OOC INTRO: JANUARY

State of the Game
Hello again, islanders, and welcome newcomers! In December, the island of Chol made its debut, bringing with it dire hints as to the state of LifeAftr for the duration of January. We heavily encourage newcomers to read up on the specifics of Chol as linked above, as this will be relevant in the intro log. We've loved the feedback we've gotten about the game thus far, positive and negative, and encourage you to contact us whenever you feel it is necessary!

Our intro log will be going up on the comms on January 5th. Until then, a few quick points:

1. Deaths. Remember that, in the event that your character perishes, to let us know so that we can take a note of it, whether or not it counts for your character's total death count! If you're having trouble thinking of a penalty, we can definitely provide one for you. Remember to use the Deaths page for Death Penalty removal as well, once that time is up! An event in the latter half of January will come with a high risk of death, meaning that the span of time for death penalties will be significantly reduced

2. AC. We would also like to take this opportunity to remind people to tag their characters in the comms. This is the only compulsory form of AC we have, but after the first few months, we are going to stop warning people for forgetting to tag their character. Characters who fail AC will be swept. An additional reminder, also, to make use of the drop post should your time with LifeAftr come at an end instead of simply idling out!

3. Additional goodies. Newcomes showed up with some extra treats in their knapsacks, to better prepare them for the cold and dark days ahead. This should have been noted in everyone's acceptance notices! Please let us know if, for some reason or another, you didn't receive these particular goods.

In the meantime, feel free to use this post as an OOC intro and CR meme for the month of January - for new players to introduce themselves, for old players to meet and greet, and for general plotting to occur! If you want to chat or keep up with game updates, we also have both a plurk and a discord channel!

Tell us about them:

TIM is CRAU'd in from sol_raveh which means he hangs around a lot with fellow solumni Chara and Frisk. He's kind of surly and kind of grumbly, but his heart's in the right place and like it or not he's forming attachments the longer he sticks around.

THE DRIFTER is a silent, blue-skinned wanderer suffering from an incurable illness. They primarily communicate via text and sign language. While their (fragile, dying) heart is in the right place for the most part, their bluntness and direct nature can sometimes make them off-putting.

GABE is a very horrible boy, a dramatic baby who somehow keeps finding ways to be intensely jealous and lashy-outy at people for seemingly no reason. He's equal parts bitter and charming, intuitive and deeply irrational, and above all? He is completely and utterly childish. Please call him the fuck out. It gives me life.

Current plans:

TIM, this month, is working on building some shit and, potentially, organizing shit. As of his most recent post, he has about 20 flare guns - newbies or oldbies who want a means of signalling emergency help can handwave or thread out getting one from him if you want!

THE DRIFTER is finally realizing that Oh Shit They've Gotten Attached to people and are ready to walk through hell and back for them. That being said, they're still learning the meaning of uh fucking teamwork so there might be a lot of "runs off to do thing on their own and promptly gets their 5 HP-ass ass kicked" during January.......so thats Good

GABE is gonna get his ass whupped. He is still under the impression that he's this immortal shitbaby who only exists as an idealogical construct of repressed mourning, and this is ding dong wrong. Tell us about them: Muffet is a magical spider monster from the video game Undertale, who mostly spends her time trying to intimidate people into buying her (also magical) baked goods in order to raise money for her fellow spiders. ...This cause has not been strictly relevant in LifeAftr, seeing as how she's the only spider monster here that we know of, so she's mostly been trying to help out her fellow castaways instead.
She's also finding out there was a lot more going on in her home world than she ever realized...

But no, seriously, Muffet's main goal at the moment is to help as many people as she can not freaking die. This is mostly going to involve offering food, healing, warm clothing, and some helpful advice about the things on the islands that can kill you. It's... it's a lot of things.
She also has a lot of questions about the nature of the gods and LifeAftr in general, so I'm happy to be involved in any metaplot going on. :D

Tell us about them: Mira is a mage who just recently got back from a canon update, and while she's kind and loyal she has a ton of baggage and is somewhat prone to recklessness. However, she's a gifted healer, and genuinely likes to help people. And she hunts!

Goro Akechi has been here a few months, and he's currently trying to reconcile the arrival of a castmate. He's polite and friendly, if sort of abrasive sometimes. He can also summon something called a Persona, and he can do a fair bit of damage with it.
Current plans: Mira is currently doing her best to find additional resources--I may have her venture over to Monsun's more resource-rich side. If anyone'd like to join her, I'm game. Other than that, she likes to train sometimes and she can offer healing to anyone who needs it. Perhaps magic lessons? During the event she's going to probably almost die so that'll be fun. But other than that I'm just winging it, y'all.

Akechi is going to take it easy, gather information, perhaps toss up a thing on the magic rock? A survey? Who knows, he's a nosy little shit. During the event he'll probably be trying not to die, and then awkwardly have to deal with Akira. That's fun. Again, I'm just winging it. o7

Asgore is a very large soft goat-lion-monster man who has at least two children here already, though he doesn't know it. He's CRAU'd from Trusfell, which was a murdergame, so you know that was a good time for everybody. He'll probably talk about some of his CR from that game, especially right after his arrival, but I don't think there's any characters here who were there, so it shouldn't really be an issue. I'll ping you if I realize there's canonmates or something.

(I'm pretty sure all the Sol Raveh people here know he knew a version of Rin? That happened.)

Current plans: Asgore's plans will probably be to befriend people and help prepare for the upcoming time of darkness, but honestly everything that's in his head will immediately go out the window when he realizes his dead kids are around. And also the kid he tried to kill a lot.

• this month's plot involves danger. she's good at fighting danger! she can't really help much with the cold though.


• creativity is a Big Thing with the jormun, and clementine used to be pretty damn hype about drawing. granted, this was like... two years and multiple stints in both apocalyptic america and semi-apocalyptic haven ago, but i feel like someone should definitely plant the idea in her head to try and make friends via offerings of art? Permissions: Sonje is an ordinary human with no special permission requiring powers. The only unusual thing she has is an enchanted shield that deflects magic, causing it to ricochet wildly. I made this thing though.
Tell us about them: After her family was sent into dishonor and poverty by a rival noble house, Sonje took up her grandfather's adventuring gear and set out to try and seek her fortune as a wandering mercenary knight before her family went COMPLETELY bankrupt. She hasn't gotten rich yet, but she's always hoping that maybe the NEXT job will involve a dragon's horde. She ended up working with a penniless light mage/archaeologist and a dimensionally misplaced tourist from Earth.

Sonje is incredibly focused and driven when she has to overcome physical hardships and focus on survival, but she becomes a self-conscious mess in social situations. She will headbutt a troll while screaming one day, then hide in the corner of a party while stuttering awkwardly the next. She's also very gay and very thirsty.
Current plans: Looking for attractive women in their mid 20s to early 30s for her to awkwardly crush on, fellow adventuring types for her to fight side by side with, people from Earth she can ask weird questions to (she knows of Earth, but has never been there, you see). Tell us about them: The protagonist of the video game OFF. Stoic to the point of near emotionless but is currently trying to work on that (and kind of failing). Still fails to have a sense of humor and is nowhere near as chill as that icon suggests. Can't human for the life of him.

Current plans: Fresh off of the Memory Event, setting his positive CR with Ren on fire and getting punched in the stomach, the Batter is actively trying to learn how emotions work and how to live in general without trying to think up ways for the island and himself to die. So this time around getting positive CR with him will be slightly more easier but expect him to fuck it up at some point. And as always, those with negative CR may find the Batter looks a little different to them.

Tell us about them:

Tataru can't fight but she can apparently do almost everything else. One of about 3 (by last estimates) functional adults in the game. While she is missing home a bit, she's been adjusting really well to LifeAftr by offering all kinds of services - logistics, sewing, gossip, sewing, gardening, and sewing. A member of the LifeAftr Knitting Club. She's still trying to learn more skills to add to her repertoire, except fighting. She tried that once, it went badly. So she'll leave all the adventuring to you lot and make sure you have someone to make you food and patch up your clothes when you get home.

For Xion was first a clonechild from one of the saddest installments of Kingdom Hearts, then got sent to a helltower (towerofanimus) where characters went through the grinder on the regular. In both cases, she deserved better. Meanwhile in LifeAftr, she's... adjusting. The memoryshare event helped her open up to a few people but it also kind of forced a very messy emotional breakdown that was inevitable but... rather ill-timed and wrapped up in a lot of other trauma, so it wasn't addressed as well as it could have been and might become a more long-term hangup. That being said, she's used to nexus environments and survival situations, so on the practical side of things, she's holding up well.

Current plans:

Starting with Xion here because I polled around and so far, nobody else has really... stepped forward to organize the whole group about this Sun Dying thing. So unless anybody else plans to (PLEASE TELL ME IF YOU ARE SO I CAN ADJUST THIS), she will be a couple days after the IC intro. Her main goals with that will be consolidating people into groups of combatants and non-combatants, coordinating some with the Jormun to some extent, making sure any non-combatants are out of the way and protected, and making sure supplies are stockpiled. If anybody wants to take over any parts of these, she'll be happy to let them. She's not exactly comfortable leading, she's mainly doing this because nobody else has done it yet and "every man for himself" seems like a bad idea. Also please come meet her cheerful rainbow catpuppy

And now for Tataru... she's... AWKWARD AS THIS IS she's probably going to want to pick up the logistics/stockpiling side of things in aforementioned plan. IF ANYBODY WANTS TO TAKE OVER THIS TOO lemme know please. Otherwise when I put up the Xion post Tataru will probably post to take over that and... Xion'll let her without comment. Besides that, she will be working overtime with her new sewing machine and stockpile of clothing supplies to make as many clothes for people as possible. She won't be charging for them, especially as the need becomes more dire, but please - make sure she doesn't starve, now or down the road. MORE LONG TERM - she is thinking of trying to build a small restaurant/cafe sort of place where people can gather and eat. Neko and I are working on the thread now but she's talked to Ignis about this plan, although it'll take time to build and get all the materials needed, obviously. If anybody wants in on this plan, lemme know!

Chip Abaroa is a perfectly normal, if traumatized, child that just so happens to have a bit of demonic heritage. They have a short temper if pushed, but they're really a very sweet kid and are eager to help out where they can. They're currently living with Asriel, and their aunt is coming in this app round!

Edward Elric is a guy that just cannot get a break. He's CRAU from Ryslig, so he's been turned into a fursona and gained about +20 aggressive instinct on top of his already stellar patience. He might act like a dick half the time, but he's not nearly so monstrous as his appearance would lead you to believe.

Current plans:

Chip is going to be hunkering down and trying to stay out of the fighting. If they're needed for any kind of support role, they'll do what they can, but...they chil. Smol bab.

Ed is going to be (or has, I'm...not very up to date rn) using his favors to request weapons and/or shelter for the coming Sundown Showdown, and is very much ready to be up in the thick of the fighting. If you need someone that can throw a car and doesn't need a flashlight to get around, he's your guy.

Ox is one of the Zodiac Warriors of his world. Essentially, he's tasked to fight in wars until he dies. (laughs) All the other Zodiac members have some supernatural capability (e.g. flying, almost impenetrable skin, etc). Ox doesn't have any supernatural ability -- he just is the apex of all human physical capabilities. He's honestly pretty chill outside of battle, and tends to be rather almost exceptionally cordial to people which off-sets how he is fighting.

Current plans: Super new character for me so I'm just attempting to figure out his voice and go from there. I hope to be able to have positive and negative CR. He's the kind of person that tends to make people not fully understand him 'cause his way of thinking is kind of out there.

Erika is a big gay werewolf who's used to working as hired muscle/generally solving her problems with violence. She is also the already-present Chip Abaroa's aunt (technically their first cousin once removed but no way is either of them going to say all those words).

Ginko is a very tired furry rock monster who used to be a magic pest control guy. He is in desperate need of a nap at all times but there's stuff to do so fuck that.

Current plans:

Erika is very new, so at this point she's just gotta like... meet people who aren't Chip, figure out where she's staying, get used to being In Nature all the time and not living in a city, etc. She will be PRETTY PISSED about showing up right as all this with the sun his happening. Also she's pretty much always up for Fights.

Ginko will be trying to help prepare for Sunpocalypse as best he can and, as always, worrying over Every Child. On top of that the likely arrival of his crush from his last game will probably kick him into WORRY OVERDRIVE so THAT'S gonna be fun, because everyone needs a low-key panicking troll in their lives.

he's also King Hard-Ass. if you're looking for a guy who's gonna be someone to lean on and give you unconditional support, you might want to look somewhere else. Frisk is a quiet kid who used to have limited time-traveling powers, but no mo' of that shit. They have a knife and know how to use it, albeit somewhat reluctantly, and they're CRAU'd out of Sol Raveh, in which they tried to... erase themself from existence? It didn't work. Currently going under the alias "Kittu" to most, Frisk tries not to get too attached to people but valiantly fail at every turn. Pun with them, or like, just smile at them sort of vaguely in their direction and they'll love you for life.

Ichimatsu is your average 20-something Japanese man who would probably shop at hot topic if there was one here. His excessive negativity and weird slasher persona more or less covers for the fact that his heart is literally made of glass or something. A bit of a textbook tsundere with some genuine issues under all his casual nihilism, but some parts of him are soft. Some. If you're a cat or a cute kid, at least. Please destroy him anyway.

Current plans: I've been a bit out of things, so I'm mostly hoping to ease back in! Frisk is likely going to be sticking close to Chara and looking to help, especially other kids, and that includes taking up their knife if they have to. Ichimatsu is less inclined to altruism and will likely be hunkering down with his kitten and brother for the most part, making sure they're all safe -- but he'll have to venture out now and then for food and to check on a couple others.

I am super open to both positive and negative CR with both; teamups, huddling for warmth, ill-timed scrabbling, come at me lovelies

Tell us about them: Ritsuka is serious but also very sweet 12 year old boy. He comes from canon that has underground spell battles, true names and fated partners. It's all confusing mess and Ritsuka is trying to find his footing there while also solving a mystery behind his brother's traumatic death.

He is pretty withdrawn kid with tons of trust issues, especially when it comes to adults. In his experience they're mostly selfish, childish and can't take care of themselves! He might come off as blunt and distant but he tries his best and is actually very nice and gentle. :)

Current plans: Since he is new here I'll be focusing on getting him started in the setting. He could definitely use friends -- Ritsuka tends to get along with various kinds of people (especially those who have questionable world views and morals). Also he might need an adult and help with getting food and housing? :(

First reactions: he's going to be upset that his phone and camera suffered a water damage! Both items are very important to him. How else is he going to take pictures (He has severe anxiety about forgetting and uses selfies pictures to keep tabs on reality). Also there's going to be culture shock and he'll be uncomfortable once he realizes that no one else seems to have cat ears and a tail.

Tell us about them: Isette is technically a mage, but is mostly useless because all she can do is make lights. Ironically, she comes in right as the sun goes out, so people will think she is more useful than she actually is. She's mostly an academic though, and is the head of the history/archeology department in the biggest school in the kingdom, and is fully prepared to geek the fuck out over ancient ruins and languages. Send her to explore your ruins but give her a bodyguard because she useless in a fight.
OH. AND UH, she's from a fantasy world, but it's. A weird one. Because it had an ancient civilization that... used modern English. So she's spent years studying modern English, as a dead language used a thousand years ago.
Current plans: Once the lights are back on and people are less likely to die, she's really going to want to explore any ruins you guys have. She is actually pretty good at that sort of stuff so maybe she can help, you know, piece together some history. Also she'll geek out over anybody from modern Earth, especially ones that use English.

He's also on an unofficial mission to fluster Goro Akechi because someone takes his challenges too seriously.
Current plans: Not Freezing to Death and going on more explorations while he can see two feet in front of his face in natural daylight. Tell us about them: Rey's a desert orphan child with a destiny and sweet Force powers, who finally got off her planet to engage in space fights and be stalked by masked villains. So basically Luke v2.0. She's also going to stare at green forest scenery like it's the most beautiful fucking thing she's ever seen. She's going to die in this jungle. RIP. Too much green. System overload--is what I would say, but I guess someone decided to blanket everything in this... snoooow substance. So good luck with that, I guess. Rey's still going to die. RIP. What is cold. Current plans: I think I accidentally outlined most of my 'plans' in my rambling, BUT... Seriously, she's going to need help adapting to cold. This is not her forte. She was in snow all of once and probably had zero time to process it because she was busy trying not to be impaled by a lightsaber. She also has flour, which she's going to add to water thinking it's normal rations and be confused when it doesn't cook itself. Someone please teach her things. She'll pay you back. She's a very versatile mechanic. So she'll also trade things for unwanted/broken electronics, so she can start making useful stuff. There's a possessions post for her here, if you want to look over what she has!

Rey also still has issues with projecting her Missing Parents issue onto virtually any somewhat-experienced adult that's nice to her. Or could be perceived as being nice to her. Or might come around to being nice to her if she manages to prove herself.

So what I'm saying is, feel free to start that queue here. It's going to be a long one.
