, he also tends to assume the worst of people; betrayal is an inevitability and an expectation, not a possibility.
What do they struggle with now? Is it the same as the above? LifeAftr has exacerbated Wash's feeling of vulnerability in regards to his psychological health. While his road to recovery has been far from a straight line, the effect of recent events have plunged him into self-doubt regarding his sanity. After October's event, he's tripped straight into the pitfalls of "oh ha ha Guess I'm Going Crazy Again!!!" which has intensified preexisting feelings of loss of self-identity. This has also exacerbated his trust issues, paranoia, and ongoing struggles with PTSD.
What personal demons, specifically, haunt your character from canon or from past game experiences? Epsilon is the biggest one - memories of Churches, plural, still fuck him up on the daily, as well as the sensation of Epsilon self-destructing innnnn his head. As of last month, he's also dealing with guilt over Maine and CT, and an inability to save either of them. With CT especially, his failure there has renewed feelings of always being "the guy who went crazy" - his word might never be worth trusting, because who's to say he's completely compos mentis?
What is the type of person your character hopes to become? Someone who can fill the gaps in the lives of others until such a time that he's no longer needed. Wash views himself as a stopgap measure in a lot of respects, essentially. He's the leader of Blue Team until Tucker can step up to the plate. He's a replacement friend for Caboose until he can get over his codependency. That, for now, is good enough, and "good enough" is the best he's had in a long time so he's not going to wish for anything more.
What is the type of person you hope your character will become? A little more predisposed to think charitably of people? He defaults to distrust and holding people at arm's length so fucking often that it gets in the way of his capacity to actually be of much use in a ton of situations. Also being able to define himself outside the scope of what's happened to him - so much of Wash's method of self-identifying revolves around what was done to him and the shitty things he's done as opposed to the good he's certainly done and been capable of doing, time and time again. Someone a little less prone to default to self-destruction and viewing himself as collateral.

Prior to coming to LifeAftr, what is an aspect of your character that they struggled with - be it a shortcoming, a fear, a bad habit, or eccentricity?
So the obvious one is his rage. When certain people he cares about are in danger he enters what is essentially a berserk state losing control. In general Shion is not great at understanding or controlling his emotions and it is something he struggles with.
The other is the fact of his own privileged. On leaving No.6 he realised that he had lived a life of luxury whilst others starved. Especially those who have lived difficult lives. They deserve all the things and he deserves none of the things because he spent his whole life having so much and nothing he does can actually make up for that. This is all muddled up with the fact that reality=suffering and that real life is meant to be painful or is it even real? This has led to him subconiously deciding that he deserves everything that has happened since.
What do they struggle with now? Is it the same as the above?
It is very much the same. He has made some attempts to deal with the anger, it’s an ongoing thing. He has made no attempts to deal with the guilt because he feels he should feel guilty. He’s a little better at… actually helping people rather than just going the immediate kindest thing.
He’s also coming to terms with how not okay he is in general, he has no idea how to deal with anything that has happened to him outside of pushing on and keep trying to get stronger until it can’t hurt him any more.
What personal demons, specifically, haunt your character from canon or from past game experiences?
Killing Reno. Out of everything he has done or has been done to him this is the one that causes him the most guilt. Because it was him. He wasn’t under any mind influence, it wasn’t an experiment or a game. It was just Shion. Our of control, killing the person who had saved him numerous times over, who even then he saw as a father.
And that Reno forgave him, indeed thanked him for it is something he still cannot get his head round. He did something unforgivable and feels like he suffered no consequences for it. Worse than that he is so relieved, because if Reno had hated him Shion knows he would not have been strong enough to cope.
What is the type of person your character hopes to become? He wants to become a strong person. Someone like Nezumi, like Reno or like Gladio. He wants to become someone who can help others and shield them from harm.
What is the type of person you hope your character will become?
I want Shion to learn that he is already strong enough. That his strengths are his kindness and his patience and that he doesn’t need to be someone else. He can just be himself.
I’d also like him to forgive himself. To understand that just because he was born in privilege it does not mean that he cannot be upset or angry about things that have happened to him. That he has as much right to be angry about hurt done to him as he is about hurt done to others. I’d like him to realise that no matter where he was born or how long he was kept in ignorance the person he chose to be when he learned the truth is what is important. He’s not an awful person.
Do any of the Seven Deadly Sins or Virtues stand out as applicable to your character? Why?
Kindness- Shion is incredibly kind sometimes to a fault.
Fortitude – Despite everything Shion doesn’t give up. He is able to keep going even when things are hard.
Wrath- The aforementioned rage issues, triggered by those he cares about most being hurt (currently hurting Nezumi, Aster or Connor will make him berserk).
