Monthly Rundown: December
MONTHLY RUNDOWN: DECEMBER

Wasn't November nice? You all got a chance to appreciate each other, give thanks to one another, and to top it all off, the harvest island of Nuidan returned to allow you all a delightful celebration! There are certainly worse fates, aren't there?
It was your assistance last month that allowed the return of Nuidan...and your assistance will be required again. The archipelago, you see, is starting to reform. The islands of Nastrandir and Nuidan are already present alongside the stable presence of Ensō, and now the Water has started to pull forward more familiar shapes from your past explorations.
Major Events
Throughout the month of December, you can expect the following to occur:
EVENT NAME: OPPOSING VIEWPOINTS
WHERE: ALL ISLANDS
WHEN: DECEMBER 3RD - DECEMBER 20TH
For Water's next trick, they're going to bring back another island with which many of you might have a vaguely positive association...but that many of you might not. This time, they're going to bring back the split island of Monsun.
For those of you who aren't familiar, Monsun is best characterized and remembered by its capacity to bring out either your best or your worst self, as its avatar is that of Balance. So to bring back Monsun, some opposing qualities will have to be brought to light.
You'll see what we mean when the log goes up on December 3rd!
EVENT NAME: MONSUN'S RETURN
WHERE: MONSUN
WHEN: DECEMBER 20TH - ONWARD
Come December 20th, Monsun will return to the archipelago, though you might be a little surprised by the state it'll be in. We'll have more information for you by the time the island resurfaces, but in the meantime, those who aren't acquainted with that particular island's quirks can read up on them here!
There will be an island return log on this date in which you can read up on the details of how your actions have affected its return. You can anticipate the island remaining in the archipelago after the month of December, and for perhaps longer...so you don't need to worry about rushing to check it out right away, if you're too preoccupied!
Minor Events
There's a lot going on in the background of the archipelago, as well - on the islands, and even on the islets, the coming month will see certain goings-on cropping up, here and there. These events will not be getting their own logs, unless you wish to include them in the event log that will be posted at the beginning of the month; you may interact with any number of them at your leisure, or not at all!
EVENT NAME: ATTACK OF THE DERANGED MUTANT KILLER MONSTER SNOWGOONS
WHERE: ENSŌ, NASTRANDIR, NUIDAN
WHEN: DECEMBER 1ST - DECEMBER 31ST
For the most part, the tropical island of Ensō isn't too terribly susceptible to massive weather shifts. For the most part. That's not always the case, however, and you're going to find that in certain parts of the island, a wintery chill will be descending. Namely, the higher-altitude regions of Ensō, such as the mountain temple, will quickly find themselves blanketed in thick carpets of snow throughout most of the month of December. The same can be said for the rocky, mountainous areas of Nastrandir, as well as the entirety of the southern region of Nuidan, which is already quite snowy to begin with. In addition to the common dangers that a deluge of ice and sleet inevitably brings, the snow is going to draw with it some new friends: Snowgoons.
Snowgoons, as a species, vary quite wildly. Some are extremely hostile, jagged with icicles and prone to lobbing huge chunks of snow at travelers. Others are similarly combative but far less effective in their methods, and can even come across as downright goofy. Certain variants will look like nothing more than unassuming snowmen, until you get close enough to see otherwise. Still others are ultimately harmless and even cute, more prone to committing harmless acts of mischief than anything outright cruel, such as dropping heavy branches of snow on travelers' heads, or pelting you with snowballs.
In any case, they're easy to avoid - just stay out of the snowy parts of the islands! - and for the most part, easier still to dispense with. They are made up of snow, after all. With enough heat, you can scare them off...or even outright melt them away.
EVENT NAME: MISTLEDON'T
WHERE: ENSŌ, ISLETS, NUIDAN
WHEN: DECEMBER 10TH - DECEMBER 22ND
Perhaps you're well-acquainted with the tradition of the mistletoe, and why people indulge in that strange and silly phenomenon. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately), the variants that will begin to pop up all over the islands aren't nearly so straightforward, and they aren't purely symbolic, either. You'll be able to recognize the thick growths of mistletoe at a glance, as they tend to stand out, even when they're not growing in climates that are far too warm to sustain them.
So here's the deal: if you get stuck under one of these growths of mistletoe, you're going to radiate certain...effects. These effects will vary depending on the color of the berries you're stuck under, but all are going to be, most likely, equal parts frustrating and inconvenient.[ ♆ ] White: You find yourself affected by an intense, debilitating fear; it can be centered around anyone or anything, as long as it exists on the islands, and it will increase drastically the longer you're affectedThese effects are temporary, but they can only be removed via an expression of affection. You can go the traditional route of a kiss, be it romantic or platonic, or you can opt instead for something in the realm of verbal confession of friendship or love. Whether it be a hug, a holding of hands, a concession of friendship or familial intimacy, this is the only act that will consistently break the spell of the mistletoe.
[ ♆ ] Red: You will lose or gain a physical ability in such a way that actively hinders you (i.e., losing one of the five senses, gaining a nervous habit, losing access to a magical ability, etc.)
[ ♆ ] Green: You experience a strong compulsion to lie or obscure the truth, and generally act considerably more insincere and deceitful than you would usually
[ ♆ ] Blue: Your emotions get put on overdrive, and every emotion is experienced in its extremes; you won't be merely sad, but inconsolable, and not merely angry, but apoplectic, and so on
[ ♆ ] Yellow: You experience significantly heightened aggression; small spats will quickly mushroom into bitter feuds, and you'll find yourself much more willing to resort to violence to solve your problems
EVENT NAME: BREATH OF COLD AIR
WHERE: NUIDAN
WHEN: DECEMBER 15TH - DECEMBER 28TH
The southern quadrant of Nuidan is starting to get a little bolstered from all the cold weather...a little too much, in fact. The icy lower quarter of the island is actually starting to spread, and with the proliferation of snowgoons mentioned above, that's really not something you want to see happen. Slowly but surely, the ice and snow of Nuidan's south begins to advance upon the other parts of the island. If left unchecked, the entirety of the island of harvest will soon find itself wholly and utterly claimed by a frozen, stagnant fate. That's the loss of a lot of potential resources, folks!
In short, Nuidan is going to need your help to keep this freezing fate at bay. Controlled burns, careful applications of heat, and so on, can keep the blustery blizzard from swarming up the entire island. You'll be getting help from Harv in the process, fortunately, but it's advised that you take caution while you fight back the frost. As mentioned, those snowgoons are rife throughout the cold weather, and they'll be happy to make your life downright miserable if it means they get to play in their winter wonderland for a long, long time.
