TEST DRIVE MEME ( 005 )
Test Drive Meme #5
Hello, and welcome to LifeAftr! We’re pleased that you’re expressing an interest in the game. Here, you can test the waters, gauge how your character may fare in the world of LifeAftr, and even gain some in-game incentives, if you so choose.
Remember that Reserves will open on November 17th and that Applications will open on November 24th!
Two important notes:

Remember that Reserves will open on November 17th and that Applications will open on November 24th!
1. LifeAFtr's test drives take place on the island of Mu, which exists apart from the real world and possesses a dream-like quality that characters are innately aware of from the moment they appear on its shores. No need to panic or fret. Dreams are odd things, after all - and anything can happen in them. Why would anyone question where their mind chooses to wander in its sleep?
2. Due to the nature of Mu, threads in our test drive can not only be accepted as thread samples in your application, but can be accepted as game canon as well. In fact, certain choices your character makes in Mu have the potential to bear in-game consequences, largely in the form of test drive reward items.

All That Glitters
The caves deep beneath the island's surface are not dimly lit; in fact, they practically sparkle with a strange, unearthly greenish light. Blame it on the crystalline growths that protrude plentifully from every nook and cranny, stalactites and stalagmites alike.
Their glow might be soothing to some, and viscerally terrifying to others, but one thing remains absolutely certain: based on the creaking, groaning noises of shifting rock and the high-pitched tinkle of breaking shards of crystal...
You aren't alone down here.

Formed entirely from crystal.
Upon spotting a living creature, each of them will begin to lurch closer and closer, arms outstretched. Every one is slow and cumbersome and even fragile enough to be smashed, if you dare venture close enough. But once they've trapped you, there is no escaping whatever fate they have in store for you.
And rest assured, it is not a pleasant one.
[The above prompt is a version of our Crystal Clear event from October! Feel free to give the event write-up a read for more information.]
It's High Tide
When you initially wake on the beaches of this strange island with its bleeding, dreamlike edges, you might notice that something seems deeply amiss...something like the fact that you're lying in a whole mess of seawater. Assuming you're not thoroughly soaked already, you'd better figure out a way to get to high ground, because the water level is rising very rapidly. Pretty soon, there might not be anywhere safe to go besides the trees, and even those might not be safe the longer this goes on.
Fortunately for you, if you can find them quickly enough, the island of Mu has helpfully provided some assistance for those who don't feel like doggy-paddling for the duration of the dream.

A Crappy Endeavor
In your travels on this strange new land, you might start to notice something following you. Something...oddly shaped, like a lot of dirt and clay that's consolidated into one great awkward moving lump of a creature. What lies beneath is far more like the common beetle...just much, much larger. And unfortunately for everyone involved, they have a very specific appetite:
Your poop.
Mu has produced a very close approximation of the creatures known as f'rshaymes, animals that go beyond merely being useful for disposing of all that nasty waste. Doiing so comes with significant benefits, as the combined process of mud and excrement as it goes through a F'rshayme's digestive system leaves behind pure clay for the...brave.
Often found in small herds of six to eight individuals, f'rshaymes are extremely docile and would be very easy to turn into a herd of your very own. How nice!

Crystals are forever! Until I smash them into dust
Off like a shot herself, Terra sprinted down the tunnels, following her senses that pinpointed the presence of other entities, human and not - and it wasn't a good sign seeing a bunch of them starting to block off someone's escape. She can't see Setsuna, but her attention was on the creatures anyway - drawing her sword she lunged at one from behind, her sword driving into one and shattering it, before she pivoted in the same motion to swing her sword into the next one, moving almost in a perfect 360 degrees. That one too meets the same fate as the first, piles of crystal all that remain of the abominations. That'll give them a small gap of an opening at least, but more are coming, she can feel them. She glances over her shoulder towards Setsuna. ]
Run!
no subject
She won't run off though. Instead she joins Terra, standing by her side with a determined look on her face.]
Thank you, but we leave together. Let's go!
[In no situation would she ever feel right in abandoning an ally, regardless of how long she's known them. Terra is no exception to this.]
no subject
All right, I'll be right behind you. [ She will too! Once SEtsuna started off, Terra turned once more just to swipe her sword at one of the crystal creatures starting to get near the two, then quickly sprinted after Setsuna. ]
Don't let your guard down - there are still more...!
no subject
[Close so she knows that Terra is still with her as they make their escape, and so she can warn or shield her if the need arises.
She moves as quick as she can manage through the caves, chakrams drawn and ready should the need arise. And true enough, as Terra said, there are more. Crystal monsters break free from the walls, blocking the tunnel ahead.
Setsuna hurls her chakrams, the thrown weapon slamming into one of the monsters, shattering it into pieces before both weapons return to her hands.]
There's so many of them. Why is this happening? [Are these creatures truly humans turned monsters? The vaguely humanoid shapes beneath the crystals makes it seem likely. The possibility alone is upsetting.]
no subject
I don't know. [ She admits this unhappily, unsettled at the mere existence of the creatures. She had the same thought at Setsuna, honestly - the caves were obviously inhabited at one point. It was entirely possible that those people who lived here were unaware of the crystals nature until it was too late, but instead of straight up dying, they may have turned into those... abominations. In which case the best thing Terra and Setsuna could even do for them is to destroy them. ]
I'm not certain I want to know.. I feel it may be an answer we don't want to hear. But my only guess is that they were roused by our presence here. I think we'll be fine as long as we can keep them from cutting us off. [ And that was a cakewalk between Setsuna's long range weapon and Terra's sword! ... god she hoped she didn't jinx themselves thinking that. ]
no subject
[And of course so they don't end up as victims to the creature's clutches.
If they truly once were human though then surely. Somehow. There must be a way to get through to them. A mercy killing no matter how necessary or deserving these monsters might be of one still annoys her. Nags at her. Death should never be the end all answer.]
Please, let us through! We won't bother you any longer.
[Of course her plea falls on deaf ears. The crystal monsters only ever keep plodding on, desperate to get their hands on the two of them. An emblem flashes beneath Setsuna, the shape of a snowflake appearing briefly before another bolt like before shatters more of the creatures and leaves the tunnel open for the time being. It likely won't be long before more show up.]
no subject
As Setsuna casts that bolt spell, shattering more of the creatures trying to block them, Terra has an idea. ]
Can you cast that spell again? Up there? [ Pointing at the ceiling of the tunnel. Hopefully it was weak enough that they could collapse part of the tunnel on their pursuers, and get more breathing room. The exit wasn't far now..! ]
