Farming, plant relocation, and plotting.

Hey! A lot of us have floated around ideas for starting a farm or relocating the growing plants that have already been discovered, and it's more than time to get that idea off the ground!

A few locations have been suggested in the past (the old farming plots near the temple and on the islets themselves), and some characters might have already started some small personal farms. This is a plotting and information gathering post to find out what characters are doing, where they think farms should be started, and what they have or want to contribute. Keep in mind what areas took hits during the flooding.

I don't know all the available plants, but I'll look around and try to gather what I find in a shareable doc. Would it beneficial to everyone if I also made a tab for farms and for what people want to do?

SO. Gobbet has a plan. She wants to start ranching the cariborn on H6. We have found enough timber to build a shack/cottage, which I have contacted Roy's player about but additional help is welcome and needed. She will also need help caring for and milking them, since she has no idea how hard this will actually be and when she finds out that it's not as easy as "let them graze" she'll be looking for helpers anyway. She can hire people with the following promises:

- A steady supply of milk
- Assistance in searching tiles of the map (reminder that her searches yield double resources)
- Use of one of her favors for the particularly helpful (she'll ask for whatever you want, but only once)

Who wants to help build or help with caring once the building is done?

A short while ago Sans started a sweet potato patch around the cottage he shares with Newt and Wade. They're still a few months from being ripe enough to eat, but at that point he's going to be looking to swap these sweet, sweet bundles of vitamin A-rich carbs for proteins and other things, since they can spoil readily without refrigeration.

There's a plot of land on E6 that Tim finally has the inclination and time and resources to devote to making into something farm-related. he's not super uhhhh talented a farmer so any help would probably be good lol

Tataru has two major plans at this point, one that I want to pull together soon and one more long-term.

For the immediate future, she'd like to see what plants can be rescued from the flooding and transplanted to safer locations in the islets. Farms, gardens, that sort of thing. Due to the flooding, there's probably a chance some (many?) of the transplants will fail but better late than never, and it's at least worth a try. Ideally, this'd be a decently large effort with as many people as possible, so please let me know if your character would be interested! You don't need to worry about how your character hears about it, Tataru will be talking to everyone.

Longer term, Tataru wants to set up a small farm near her cottage, specifically for plants that produce raw fibers and dyes. This includes coconut trees, cotton, flax, etc. I'd say hemp too but the raw plant for hemp is actually marijuana so uh. probably not unless we want to use the FFXIV alternative raw plant of Moko Grass. Also maybe she'll ask the Storyteller for a Karakul sometime.

She may also be happy to extend this garden to useful herbs and plants for medicines and spices but she's got her job and priority right now.

Lunafreya is just now gathering some seabeets to try to plant... somewhere, and is also attempting to domesticate some poop bugs f'rshaymes for a steady supply of clay and fertilizer. I was thinking she can handle raising a few root veggies by her cottage, but she's also very interested in growing medicinal plants, which I think should also be an islets project but not necessarily one she needs to handle by herself.

Hinata would be up for helping build it and care for the animals!

Hinata took that one coconut he got from the search the door times and planted it near his cottage. He'll be trying to make a small tree farm and maybe gather some other fruits to plant nearby. He'll talk about it soon and anyone willing to help is more than welcome to.

Mercy can assist in identifying and gathering medicinal plants for growing, but doesn't have much direct gardening knowledge. Though, if someone can show her how, she's not afraid to get her hands dirty.

That'd be great! I imagine Mercy will be doing more exploring than Luna's capable of, too, so if she can find things Luna will be more than happy to handle more of the gardening.

Tataru would also be happy to help Luna grow medicinal plants! She's been trying to learn about them here, anyways.

Yes! And Luna would be more than happy to help Tataru with her farm, too, especially if Tataru sounds like she knows what she's doing better than Luna does. Luna's only ever really worked with flowers, not crops.

Pretty much just help him plant some stuff. He is fine with trading fruit for labor! Or if she wanted to make something in return. He is not picky

HEY. so I figured Gobbet’ll need help rounding up the animals for milking and other cow-related activities. Laurent has a great deal of experience chasing animals around on his horse, would she like a hand?

He might also suggest herding the Cariborn to a location slightly easier to get to from the temple, but maybe after we find more grassland squares. rip

I mean frankly Tataru doesn't have too much experience with gardening at all, let alone farming. She's no botanist. But she has enthusiasm in heaps.

Ooh, Muffet would definitely be willing to help with both the building and the caring for them in exchange for milk. Given her magic, she'd also probably be a lot of help when it comes to rounding them up in the first place.

Muffet has a very large and carefully-maintained garden in and around her home on the islets, containing examples of edible plants from all over the island. She's willing to give people cuttings to start their own growths if asked.

Aside from his three guard Bludrocs (what the heck, ladies, please let the guy leave the house, okay?), Ignis' big contribution to farming comes from the coffee plants and seeds that Prompto was kind enough to get for him from the Storyteller. Several plants have been planted near the boys' cottage on Islet 1, and one has been sent over to Muffet's garden as well. There was also talk of either plants or seeds being planted on the E6 farmland too. Gotta make sure those lovely caffeine providers get spread all over the island so bad weather or other calamity doesn't wipe them out!

The first batch of plants were given with ripe berries, and as much as Iggy wants his coffee ASAP, many berries were cleaned and prepped to increase the stock of seeds they have for planting. Anyone who is interested in getting these hands on some seeds, let him know!

Coffee nut that he is, he can also give pretty good instructions on where to plant and how to tend to those seeds for whoever needs it.

Consider Sans down for collecting plants. I figure it'll be good practice trying to get the hang of this gardening thing, and if it fails, well. No big, right?

Also because Tataru's cute and I love FFXIV... :(

The elves are too lazy not built for physical work but they wanna get in on these efforts too. They can create all kinds of gardening tools, rakes, shovels, buckets and baskets, wheel barrows etc to your specifications (mainly from wood and stone right now, until we get access to those ores in the caves). They can create planks from trees for like, fences, sheds, barrels and so on. Basically you bring the raw materials and they'll turn them into whatever you need, for a price. You can hit up the store post for specific trades, or just contact us to handwave stuff.

Taako can levitate things, if you need something very heavy moved? But that's one of his three daily spell slots so that wouldn't be cheap. I guess fire isn't really useful for farming, so Lup won't be as helpful in this case.

They can also cook awesome creative meals out of your ingredients, substituting stuff you don't have with magic! And they can help with preserving food, they can cure and smoke meat and freeze things. Possibly they could look into making a communal refrigerator, which would be a huge stone box filled with ice that Taako refreezes once a day, lmao.

I don't know if we're going to do a building log or handwave the ordeal, but between Muffet, Hinata, and Roy we're going to have an actual honest to goodness cottage built in no time. I have to see if I can get Tim in on the deal, he has construction experience too.
