OOC INTRO: JULY

State of the Game
Hello and welcome to our newest arrivals! And to those of you checking in on the state of things - welcome back! Last month, a blur of chaotic effects on characters all over the archipelago was resolved by a restoration of the true nature of the island of Io, which has gone from a place of mild relaxation to a bastion of delight. The Avatar of Fun, having been restored to their proper state, is more than happy for you to make full use of the new facilities!

We've loved the feedback we've gotten about the game thus far, positive and negative, and encourage you to contact us whenever you feel it is necessary!

Our intro log will be going up on the comms on July 3rd, so as to avoid conflict with any obligations you might have for the Fourth of July. Until then, a few quick points:

1. Io. Better enjoy this island while you can, adventurers! By July 10th, it will be vanishing from the archipelago. The Storyteller will be giving you plenty of time to clear out before it disappears, but be sure that you're not still there when Io is due to disperse, as this will result in a character death.

2. July Event. Information on July's event will be going up on the OOC comm around July 7th. This event will involve extensive exploration, as well as a greater access into the metaplot. If this interests you, be sure to take advantage!

3. New Island. Our final island in this voting round will be arriving in the archipelago on July 22nd, and will be sticking around for at least the duration of the following month, if not longer. Exploration will also take a focus here, but don't worry about dividing your time - since the new island will be around for a good while, you can take your time and prioritize as needed!

In the meantime, feel free to use this post as an OOC intro and CR meme for the month of June - for new players to introduce themselves, for old players to meet and greet, and for general plotting to occur! If you want to chat or keep up with game updates, we also have both a plurk and a discord channel!

Character: Tim Wright (postictal) from web series Marble Hornets, the Drifter (hyperlit) from indie game Hyper Light Drifter, Agent Washington (counterblows) from web series Red vs. Blue
Permissions: TIM, DRIFTER, and WASH - all pretty basic stuff, though some of these are in dire need of revamping. If any of these characters tread near content warning-y stuff for you, gimme a poke and I'll be happy to omit stuff from my tags and the like.
Tell us about them:

TIM has got troubled thoughts and the self-esteem to match. He's a depressed chainsmoker from a web series called Marble Hornets (aka that one slender man webseries that Started It All) and a CRAU from sol_raveh. He tries very hard and does generally mean well, but struggles a very lot with his own copious mental health issues. Has somehow progressed to being the rakish uncle of at least several children? Currently runs Denny, which is lifeaftr's sole eatery, and a carpentry place.

THE DRIFTER is from an indie game called Hyper Light Drifter. Silent, blue-skinned wanderer who communicates via sign language and/or a little bobbing sprite thing that hovers by their shoulder and projects text. They're suffering from an incurable terminal illness and are technically just dying in slow motion, but in general they're here to help!! They will happily teach sign language to anyone who asks.

AGENT WASHINGTON is from a web show called Red vs. Blue, which is a halo-based machinima about colorful space marines thats funny until it stops being funny and starts being really fucking sad. in general, he's pretty dependable in a crisis, is a highly accomplished killer, and has a hell of a Traumatic Past. but he's getting better, kinda. he has a tigerlily that wasn't supposed to be his, and actually has it a lot less together than he seems because people from home are a BIG CONCERN

Current plans:

TIM still runs Denny, which is LifeAftr's one and only restaurant. Let me know if you wanna work there! We can handwave if you want, or if you want some good establishing threads for laying CR groundwork, we can do that too. I've been bad at getting Denny mingles up but hopefully I can change that this month. If you need any carpentry or construction done, Tim doesn't mind helping u out with that whenever necessary! He also doesn't expect any fuckin like, payment or whatever.

THE DRIFTER is bound to go full speed ahead as far as future explorations go since they're...in a weird place rn where they're being forced to re-evaluate how they define themself and it's honestly a weird struggle. they're considering giving their compulsive wandering a break and actually living in a dang house???? weird. but once exploration starts up again they wanna be ALL OVER THAT.

WASH dealt with a mixture of embarrassing "i was turned into a cat and it fucking sucked" shenanigans as well as Traumatic As All Shit "my best friend just skipped forward in time and is now SUFFERING A LOT BECAUSE OF IT" and "i was briefly turned into a robot/ai amalgamate and it honestly wasn't great" absolute GARBO from last month so uh. exploration? yeah, that sounds sufficiently distracting. He'll Do That!

i can probably swing things in the direction of sign language! the drifter hasn't used it as much recently, but the latest event when they switched bodies required that they make use of it, so it's On The Brain now.

as far as thread topics go, i'm pretty flexible to let things go wherever they will! i'd definitely be down to throw the drifter into some search requests with horatio tho!

Oh my god, ngl he’s gonna win a million points for treating them like an adult they have a Thing about being treated as an equal by people older than them so that’s def gonna go down super well. Plus, him being a robot will also smooth things for them a fair amount, so he’ll have a little fount of information about humans whenever he wants

Tell us about them: She's a sick lab experiment that comes from a post apocalyptic world where humanity is like super dead. She's childish, kind, scared of her own shadow, and is living her best raccoon life. Does some casual breaking at entering, likes playing baseball and hide and seek, will drag your character into random games, loves treasure hunting. Which is really just like garbage collecting. Come be a dingus with her. Also has [2] cat friends named EGG and ESP and has a huge inventory post on her journal for trades.

Current plans: i! want! to! do! everything! always! and forever! all cr is good and she's p easy to get along with, so if ur people need to get out and about, this is ur goblin girl.


Character: Two sandsister
Permissions: Opt out post bc her canon is filled with violence.
Tell us about them : Two is considered a goddess in her world and has five other sisters, one of which is out to kill them. In actuality, she's a piece of an evil flower created from the memories of the murder sister. It's a lot. It's whatever. All her memories are fake and she's doing fine. She rules over the Land of Sands with her boo Cent and adopted a million orphans because she's like that. She is super friendly, kinda ditzy, very protective and loves hard. She is 99% optimism and 1% unable to cope with tragedy without going catatonic. Also she has a big sword.

Current plans: Still trying to get her situated. She lives with Mira now and is 100% up for explorations and would be a good fighty asset to a group. Because she is, unknowingly, an evil flower despite her cheery, friendly personality, spiritually inclined characters can totally sense something's off with her if they want.

Tell us about them:
Chara is a kid who’s been put through the Groundhog Day wringer a few too many times whilst having little to no support for the duration of it. It’s made them a little sassy, a little dubious of trust, and a little murders... though they have gotten better on the latter two fronts.


Current plans: Chara’s been a bit MiA due to RL goings on, so I’m keen to get them back in by reconnecting with old cr, and making some next connections, as well! I’m definitely interested in getting them exploring later on, so if you’re keen on that or have any other ideas, feel free to hit me up!

Tell us about yourself: British Summer Time. I spend 3/4 of the year in Santander, Spain, but I’m boarding a plane back to the UK tonight because summer holidays. She/her. I like playing goofy idiots.
Character: Zidane Tribal atailoftwoworlds

Zidane is distracted by cute girls and while he has a girl he loves back home and has no interest in pursuing a relationship and nothing is going to go beyond cheesy pickup lines and probably him being easily to manipulate in some ways, do let me know if you get uncomfortable! RP isn’t fun if someone is miserable.
Tell us about them: Young thief who is a huge optimist, very friendly and sociable (although not known for good manners) but seemingly obsessed with pretty girls. However, Zidane is streetwise, smarter and deeper thinking than he lets on. Zidane also goes out of his way to help others, whether it is saving their lives, giving advice to cheer them up or just listening. He also grew up as an orphan not knowing where he was from and wanting a place to call home. Then he found his birthplace and to say it was disappointing would be a massive understatement. However, with the ~Power of Friendship~ he recovered quickly and finally found that place to call home - except he can’t go there atm since he’s now stuck in Life After.

Zidane really wants to go back but he’s gonna do his best to help the others and he’s staying positive because he’s not the only one who can’t go home. He hasn’t talked to anyone about his worries yet though (even though he knows he probably should) but anyone who knows him a little and is perceptive enough and isn’t super nosey might be able to get through.

Current plans: Zidane will be down for trying all those fun things on Io, especially the go karts and rollercoaster because everyone needs to relax after a weird two months! So I want to do stuff with that! He also spends time at the Denny to check up on people there and to play games. Feel free to hand wave any CR with him. He plays cards with Hector sometimes.

He will also be down for exploring the new island although I might be a bit slow during that time as I will be on holiday to the USA. Just as a note!

Tell us about yourself: Arizona Time (I think we're PST right now?), she/her, busy graphic designer/illustrator who works a lot of hours (aka backtagging is great).
Permissions: Permissions over here, mostly regarding dragon things and Starflight's Dreamvisitor.
Tell us about them: Starflight is your resident teen dragon book nerd. He's shy, nervous, smart, and easily intimidated. He basically lives in the library and can be found there pretty much always? If you visit the library frequently there is a non-zero chance you have run into him. He's been here long enough now that he is "getting the hang of it" but he is always learning about humans and other non-dragon things.
Current plans: Mostly I would love to get Starflight into some exploration this month (especially given the hints about the July event). Someone drag him out of the library, this boy needs to get outside. As a note, Starflight is also "in charge" of the library and if you want to work there just let me know on the library page.

Character: The Guilty Gear franchise's iconic medical professional, Doctor Faust!
Permissions: They're a bit barebones right now...
Tell us about them: Faust is the isles' resident elderly back-alley doctor hailing from China! Highly qualified and experienced as both a physician and surgeon, he has been attempting to put his skills to good use by commandeering the local clinic building for the benefit of all!
He is also 9'3", almost inhumanly lanky, and wears a paper bag on his head at all times. Clearly, he's not the medical professional the isles want, but the medical professional the isles deserve.
Current plans: My quest for new CR, good or bad, and general shenanigans continues! Hit me up with anything and everything you've got!
As for Faust himself...with the Clown Box's reign of terror over, the good doctor will be attending to anybody injured from its machinations (provided they're willing to come within thirty feet of him), before mandating himself and anybody he finds to enjoy themselves on Io's new attractions!
He'll also be trying to whip the clinic's supply cabinet into better shape as a response to the acid burns the Clown Box chose to inflict - expect a new clinic thread in the near future!

Yellowfang - Yellowfang is an elderly feral cat who participates in organized cat religion and practices cat medicine. She used to be a warrior, but the heavens cursed her with physical empathy which is not good when your job is to claw other cats' eyes out and she got shoved into the cat nursing program instead. She's still just a little bitter. Also she had a son at one point but wasn't allowed to tell him she was his mom because she was functionally a nun and he was an oops baby with the clan leader. He was a very bad kitty and murdered multiple other cats, kittens, and even his own dad so Yellowfang had to take him out herself.

She hangs out near the Denny on the main island because there's lots of lizards to eat.

Roman - Roman will be arriving this round. He's like a really shitty Beetlejuice with a stutter and a math tutoring job. He's a college kid who is also a demon and whose moral compass has started spinning wildly out of control. His memories of his parents have been stolen, and he must make twisted devil's deals with people in order to regain them and lift his curse. It's starting to take too long and Roman is starting to run out of things he won't do to achieve his goal. At his core he is a good boy but for how long?

He can do magics for your characters and will be around causing general mischief!

Tell us about them: HMD post, IC contact, pointless inventory post. A Very Cheerful And Silly Skeleton who is absolutely miserable on the inside. His type of spirit is powered by memories, unfortunately the only people who remember him are a 99 year old woman with Alzheimer's and her great grandson, who's just now hearing a few stories. Has a serious brittle bone problem--he breaks easy.. Wears his usual ratty pants and this stupid shirt most of the time. It's a bit inkstained and getting worn out. Everyone can totally see his hipbones (THINK OF THE CHILDREN, BUDDY) aaand he has no shoes. Will talk your ear off about nothing and be as helpful as possible. Gets attached to people very very quickly, because one never knows when they might disappear. He doesn't really have a set schedule, mostly he just ambles around and does whatever seems best at the time. He can cook, though he can't eat the food he makes normally, and he does this often because it's fun. Also hangs around the library being vaguely useful sometimes.

Current plans: Beyond whatever events come around this month, he is about to hit his one year anniversary and he is not pleased. Sometimes a skeleton needs to go out, punch some trees, and break his idiot hand!!
