OOC INTRO: JANUARY

State of the Game
Hello again, islanders, and welcome newcomers! In December, the island of Chol made its debut, bringing with it dire hints as to the state of LifeAftr for the duration of January. We heavily encourage newcomers to read up on the specifics of Chol as linked above, as this will be relevant in the intro log. We've loved the feedback we've gotten about the game thus far, positive and negative, and encourage you to contact us whenever you feel it is necessary!

Our intro log will be going up on the comms on January 5th. Until then, a few quick points:

1. Deaths. Remember that, in the event that your character perishes, to let us know so that we can take a note of it, whether or not it counts for your character's total death count! If you're having trouble thinking of a penalty, we can definitely provide one for you. Remember to use the Deaths page for Death Penalty removal as well, once that time is up! An event in the latter half of January will come with a high risk of death, meaning that the span of time for death penalties will be significantly reduced

2. AC. We would also like to take this opportunity to remind people to tag their characters in the comms. This is the only compulsory form of AC we have, but after the first few months, we are going to stop warning people for forgetting to tag their character. Characters who fail AC will be swept. An additional reminder, also, to make use of the drop post should your time with LifeAftr come at an end instead of simply idling out!

3. Additional goodies. Newcomes showed up with some extra treats in their knapsacks, to better prepare them for the cold and dark days ahead. This should have been noted in everyone's acceptance notices! Please let us know if, for some reason or another, you didn't receive these particular goods.

In the meantime, feel free to use this post as an OOC intro and CR meme for the month of January - for new players to introduce themselves, for old players to meet and greet, and for general plotting to occur! Tell us about yourself: I'm a deaf transgender woman currently living in a group home for teaching deaf adults with mental health issues independent living skills. That's the most interesting stuff about my situation, really. I've roleplayed since childhood, and I love it. I also do a bunch of tabletop roleplaying, and you'll often see chatter on my plurk about the two tabletop games I run.

Permissions: Mindreading permissions and general stuff. Basically Darja has mindreading she can't turn off, so permissions are super important for playing her! It's fine if you say no to her mindreading!
Tell us about them: Darja is basically a transgender teen telepath, though she doesn't get involved in superpowered crime fighting or anything (actually, she's planning on becoming a scientist). She's been raised as a girl for most of her life, so her experiences are quite different from my own. She's often direct and also a shitposter sometimes, but she deliberately avoids hurting people with it. She's been privy to others' thoughts for also nearly her whole life, so, yeah, that's hugely impacted her.
Current plans: She's basically a modern city teen thrown into a survival scenario. Someone help her. Other than that any and all CR is welcome, positive or negative! I'm especially interested in having her meet nonhumans and people with weird powers because other than the existence of a dream world full of weirdo dream denizens and there being rare people with mind-altering powers, her world's fairly mundane. Though it's very very much an alternative history because of how those two factors've hugely impacted things... But I disgress!

Tell us about them: Nutty mercenary with a healing factor who struggles every day to rid the world of the stereotype that Canadians are nice, well-adjusted people. Hero with a heapin' helping of anti. He's also amazingly handsome and an absolute tiger in the sack... ladies.*

Okay fo'real-- Wade's basically a chewy nougat of insecurity and abandonment issues wrapped around a layer of witty quips and pop culture references. He's a dual CRAU coming in from havenrpg and sol_raveh, so he's been trying to reconcile his sudden bouts of heroism and compassion with his desire to push people away as a defense mechanism (making friends is hard when you know they'll all die someday and you won't haha...ha), so he's still very conflicted as a result. Expect him to be shallowly funny to a fault until you really get to know him and his inner demons. Deep down, the dude's a mess.

Mickey Mouse is a musketeer from a DTV no one saw, and technically part of the KH lore. He's great with a sword and despite having gone through some major trauma he still thinks we can all get along (storyteller included) and that they'll find a way off the island and back home any day now! He's also learned some magic and would love to learn more! In fact, he wants to learn all the things - sign language, house building, horse riding, TEACH THEM EVERYTHING.

He wants to be your best friend even if you hate his guts. Free hugs always available.

Current plans: Thanks to a misunderstanding, he plans on building some boats. May or may not kill him during the NO SUN shenanigans, convince me one way or another. Also I keep forgetting for him to actually wish for stuff, go me.

Tell us about them:
Yuka is a trans magical girl OC who joined last month! Her special abilities while transformed (she's always transformed) include super strength, healing, amplifying other people's physical attributes, and a bit of knitting. Currently she is living with her OC canonmate/team leader/girlfriend Kyouko, and has just been kind of taking it easy the last couple weeks after making it back to what passes for civilization these days.

Current plans:
After resurrecting a bunch of emotional hangups thanks to the memory event, Yuka probably does need to get out more. Her only active ongoing thing is learning to make clothes from Muffet and Tataru, so some kind of further ongoing projects or reasons to go out into the wilderness would not be amiss. Later in the month, she's gonna be overworking herself into a crisis trying to keep people safe and healthy during the darkness event, but until them I'm wide open.

Yuka is curious about other people and their homeworlds but perpetually nervous about prying, so more open/socially forward people are better for getting her talking a lot. She wants to help the community, but isn't sure what the best way to help is. She wants to learn how to dance.

Tell us about them: Gobbet is an ork from the Shadowrun universe, specifically the game Shadowrun: Hong Kong. She's 19 and a cool bean, come get cr with your favorite food obsessed, rat-loving, magic-using gal! No but for real, she's very laid back and loves adventuring. She has a sweet scouting bonus that gives her scouting parties extra resources, so take her with you!

Current plans: I always want more CR with Gobbet, so feel free to approach me or her with plans or scenarios you want to play out. Currently she's hanging around Chol and trying to help prepare the Jormun for a little dirty fighting. Traps, ambush spots, that sort of thing. She occasionally makes her way back to the mainland of Enso to check on her tiny garden and nap in her hammock. She also just got two sweet pet rats named Echo and Trinity.

Current plans: Well the last storytelling event kind of sucked for Crow here towards the end, but he's determined not to let it get to him. And for a guy like him, this means being more obnoxious and louder than usual so he might be seen bouncing around and bothering people he sees, whether or not he knows who they are. However he may also slip into old habits of stealing things that don't belong to him, so don't leave your pack or valuables somewhere out in the open?

Current plans: she's gonna put that fire magic to good use keeping the temple warm for any passersby or people whose shitty islet shacks aren't holding up to the weather. I will probably put up a mingle post for that some time this month! once the fighting starts, she's gonna be first in line. she will also be in talks with the Storyteller to provide everyone with Stones of Farspeech, which are basic fantasy phones. she'll need a LOT of favors for that, so she'll try to rally support for it on the Network Rock once she's figured out the specifics with the ST. Tell us about yourself: Hello, I am Roxy!! I play Ammy here, resident dog and sun goddess from the game Okami, and YA BOY, GUZMA, from Pokemon Sun and Moon (game). I am 29 years old, go by she/her pronouns, and I am so excited to get to play with all the newbies here, hhhh, y'all are awesome, I am super excited about so many people. I live on the east coast USA so my timezone is EST. I work fulltime so my schedule is a bit busy for most weekdays but I have time after to RP and chat. I like animes, though I haven't picked up new things in a while, Pokemon and Okami, obviously...I play a lot of video games mostly from Nintendo (pokemon, zelda, mario, etc.) but I also love Tales of games and some other RPG games as well.
Character: Ammy (mamaterasu) and Guzma (yallstupid). Ammy is a literal wolf and my muter character, though I play her as being full capable of speech, but chooses not to for her own various reasons. She's the nicer of my characters - friendly, sweet, kind, mothering, but also can be sassy, somewhat rude, gross (she doesn't bathe and her breath reeks like hot garbage), and lazy af. She's also a glutton and will beg for food, or steal it. Monch.

Guzma is, well...he's gotten better from what he was. Since he's pretty much endgame, he's calmed down a bit from his big, mean, angry self. He's a big soft dog, growly only when he gets riled up. Which, uh....isn't hard to do, sadly. He had a big temper and a very short fuse. He's a hoodlum with a checkered past (es, in a pokemon game. I'M SURPRISED TOO) so be certain to keep an eye on cw warning in my tag titles and stuff. Mainly they will be self depreciation, self harm, physical violence, and child/physical abuse. Guzma is a very bitter, angry person because of events in his past, and when he gets mad, he gets MAD, so please be aware. I will always talk to people about this though, so yes. He's not all bad, but he is a kindasorta villain(???) character in his game. Just keep that in mind. CR with him is hit and miss sometimes.

I may mention offhandedly Guzma finished patching up his freaking roof FINALLY, and I want him to learn to use a gun and/or a bow (probably bow first, since he's not comfortable around guns right now). He also knows a bit of sign language thanks to some very Determined children teaching him. Tell us about them: Commander Shepard is an elite space marine from the far distant future where she had to save the entire galaxy from the oncoming Reaper threat and lost her life in the end to do so. She's now been carving out a life here in LifeAftr and been adjusting... rather better now that she has friends but she's been keeping a lot of her trauma and hangups to herself and other than talking broadly about home, hasn't clued pretty much anyone in to the greater things that have happened to her.
Current plans: Closer CR! Positive, negative, I'm fine with both! I'd love for her to do more exploration since she hasn't as of late because of RL getting in the way of me RPing. But also, more characters she can talk to and sympathize with over War Being Hell and all that! And I'm always open to new CR because she's a social butterfly and so am I lol.
