OOC INTRO: JULY

State of the Game
Welcome, newcomers, and hello again to the oldcomers! June saw our adventurers take a much-needed break from their shenanigans back in May; killing a god will take a lot out of you! But now, the latest voting session during the Storytelling must be taken into account. It was a close call, but islanders voted in favor of the island that contains ore.

You can look forward to more information regarding the island you've chosen appearing in our OOC comm soon!

We've loved the feedback we've gotten about the game thus far, positive and negative, and encourage you to contact us whenever you feel it is necessary!

Our intro log will be going up on the comms on July 5th. Until then, a few quick points:

1. Deaths. Remember that, in the event that your character perishes, to let us know so that we can take a note of it, whether or not it counts for your character's total death count! If you're having trouble thinking of a penalty, we can definitely provide one for you. Remember to use the Deaths page for Death Penalty removal as well, once that time is up!

2. AC. We've recently switched to the ACSavior tool! This means that, while we no longer require that you tag your characters in the comms to have your AC counted, we strongly recommend it for housekeeping purposes! Characters who fail AC will be swept. We will also be following up with players who are getting consistent strikes or regularly passing with the bare minimum. An additional reminder, also, to make use of the drop post should your time with LifeAftr come at an end instead of simply idling out; it helps us out a lot!

In the meantime, feel free to use this post as an OOC intro and CR meme for the month of July - for new players to introduce themselves, for old players to meet and greet, and for general plotting to occur! If you want to chat or keep up with game updates, we also have a plurk for the purpose of making mod announcements. We also have a game discord channel, which you are welcome to join!

- The Knight is very small and tired and a literal mute and Ready To Fight if the need arises, which is apparently like all the time. They're learning how to be a person after someone finally thought to ask them questions about like

anything. So that's exciting!! They're always ready to make new acquaintances too because sharing is caring.

- Papyrus is the EXACT OPPOSITE of the knight except in his enthusiasm to make friends with people. He is VERY tall and VERY loud and VERY enthusiastic and has more than a few people here he'll greet with EVEN MORE ENTHUSIASM THAN NORMAL.
(Sorry I am not making him eight feet tall, he's gonna be about six feet so still tall but not ridiculously so)
And also he actually has casual clothes, which is a shocker. (Ignore the delta rune patch i'll make a proper ref for him later.) I'm gonna be a bit wobbly with him until i get used to his voice, so please bear with me if he sounds weird, let me know if i do anything horribly wrong. I'll be setting up a HMD for him in a bit.

Current plans:
For the Knight: nothing much, just continuing to greet people and explore and figure out who knows how to speak ASL. And fight things, that too.

Papyrus: Settling in, mostly! Getting used to the place and wandering around and greeting all the people he knows with ENTHUSIASM. Do you want a super gung-ho skeleton on your hands? Well, you're gonna get one.

Tell us about them:

TIM is a some dude from a web series called Marble Hornets (aka that one slender man webseries that Started It All) and a CRAU from sol_raveh. Depressed chain-smoker with arsonist tendencies that have now become less "tendencies" and more "default survival mechanisms." Has somehow become the island's Birthday Distributor if you happen to not know what your birthday is, and is in the process of unwittingly adopting a great deal of children. He's chock-full of mental health shit so feel free to give me a poke if there's anything that gets a little too Real. In general he's just...very tired, very hard on himself, but he means well, usually. He's also taken to setting things on fire when he doesn't know how to deal with them, so that's good.

THE DRIFTER is from an indie game called Hyper Light Drifter because obscure canons are, apparently, My Business. Silent, blue-skinned wanderer who communicates via sign language and/or a little bobbing sprite thing that hovers by their shoulder and projects text. They're suffering from an incurable terminal illness and learning what it is to live in a world where people Aren't Fantasy Racist. They've made a lot of wonderful friends tho, and are...perhaps more impressionable than they realize, picking up certain forms of speech and body language from the people they trust and hang around most often c:

AGENT WASHINGTON is from a web show called Red vs. Blue, which is a halo-based machinima about colorful space soldiers thats funny until it stops being funny and starts being really fucking sad. he's a space marine who just needs a fucking nap, honestly. in general, he's pretty dependable in a crisis, is a highly accomplished killer, and has a hell of a Traumatic Past. but he's getting better, kinda. he's not happy that he's not with his team anymore, but he also has faith in them to make it just fine without his interference at this point. ain't that a bitch?

Current plans:

TIM has just opened Denny. LifeAftr's one and only restaurant. Let me know if you wanna work there! Mostly he’s just trying to be weirdly social? ITS STRANGE. he’s bad at it.

THE DRIFTER currently has no outstanding plans. They’ll be first in line to explore the new land when it pops up though! They are also teaching sign language for anyone who's interested in learning that. Might be useful. You never know.

WASH is still adjusting? I haven't really got any plans for him yet lol. He’s living with cast mate CT atm. You can probably catch him like patrolling semi regularly because you can take the man out of the space military but you can’t take the space military out of the insomniac disaster, as it were.

Permissions: Yellowfang has some BULLSHIT CAT EMPATHY MAGIC that was literally never mentioned throughout the entire first arc but the Erins saw fit to give her in her Super Edition for some reason. Its a simple opt-out form if you don't want her being nosy and feelin your characters' physical pain.

Tell us about them: She's a feral cat from a society of feral cats that have an intense cat religion and sometimes actual magic. She used to be the cat equivalent of a cleric (receiving visions of the future, communing with the dead, and healing other cats with herbs) but in LifeAftr she's cut off from her ancestors and no longer receives visions from them. This has made her really salty considering she's from her death point and is obviously not in Cat Heaven or Cat Hell.

She's also super weirded out by all the Twolegs that can now speak perfect cat language but still say all their stupid Twoleg words. Yellowfang's slowly being introduced to concepts like "a backpack" and "planets" and is trying to distract herself from how upset she is over no longer having access to StarClan by putting these concepts to use.

Current plans:

Character: Troupe Master Grimm | fireindreams

Permissions: Here. There is also a spoiler opt-out if you don't want to be spoiled for Hollow Knight, the Grimm Troupe DLC or both.

Tell us about them: The theatrical Master of the Grimm Troupe and one of the more rage-inducing boss battles of Hollow Knight. He has a flair for the dramatics and is basically a bug version of Dracula without being up to his eyeballs in Belmonts. It's also heavily implied Grimm knows a lot more of the world of Hollownest then he is letting on and has connections to nightmares. Many connections. Grimm Background DLC please Team Cherry.

He will be arriving in LifeAftr just before the Knight uses the Dream Nail on him to begin the Nightmare King battle. Grimm also has a child with the Knight called the Grimmchild but he'll have to talk to the Storyteller to bring that in.

Current plans: Grimm is new so I'd be happy to receive any sort of CR you'd like to bring to the table :D

Tell us about them:Shion was a naive elite child from a perfect city who got liberated by an overdramatic jerk, had an incident with a parasite bee which turned his hair white and his eyes red, learned about the Real World TM but before he could continue his journey of learning how everything was awful he got whisked away to a Horror Tower towerofanimus and spent two and a half years learning that... well yes everything was awful. The characters there achieved end game but instead of going home to fix things and save his friend he ended up here instead.

And here has been interesting. As it stands Shion has come to the conclusion that he is probably an awful person despite trying hard not to be and that he is dangerous and will end up hurting those he cares about. He is generally friendly though, can pretend to be not a messed up puppy long enough to have a decent conversation. The last month has been spent mostly taking part in wildlife preservation. He loves plants and animals, will babble on about science forever if you let him and will share theories about what might be going on.
Current plans: He will definitely be finalising the clinic he and Hinata have been working on this month. Probably more science (what does happen if you lure a flustercluck into a centre of gravity?) He is always up for exploring and a new island will mean a lot to explore.

Also he's CRAU from Ryslig so he is now a spidertaur. LifeAftr is going to honestly be a vacation for the poor dude.

Tell us about them: CT's been here about a month and is adjusting...about as well as can be expected? She's a murdergame transplant (Airlocked CRAU), and while there she met and started dating Varric Tethras from Dragon Age. She was in Thedas before coming to LifeAftr and still misses Varric a lot. Kirkwall, not so much...
Current plans: I love both positive and negative CR - CT can be prickly and stubborn, and sometimes has trouble keeping her spirits up, but she's trying! And she always needs more friends. Current plans are mostly just to keep working on fixing up her shack on Islet 4 and meet new people - I'd love to have her get out and explore a bit, too.

CR hooks include anyone who can help with home sweet shack improvement/DIY stuff, anyone with a tie to her Airlocked buddies, anyone who looks like they might be from Thedas (hey elves what's up), anyone who can teach her to cook something besides fire-roasted bludroc because man that gets boring.

Tell us about them: Legion is a robot from Mass Effect. For those who know canon, they're from their bad end, and are more than a little bitter about being betrayed and murdered. People on this island have been super nice to them though, which has helped quite a bit.
Current plans: Now that they've begun to see that not everyone here is out to get them, they'll be more willing to join searches and stuff. They also have a house they're fixing up, and would be willing to offer that service to others.

Aside from that, I'm interested in strengthening their current cr as well as meet new people.

Current plans: Pyrrha's still settling in on Islet 4, where she's living with her gf Nari. Gotta get used to this place, gotta meet new people, GOTTA EXPLORE! So she's definitely going to be checking out the new island when she can.

Tell us about them: This is not the Shinji-centric, cryptic, omnipotent-and-omniscient seeming Kaworu you grew up on. Not yet, anyway. Right now, though, this is the Kaworu of the early Sadamoto manga. You may know him as the Kaworu who gave Shinji mouth-to-mouth (the "kiss"), or the Kaworu who killed a kitten. He has mere days of experience with being awake and alive, is indifferent to his own existence at BEST, and no one ever explained to him what a pervert was after that one time he walked into the girl's bathroom to talk to Asuka. His being human is a scam he is running very poorly, and honestly he's a pretty obnoxious and inhuman 'person.'
Current plans: Kaworu has no idea what he's doing, no interest in knowing what he's doing, and no plans to do anything with whatever he may learn. I'm just gonna let him blunder into things and annoy people (or endear himself to them?) as he goes, call it character development or something. Don't be afraid to let CR turn negative, I'm great with negative CR but positive CR might teach him to suck less at a faster rate, who knows.

Tell us about them: Foster is a nine-foot-tall bear-mushroom-horse-cow-man suffering from a combination of fae influence and pretty serious psychosis. In his home canon he was a necromancer with a progressive neurodegenerative condition who raised himself with an impossible moebius necromancer-and-undead soul loop. He stopped being undead ages ago and actually lost a chunk of his existing brain damage to Herbert West (the Reanimator) in his last game, but hasn't changed his behaviour at all, possibly because of all the fae magic and maladaptive personality bullshit. He has a lot of opinions about death and control and reality and so on, all of which he refuses to stop projecting on everybody else.
Current plans: Foster is radiating psychosis less intensely now that he's had time to cool off after Ziziphus, which means that it's much easier to talk to him. I don't really have any plans for him at the moment besides building on his existing CR, making new CR, that kind of thing. He's extremely weak to iron because of the fae changes to his soul, though, so the ore island might get interesting.

Tell us about them: Shepard is a space marine that gave her life to save the galaxy from some giant mechanical squids and ended up here as a result. She's adjusted as much as a woman who is used to non-stop fighting can on an island that is (most of the time) rather safe, which means she's restless and antsy. Despite all that though she's managed to make some friends and even start to like some people (coughLupcough) romantically. Which has been quite a bizarre thing for her in all honesty.
Current plans: Honestly my current plans are to get my ass back in gear with tags in general but I would love love love more CR! As well as more search requests. Get my girl out of the house, she's trying to be a hermit.
