Monthly Rundown: November

MONTHLY RUNDOWN: NOVEMBER
Last month, adventurers got the much-needed chance to relax. Time was spent plundering a dragon's loot and corpse, processing months' worth of constant fighting, and partying away the trauma. You also received a visit from a new friend, the Water, and the start, perhaps, of a few long-awaited answers.

You'd best get used to them. The Water is here to stay, and what's more is they're here to help. At least, according to them. But they can't do any of what they're going to do alone - they're going to need your help.

Major Events
Throughout the month of November, you can expect the following to occur:

EVENT NAME: AND WE GIVE THANKS
WHERE: ENSŌ, ISLETS
WHEN: NOVEMBER 3RD - NOVEMBER 20TH
On November 3rd, characters will discover a simple strip of dark leather among their belongings, meant to be worn around the neck or wrist. They can disregard it, of course, but if they attempt to discard or destroy it, it will always find its way back to them, no matter how improbably. How strange...

Perhaps even stranger is the sudden appearance of a smooth slab of stone, half-submerged in the waters just off of Ensō's coast. Around its edges are a series of deep notches, as though something is meant to be inserted into them. In its center is a pool of water, though it curiously doesn't seem to reflect anything...

There will be an event log that will share some of the details behind this occurrence. You may make full use of that log for this event and any of the minor events detailed below. You are also free to create your own open logs and network posts as well!

EVENT NAME: NUIDAN'S RETURN
WHERE: NUIDAN
WHEN: NOVEMBER 20TH - ONWARD
Come November 20th, Nuidan will return to the archipelago - and its state will be wholly dependant on you. Just what do we mean by that? Wait and see - for the event log on November 3rd, and you'll see for yourself!

There will be an island return log on this date in which you can read up on the details of how your actions have affected its return. You can anticipate the island remaining in the archipelago after the month of November, and for perhaps longer...so you don't need to worry about rushing to check it out right away, if you're too preoccupied!

Minor Events
There's a lot going on in the background of the archipelago, as well - on the islands, and even on the islets, the coming month will see certain goings-on cropping up, here and there. These events will not be getting their own logs, unless you wish to include them in the event log that will be posted at the beginning of the month; you may interact with any number of them at your leisure, or not at all!

EVENT NAME: AW, MAN
WHERE: ENSŌ
WHEN: NOVEMBER 4TH - NOVEMBER 12TH
We hope you took advantage of last month's materials and resources to rebuild, because this month, something new appears to have infested these islands with a singular desire to set back any and all progress you have made. You might know them well, but if you don't...they're the very definition of silent but deadly. Creepers have a nasty tendency to blend in with their surroundings thanks to their green, mottled texture, and will happily pack themselves into the thickest parts of Ensō's jungles. They do express a minor preference towards caves, thick forests, or other areas with consistently low light levels, but are otherwise relatively comfortable in any environment. They are far more active and prevalent at night than during the day, but can operate in the daytime well enough.

They excel at stealthily sneaking up on unsuspecting prey and, with very little warning save for a menacing hiss, detonating at point-blank range with an explosion radius of about five feet in all directions. Anything with a constitution less than that of stone usually won't survive, which makes these creatures devastating against most buildings. We suggest that you do your best to keep them away from any communal spaces, if possible. They are highly vulnerable at long range, but if you're careful, they can be killed at close range as well by conventional means.

Creepers killed before they can complete their detonation process can be harvested for raw sulfur and gunpowder, usually one or two handfuls worth. However, if they do manage to explode, they leave nothing behind but the smoldering crater their blast radius, and the sour taste of frustration of having had one's work set back an immeasurable amount.

EVENT NAME: THE LORBLINGS
WHERE: ENSŌ
WHEN: NOVEMBER 11TH - NOVEMBER 25TH
Ladies and gentlemen and those of us who know better, we present to you: lorbies. The last time these particular animals were found, they were present on the volcanic island of Cahypdo. Many of you, however, sought to bring them back to Ensō and domesticate them for your own purposes. There's nothing wrong with that, exactly...except that November, apparently, marks a very important time for the lorby life cycle.

Mating season.

For two weeks in mid-November, you can expect to find some very small, wormlike creatures writhing about in the undergrowth of Ensō, stirring up quite a racket. Baby lorbies don't have the same kind of screaming power as a mature specimen, but their screams can generate some very powerful headaches, and nothing short of feeding them will shut them up. The good news, however, is that lorbies are more or less omnivorous. Just don't go feeding them any fingers; we don't need any of these things acquiring a taste for flesh.

EVENT NAME: RETURN TO YOUR ROOTS
WHERE: ENSŌ, NUIDAN
WHEN: NOVEMBER 21ST - NOVEMBER 31ST
The local flora has had to change by necessity, given that it is now supporting an island of dozens. It's rare, however, that a new growth will simply spring up on its own. Whether the seeds were carried by coastal winds or some other means, you'll find that there's a new species of plant now nestling down around Ensō's lakes and streams. Perhaps the worst part is that you're likely to hear it before you see it. But you will see it eventually, no doubt; nirnroot has a very distinctive blue-white glow, particularly after dark.

Nirnroot does not regrow once it is harvested, which is probably a good sign; the steady chiming sounds it makes, while ultimately harmless, can get to be very, very annoying. It has some base use as an alchemical ingredient, it is likely more useful as a spice in stews and other dishes.

It is also, technically, an invasive species to Ensō, so we recommend that you harvest as much of it as you can. For the love of our ears, please.
