Monthly Rundown: March
MONTHLY RUNDOWN: MARCH

February sure was fun for everyone, wasn't it? Floating islands, quartz-crystal beasts...it was a shorter month but a full one, to say the least. With March on the horizon, it's not looking as though things are going to get easier. Perhaps they'll be easier to deal with, however.
Major Events
Throughout the month of March, you can expect the following to occur:
EVENT NAME: LOST CONNECTIONS
WHERE: ALL ISLANDS
WHEN: MARCH 3RD - MARCH 19TH
There wasn't a new island last month, unless you count those floating ones overhead. That's going to change this month. The Water is going to bring back the island of Ai'tuoh, and once again, they're going to need your help to do it.
This choice in island return very well may not be popular. The last time you explorers ventured to Ai'tuoh, you discovered a draconian society liable to punish the smallest and most seemingly harmless infractions, from owning clothes with pockets to trading incorrect goods. With a significant number of islanders imprisoned for these unjust crimes, the remainder of you all staged a rather successful revolution...and now it's time for you to learn of the fallout of that, and what is to be next for this island, and yourselves.
Come March 3rd, we'll have an Undercurrent Event log up to let you all know what you'll be doing to help bring this treasured island back.
EVENT NAME: AI'TUOH'S RETURN
WHERE: AI'TUOH
WHEN: MARCH 20TH - ONWARD
Come March 20th, Ai'tuoh will return to the archipelago. What that means for the rest of you will be more evident upon the island's proper reappearance, but in the meantime, those who aren't acquainted with what that island entailed can familiarize themselves with Ai'tuoh here!
There will be an island return log on this date in which you can read up on the details of how your actions have affected its return. You can anticipate the island remaining in the archipelago after the month of March, and for perhaps longer...so you don't need to worry about rushing to check it out right away, if you're too preoccupied!
EVENT NAME: SOMETHING GETTING CLOSER
WHERE: ???
WHEN: MARCH 1ST - ONWARD...
Remember that shape you've been seeing on the horizon for the past two months? It's still coming. And it's getting awfully close. Close enough to make look like...another island? Or maybe some kind of enormous monster...
Or both.
Minor Events
There's a lot going on in the background of the archipelago, as well - on the islands, and even on the islets, the coming month will see certain goings-on cropping up, here and there. These events will not be getting their own logs, unless you wish to include them in the event log that will be posted at the beginning of the month; you may interact with any number of them at your leisure, or not at all!
EVENT NAME: THE RETURN OF YOUR SPECIAL LIFTING FRIEND
WHERE: ALL ISLANDS
WHEN: MARCH 1ST - MARCH 10TH
Once upon a time, in an archipelago very much like this one, a man named Lucas Miller arrived to the islands and brought his special elevator friend with him. People were not happy. They were scooped up by this very...jolly creature and spat out all over the place, seemingly at random. Once the elevator's reign of terror was complete, he flew off and hid away in some region of Ensō that has remained mercifully undisturbed...until now.
Those quartzalcoatl seem to have disturbed this elevator's isolation to a significant extent. So now, for one last time, it looks as though Upsy, your favorite lifting friend, is back for an encore! For one last time, adventurers will find the skies haunted by this floating, perpetually gleeful scourge. While Upsy is not inherently dangerous - all he's doing is picking you up for a fun elevator ride, after all! - he can certainly be a rather alarming sight, and he can cause all sorts of trouble. He tends to swoop in, scoop adventurers into his, er, mouth, and carry them off to some place at random. And that trip can be a rather unpleasant one, too. His interior is more than a little...sticky, rather like sitting in a great beast's mouth. How fun.
From March 1st to March 10th, adventurers had best be on guard. Just because Upsy doesn't mean to cause any harm doesn't mean that he won't inadvertently cause some. Upsy boasts a complete lack of concern for when he picks you up and where he drops you off - you can end up on virtually any of the islands back in the archipelago, and right on top of some of the most dangerous creatures in the vicinity. Sure, Upsy might not mean to spit you out on top of a fustercluck, but that's a very real possibility.
EVENT NAME: SPRING FORTH
WHERE: UMUI
WHEN: MARCH 12TH - MARCH 21ST
The Water does feel bad for the unintentional trauma they caused last month, what with the quartzalcoatl and all. So they've opted to try and make it up to you by brushing up against that largely uninhabited island of Umui and pouring a great deal of their energies into what used to be the quarry region. What exists there now, instead chunks of rock and a more or less empty, grassy wasteland, is a wide variety of natural hot springs.
While the water in these springs has no inherent restorative property, the springs themselves can be glorious to behold. Natural water jets shoot fountains of colorful water into the air, and water temperature will always be just right to whoever wants to relax. Geysers fan rainbow-colored steam into the air, and some springs will dispense luridly tinted bubbles into the pools while you relax in them, seemingly for the sheer enjoyment of it. There are also, inexplicably, quite a few simplistic wooden toys lying strewn about near the springs. You're free to take these home if you like, though they're quite useless. They make nice ornaments or playthings, though!
The Water cannot maintain this landmark forever, however. Enjoy them while you can, because after March 21st, the springs will disperse and leave Umui as it was - quiet, a little eerie, and mostly bereft of sentient life.
EVENT NAME: THE HAPPY HANG GLIDER VACATION SOCIETY
WHERE: ENSŌ, ALL ISLANDS
WHEN: MARCH 22ND - MARCH 31ST
Not to be outdone, it appears that the Storyteller is equally remorseful about the last month being as dangerous as it was. Come March 22nd, anyone who stops by the Storyteller's Temple will discover that all manner of strange contraptions have somehow ended up just outside it. What's more is that the air is feeling...breezier than usual.
That's right. For a period of time lasting until March 31st, characters can happily ride the winds above any of the islands, even make use of air currents to travel from island to island without the aid of mana pools! In spite of the rather flimsy-looking construction of these mechanisms, adventurers will find that weight is no obstacle. Those who are already flight-capable will also discover that all flight nerfs have receded for the time as well. The winds will take characters plenty high into the sky - even high enough to revisit those floating islands if they wish, though the shapes those islands have assumed will be the same as the last time.
Do be careful, though. Airborne hazards very much exist, and for all the magic imbued in these contraptions, they are still just paper; should they damaged, you can very easily plummet to your death, or worse.
