Monthly Rundown: October
MONTHLY RUNDOWN: OCTOBER

After a very busy month chasing dragons and putting out fires, the slow drop in temperature across the archipelago is probably a nice change, paving the way to some lazy autumn days - or as close to autumn as the tropical climate can get. There's almost an air of relaxation to Ensō, a silent exhale as the hold of past trials and tribulations loosens.
Even the air feels easier to breathe.
Characters will find no new island or important events demanding their attention this October. The aftermath of the events on Nastrandir leaves some treasures to locate, repairs to be made, and a new...friend introducing themself to you all, for the very first time.
Major Events
Throughout the month of October, you can expect the following to occur, each with their own post.
On October 4th, characters will have the chance to finally have a meet and greet with a mysterious friend - if "friend" is the right word. Our new NPC, the God of Water, will be seeking to make contact with adventurers, both to talk about their journey so far…and to outline a few, important motivations of their own. From the day of their appearance, the Water will be providing a method to get in contact with them at any time in future, and will be about to chat to in person for the duration of October. For the most part, October will be a month of relative recuperation. Most events for this month will be fully optional, and will not be island-wide.
On October 20th, your old friend the Storyteller will make contact with the islanders via a dream in Mu. This announcement will ICly cover our planned changes to Storytelling, but it will also be an opportunity for adventurers to give the Storyteller any information that they find pertinent for any new arrivals down the line, as they are attempting to compile an IC list of events and important information meant to be available for all islanders, particularly new arrivals.
Nastrandir Aftermath
The support given to Nastrandir has, mercifully prevented the island from being completely destroyed! Mostly, anyway. As it was an even split of adventurers who decided to fight Ahidalga head-on and those who remained behind on Ensō to ensure that their home was not thoroughly torched, the island of Nastrandir has suffered...some damage. Namely, most of the southern area - the 4-row and down - has become a crushed, flooded, burned shadow of what it once was. One will require a boat to traverse those areas with any ease, unless they happen to be a strong swimmer, or some other means of crossing wet areas.
However, Ahidalga's nest has been left untouched, save for some superficial battle-scarring, not to mention the dragon's massive corpse lying sprawled over the center of the island. Characters who feel particularly thrifty can loot from Ahidalga's body a seemingly infinite supply of the following:
[ ♆ ] Dragon blood. Ahidalga's blood has similar traits to acid, and can be very dangerous if handled with one's bare hands. It is capable of burning through wood and flesh and clothing, but not metal or glass, and therefore can be bottled.Ahidalga's nest can be found at I2 on Nastrandir, and can also be looted at your leisure. Within, one can find a great deal of the following.
[ ♆ ] Dragon bone. Ahidalga's bones are incredibly strong, akin to steel in strength and durability, and can be whittled into weapons or tools. The largest bones are also quite heavy...but can be used for building supports and construction, if you can carry them on your own or don't mind asking for a little help.
[ ♆ ] Dragon scales. As evidenced in battle, Ahidalga's natural armor is also incredibly strong, akin to steel in strength and durability. Their high heat resistance makes them ideal for being crafted into shields or armor, or used in construction for building roofs, floors, or walls.
[ ♆ ] Dragon fangs. Very sharp, and also incredibly strong - like Ahidalga's scales and bone, its fangs are likewise akin to steel in strength and durability, and can be crafted into weapons or tools.
[ ♆ ] Wing membrane. Strong, sturdy, flexible, and useful for crafting into cloaks, capes, gloves, or other garments. The high heat resistance makes the membrane from Ahidalga's wings very useful for crafting protective gear.
[ ♆ ] Strands of dragon sinew. Like most everything found in Ahidalga's body, the sinews and fibers are very strong and have a very high heat resistance. Strands of Ahidalga's muscle tissue or heartstrings can be used to tie down objects, or to craft lengths of highly durable ropes and twines.
[ ♆ ] Assorted riches. Ahidalga was the sort of dragon to hoard, and hoard it did. Precious gemstones, golden coins, strands of jewelry...if you can picture it, it's there. We are happy for players to choose whichever sorts of treasure their characters may take home with them. You may RNG for which sorts of magical items your character encounters, or you may pick whichever is most appealing.
[ ♆ ] Assorted metal. Much of it comes in the form of armor, likely belonging to those that faced this massive foe in times gone past. Some of it is iron, but much of it is crafted of the same unique kind of ore that was used to make the other firearms and armor found on Nastrandir - not iron, but close to it in durability and flexibility.
[ ♆ ] Certain magical items, listed below. There are multiples of each item; it is not first come, first served!
- Amulet of Terror: When this necklace is worn, it prevents nightmares, though it does not mend any other preexisting sleep problems.
- Blade of Plenty: An ornate knife that can and will cut through anything...by turning it into cake. This blade will not work on objects in motion, which includes most living things, or on anything larger than a small sapling.
- Coat of Grappling: A jacket that appears to be comprised of many dark, writhing tentacles. It's highly adept at swatting away attacks and grabbing onto walls, which can allow for easier climbing and scaling of walls, but can also tend to grab anything around it, relatively indiscriminately.
- Crimson Helm: Renders the wearer immune to extreme heat.
- Gauntlet of Ossein: Makes wearer's bones much stronger, and more durable...but also heavier. This may make one stronger and sturdier than usual, though these protective qualities do not extend to flesh, muscle, skin, or any other surrounding tissue. The additional weight may also cause one to become more easily fatigued, or to sink into water or soft ground.
- Lantern Staff: Capable of generating a radius of light and heat at a maximum of 20ft around its bearer. The longer it is lit, the hotter it gets to the touch. At twelve hours, it will burn human skin.
- Orb of Companionship: A friend that hovers at about shoulder length, calmly orbiting whomever picks it up and holds it for a long enough amount of time. Does not favor communication or interaction beyond vague mumbling sounds, but very much enjoys gazing upon its favored companion in absolute silence.
- Sunblade: The blade is perpetually hot - hot enough to carve raw meat and end up cooking it in the process. It's kept within a special scabbard that keeps it from burning its user.

Minor Events
There's a lot going on in the background of the archipelago, as well - on the islands, and even on the islets, the coming month will see certain goings-on cropping up, here and there. These events will not be getting their own logs; you may interact with any number of them at your leisure, or not at all!
EVENT NAME: THE DISPLACED
WHERE: ENSŌ, ISLETS
WHEN: OCTOBER 1ST - OCTOBER 31ST
As it turns out, the conflict on Nastrandir has left some of the area's local fauna in need of a new home. Throughout the entirety of October you're likely to find ANY of the natural predators and prey found on Nastrandir to be wandering around Ensō, or even on the islets themselves - smatterings of rocobra, caraliss, veep, mecoro, oramog, wyving, noino, pyjacks, or woodwitches may be found in small, select amounts on Ensō. The predators are likely to be busy disrupting the island's natural ecosystem by hunting Ensō's edible prey, such as snaplings or bludroc, while the prey are likely to try chomping down on any of the edible flora in the area - including crops. Either make short work of these creatures, find some other way to clear them out, or simply contain them, but either way, it's advised you do something about them before they eat you all out of house and home.
Among these new arrivals are heretofore undiscovered creatures known as draclings. Roughly the size of a tree frog and possessing a set of those very powerful legs, this creature is mostly heard rather than seen. It utters cricket-like chirps up until the moment that it doesn't, which means that you've probably ventured too close to it and it's begun to feel threatened. When wondering whether its defense mechanism is fire or poison, the answer is...yes. Yes, to both of those.
EVENT NAME: REPLANT AND REMOVE
WHERE: ENSŌ
WHEN: OCTOBER 2ND - OCTOBER 10TH
The fires caused by Ahidalga's offspring have left a few ugly patches across Ensō's landscapes, affecting both food supplies, and the general aesthetic of the Storyteller's island. Though not in the most talkative mood quite yet, they'd be grateful to most anyone who'd be willing to offer help in replanting efforts, including taking down some of the burnt out husks of trees that are nothing more than a threat to their surroundings, at this point.
Thus, from October 2nd to 10th, characters will find additional supplies in the Storyteller's temple to assist with these efforts, including axes, mixed native seeds, and hundreds of tree saplings. Go ham with the planting, if you'd like - or feel free to organize for plants that provide edible fruits to be planted a little more strategically.
EVENT NAME: FINNA BOING
WHERE: ENSŌ, ISLETS
WHEN: OCTOBER 15TH - OCTOBER 31ST
On October 15th, the waters surrounding the islets, as well as Ensō's coasts will receive some strange new visitors. An infestation of creatures known as cherrwyrms will begin to populate the shores. In spite of their darling appearance, they are, in fact, an invasive species, and are often spotted in schools of up to a dozen. They are so named for the cherry-blossom-like growths on their body that help them camouflage in their natural habitat. It is debatable whether cherrwyrms are true wyrms or just particularly large sea-snakes. While they have no legs, their venom is highly poisonous. Said venom is a potent hallucinogen, and tends to cause loss of motor control - and potential drowning, if you're in deep water. Thankfully, they are not normally aggressive - though juveniles may mistake limbs in the water as a snack.
The keen eyed may notice that cherrwyrms seem to avoid certain patches of water, and further investigation will find those waters infested with something else: banana leaves. It seems there's something about these leaves that the cherrwyrms can't stand. So for anyone looking to prevent injury to the unsuspecting, placing a few of these within the waterline you'd like to keep safe will clear out these little (or not so little) pests within a few hours.

Also: is there a limit to the number of magical items a single character can take?
no subject
We're happy to leave this to players to decide, within reason! If you're intending to acquire enough for a small armory, this is likely better to organize between a group.

I was actually thinking that Legion would take one sample of everything for their museum idea + an orb of companionship and maybe a blade of plenty for themselves.

For now, though, you can definitely use any of the above prompts, save for the major NPC interactions, for your own open logs, posts, catch-alls, and the like!

PLAYER PROJECTS
GARDEN/PAVILION AREA
The basic idea we as players had was a sort of pavilion area that could maybe be arranged into a stage or other sort of performance area, with a whole bunchload of flowering or fruiting plants around it. But of course other ideas are fully welcome--the intent is for others to get use out of this as well, of course! Ideas for square placement, amenities, and layout are all welcome, as is IC assistance since Ed is but one goat-man and can't do ALL the heavy lifting himself.

Museum
Currently, they're mostly interested in collecting items of interest from places they've explored, possibly write ups of events. If your character is friends with them you're free to handwave Legion hitting them up, or we can thread out something.

Oh! I just remembered, he does have a datapad he can pass onto Legion for adding to the museum. It's the one from this post. He also has a honeycomb hammer he can pass along from everyone's adventures fighting the Clown Box.
Goodness, he has more stuff than I thought he did!

I am fine with handwaving everything, but I will be putting a log up for Ignis in the next few days, so if you decide you want to thread anything, feel free to hit it up.

-Dragonscales! Insulate that sucker!
-THAT'S LITERALLY I-- oh wait, something to stick the bricks together I guess.
