February Event: To Dye For

FEBRUARY EVENT: TO DYE FOR

The presence of those peculiar ink-stained pages has been a fleeting constant ever since early December, culminating in Storyteller's eventual explanation that they are, in fact, a new type of security system.
The Storyteller has been working out the kinks in said security system for some time now, which might explain their studious absence and general non-responsiveness. This extended absence will, they hope, soon come to an end. But they're going to need your help, as always. Your completely optional, entirely voluntary help - you might very well be too busy to pitch in, and that's perfectly fine. Though you might very well see some benefits to lending a hand, should you so choose.
Let the Only Sound

Essentially, those fluttering pages overhead are the Storyteller's means of protecting the island of Ensō a little more securely than it has, in the past. While there were definitely a few patches required in ensuring that those pages did not aggravate the island's present dangers, and incense them into unwanted motion, it seems that, for the most part, those flocks of paper birds have become much calmer, and less liable to spray ink into your face and eyes. Isn't that nice?

The issue that arises is this: the Storyteller now, essentially, needs the entirety of Ensō painted over in a layer of ink, to ensure that their protective measures will stick, in a sense. And given the erratic, inconsistent performance of their papery assistants, that's where you all come in.

They're going to need a little help painting the town.
From February 18th to Febraury 23rd, a fresh sprout of flowers will crop up beside each of the mana pools on the island: blue and purple begonias. Dropping any of these blooms into the pools will, temporarily, transform the greenish, consumable liquid within into a pool of thick, slightly viscous, paint-like ink. It will come in any color imaginable, a veritable rainbow of every possible hue and shade under the sun. One only needs to visualize whatever particular color they require in order to make it be so, the same way one focuses on their destination while undergoing mana pool travel. Though, if you don't focus quite hard enough, it's very possible you'll end up with a swirl of several colors, all mixed together in one. Functionally, they'll work just the same, but it wouldn't be terribly pretty, would it? Unless you're shooting for something more abstract - in which case, go for it.

The goal here, in essence, is to "ink" the entire island of Ensō for protection. That means land, trees, structures, and anything else present on the landmass. Don't worry if there are any illustrations or belongings that you don't want soaked through with ink; the ink in question will remain as a visible, gluey coat for a maximum of twenty-four hours, before fading away as its magic soaks into whatever it has been painted upon, leaving the affected area dry and wholly intact. Indeed, aside from the slight scent of ink residue, which tends to fade away in a few hours on its own, it will be as if it had never been painted over at all.

This might make it a bit hard to tell which areas have been sufficiently inked and which haven't...but that just means you'll have to go over the area again, won't you? To be extra certain, of course!
Be the Overflow

The real end goal here is to ensure that Ensō remains protected for the foreseeable future, but there's no reason you can't have a little fun while you're at it. The Storyteller will supply buckets, paintbrushes, and even something a little mroe advanced to make the entire process that much more easier for you.

And if players see fit to sort themselves into teams, we'd hardly try to stop you. In fact, if you're so inclined, we encourage you to pick a color and rally into teams of whatever size you like, to see who can cover the most of the island in one color all in one go.
If there's sufficient evidence that a particular team has managed to coat most of the island, or if certain teams were notably enthusiastic...well, there might be some prizes in it for you. Might be. There's no knowing what those might be, of course, but they might very well be worth your while.

By February 23rd, the mana pools will lose their additional "inkpot" function, and order will be restored. A good twenty-four hours after, and the island will look just the same as it ever did, though you might still catch the faint scent of ink on the breeze, if your sense of smell is particularly sensitive. That ink won't fade away unless it's applied, however, and its resistant, protective properties, vague as they are, might prove useful - so no one is stopping you from saving a bottle or two, if you wanted.

So go forth - repaint, and thin no more!
Event Timeline
[ ♆ ] February 18th: The mana pools gain a function that allows them to double as pools of ink, facilitating their use in painting the island over.
[ ♆ ] February 20th: The monthly Storytelling occurs.
[ ♆ ] February 23rd: The mana pools lose their inkpot function, leaving behind only whatever ink you might have saved.
