OOC INTRO: SEPTEMBER

State of the Game
Hello all, and thank you for an amazing inaugural month! We've been loving the response the game has been getting thus far and are hoping you all enjoy September just as much, if not more! We absolutely welcome and encourage you to share your insights as far as how you've found the game so far, positive and negative, and offer whatever feedback you feel is necessary!

Our intro log will be going up on the comms on September 3rd, but there are a couple important things that we want to cover before then:

1. Housing. By the time the intro log rolls around, the Storyteller will have amassed enough power to provide characters with housing, which will open up our Housing page for players to fill out depending on who they're rooming with. Said housing will be based around the vicinity of Ensō on a series of islets. You will find more information on the intro log and on the housing page!

2. Transportation. The mana pools double as a means of transportation. All your character must do is pick one of the narcissus flowers that now grow in abundance around the pool and toss it in, as per hinted at by a helpful limerick engraved nearby. Upon speaking their intended destination, they shall be whisked there with a flash of white light! At this time, as the islets are currently the only other locations with a mana pool, even failing to speak the destination will simply plop characters onto one of them at random.

3. Trigger Events. As more of the island is uncovered, we will be implementing this as a new mechanic! Certain squares may be likely to yield certain creatures or occurrences of note - which will then become an island-wide event, depending on the severity of it. There is no knowing when these sorts of events may crop up, but we will be trying our best to stagger them between larger events so there's not too much going on at once! Since, like the exploration squares themselves, they are RNG-based, these events have a random chance to occur at almost any time.

4. Item Requests. We've received a few questions regarding how Item Requests work! In general, we have to take into account what the Storyteller is capable of for any given request. You have until the end of the month to fill out non-compulsory AC. The OOC form is the only one necessary, but IC storytelling might be a nice way to get CR with people you're physically separated from. Those who use non-compulsory AC to make their requests do not need to use their AC immediately. You can instead regard the AC as a sort of coupon to cash in at your leisure.

5. AC. We would also like to take this opportunity to remind people to tag their characters in the comms. This is the only compulsory form of AC we have, but after the first few months, we are going to stop warning people for forgetting to tag their character. Characters who fail AC will be swept.

In the meantime, feel free to use this post as an OOC intro and CR meme for the month of September - for new players to introduce themselves, for old players to meet and greet, and for general plotting to occur! Tell us about yourself: Hi, I'm Dragon, double-apping in to wreck the place up. I'm a daily tagger, generally in the mornings, and I happily go on forever to do so. My timezone is Eastern. (You ever notice how people put 'EST' for timezone, but we're in EDT?) Hobbies: gaming, in various forms. D&D, FFXIV, and far too many Steam games just like everyone else. Aaaand probably Destiny 2 in a month or whenever that hits PC.

Character: Roy Greenhilt (greatcleavage)
Tell us about them: From the web's most popular D&D-themed story that isn't a podcast, Roy is a mid-high-level fighter and party leader who's spent 1000 strips trying to defeat a lich. He lives the sort of life where preventing the gods from obliterating the whole world is a sidequest. Despite being a mass of physical stats, he's an intellectual and a strategist -- he has his MBA, after all (Masters of Battle Administration). So he's certainly not thrilled about his arrival here, but he's prepared to take the Storyteller at its word and treat this like some bizarre semi-canon side-adventure-path thing. Just another day in the life, you know?
Current plans: This is pretty much Roy's bread-and-butter; organizing a balanced and capable group to explore would be his first intention. (I mean, he'll probably end up with whatever motley crew he can get together, but he's used to that.) So expect to see him heavily leaning towards searching out supplies and answers, while doing all he can to ensure the safety and protection of those less capable of looking out for themselves. So send people who want a leader! Or send people who will clash at him with different styles. Just send people, I'm saying.

Tell us about them: Mar is a cheerfully cracked tank-slash-ret paladin who retired bitterly from active adventuring some time back and is absolutely thrilled to be out in the field again. His standards are entirely skewed, because he's the sort who sees a giant monster of titanic proportions and says, "Here, I'll get hit in the face by it while you guys kill it." He's... actually a lot deeper than he wants anyone to know, but try not to let on if you figure that out.
Current plans: CHAARGE! Explore the island! Someone tell him how to properly take care of a horse, he's used to them just showing up and disappearing when you don't need them any more. Feel free to be driven crazy by him. Feel free to need his help.

Tell us about yourself: Well, there's not much to really write here. I'm in EST and soon to get back on the horse that is college. I just moved into a new place so I'm trying to balance out getting what I need/fixing my car/gaming at night.

I raid on FFXIV but infrequently right now so it doesn't affect availability. I love to cook, game, read, and sometimes when I'm really off in my own world I go draw. Partial graphic arts degree but swapping majors. I'll be missing the 3rd and 5th for birthday then the very last of a series I've been waiting on comes out. Waited 6 years.

Tell us about them: Hinata comes directly from everyone has to murder each other series Dangan Ronpa 2, so he's a bit stressed. Generally down to earth guy who will listen, learn, sigh in exasperation at some of the dumber things. But generally be part of the group. He'll do his best to work with everyone while trying to figure out what this whole deal is about.

There is the whole other undercurrent from his suppressed memories butttt I'll come to that later whenever I feel like updating him just enough so he learns what that fresh hell is about.
Current plans: Looking to build cr and start exploring! Hinata has his actual body so he'll have to deal with that and well. The lovely gift of his handbook having the last murder file on it.

Tell us about them: Ginko is a Big Nerdy Dad but uuuh he's from a (pretty low-key) horror canon and is coming in as a CRAU from a less low-key horror game SO permissions are here. Anyway, Ginko is a pretty laid-back guy who likes nature and talking about bugs, but also if you have one (1) basically positive conversation with him he will probably be ready to die for you, especially if you're a kid or teenager.
Current plans: Yeah he is definitely going to want to get a group together and explore this place... but also is somewhat limited by the fact that he's barely capable of moving if he ends up in sunlight. Also please bring him all the children to worry over, adopting all the kids is not something he has planned but it is inevitable.

Character: Tim Wright from Marble Hornets (postictal) and the Drifter from Hyper Light Drifter (hyperlit)
Tell us about them:

TIM is a sad and sick boy with a lot of problems he doesn't talk about. He's from Marble Hornets, aka boy I sure know how to pick obscure canons people don't recognize. It's a web series that popularized Slender Man even if in his canon it isn't actually the Slender Man but a vaguely similar creature called the Operator. IT'S COMPLICATED. He's also a CRAU from a game called sol_raveh, in which he attacked a bunch of people without meaning to, got stuck in a cage and almost drowned, shared a soul with some very poorly-adjusted children, and developed a very bitter opinion of Pokemon. Due to a lot of subjects that may crop up in Tim's narration, I recommend you checking out his opt-out/permissions post over thataway!

THE DRIFTER is the silent protagonist from Hyper Light Drifter, which is again one of those canons that no one really knows or plays from whoops. They're super sickly and terminally ill, which means they're going to be wrassling with their sickness for pretty much as long as they're alive, so that's a cool thing. They are also extremely driven tho so don't worry about them or nothing. They have a little companion sprite that projects text for them so people can understand them because they cannot actually speak. Take a look at their permissions if you wanna better idea of who you're dealing with!

Current plans:

TIM has been traveling with Chara Kidwun and Frisk Kittu for the most part, for reasons he's not gonna disclose to just anyone. He's been making a lot of weirdly positive CR lately, largely because Tim's long since passed that threshold of "FUCK this" and jettisoned straight into that zone of "this is just How My Life Is and I've long since accepted it." He's only done some desultory exploring, so I am looking for him to start nosing around the island a bit more.

THE DRIFTER has been making so many friends oh my goodness. Everyone here is so nice and can tolerate their existence?? IT'S SO WEIRD YOU GUYS. They've been doing a lot of exploring but it's not nearly enough for this blue bean, they need to explore Everything because they have a personal goal to map as much of the island as possible. Tell us about yourself: Hello, my player hearts! I'm Angel, and I am one of your modly types. I live on over in EST and I usually work fairly long shifts, so tags from me tend to come in bursts on my days off. That leaves me a bit slow on said work days, but I'm always willing to backtag!
Characters: Currently I play Frisk (now under the pseudonym "Kittu") from Undertale, and Ichimatsu from Osomatsu-san!
Tell us about them:

Frisk is a young RPG hero who's fallen into a world of monsters, both killed and been killed by them a hundred or so times, and finally liberated them to the human world. They're also CRAU'd from a game that saw them fighting a war against shadows within a castle, and they've gone through a heck of a lot. Currently, they're attempting to distance their identity from anyone who knew them previously under a false name, but they're largely still themself: quiet, blunt, a little bit intense, and a dirty lover of dank puns.

Ichimatsu is the fourth oldest of a sextuplet group, which currently exist as triplets here in LifeAftr. He's easily distinguishable from his brothers thanks to his purple sweater, messed up hair, and terrible attitude. He's the bad kind of tsun and loves putting both himself and everyone else down, but I swear there's a soul somewhere down in there. And it loves cats. It really fuckin loves cats. Like, if you're a cat, you've got it made. Everyone else I'm really sorry, know that he's mostly bark and usually not much bite.

Current plans:

Frisk, while generally trying to avoid CR from their past, has taken to wandering with Tim and Chara, and isn't incredibly averse to speaking with most others on the island. While their cautious distancing from their previous life has tied them down for the first month, it's likely that they'll start engaging in explorations soon -- let's be real here, 12 year olds with knives is gonna be a common sight around here.

Ichimatsu is hardly the adventurous type, but with the housing opening up soon he might end up dedicating some of his spare time to pertinent activities in order to keep himself occupied. He also still really wants to find a damn cat on this island, which the Storyteller said exists, so he'll probably chance getting demolecularized again to go looking for them at some point. He may even be willing to gather a party to venture forth with, this time.

Tell us about them: Here she stands, ninja clan. This dying girl comes from a post-apocalyptic world where 99% of people are dead, except for her and The Boy That Lived-Tokyo edition. She can be naïve, curious and childish despite her age, but she’s also cautious and wary of people. If someone blinks wrong, she’ll run away. She’s got a good heart though and wants to survive and be with everyone, even if she’s kind of flitting around all the time. She’s a lonely hooligan that wants friends without a way to express that's what she wants. So she’s everywhere, just watching people. Life is hard friends. She loves cats, singing and drawing. Super cool hobbies include hunting for treasure aka garbage. She can probably win any game of hide and seek.

Do you want someone to put old fish in your knapsack? To accidentally steal your stuff? To feel your feelings? This is your girl.

There’s also a handy dandy opt out post for her empathy ability. Since she’s gaining CR now, please let me know if this something you don’t want occurring in future threads with her. Alternatively, if you would like to play this out, just let me know and we can work towards that.

I like horror movies, nature, manga, and Lots of Things; some things this year I was looking forward to were Blade Runner, the second season of Stranger Things, The Dark Tower (Stephen King fan but never got into the DT books), Twin Peaks: The Return, and Alien: Covenant sort of. I have only been disappinted by... some of these things, so c'moooon Denis Villeneuve you can do it buddy please don't screw up Blade Runner.

Tell us about them: Marcille is a perfectly respectable elf spellcaster who definitely doesn't know anything about horrible forbidden magic that relies on sucking energy from eldritch dimensions no one fully understands. She's outspoken and stubborn, but feeling overall much less objectionable now that no one's asking her to cosplay as a frog.

In canon, her party is forced to subsist on what they can kill, cook, and scavenge from a dungeon because they can't afford real food \o/. Overall, Marcille thinks this place is kinda great because wow, food is actually growing on trees! She's recently invested in a cooking set, and is living the high life. Fried lizardbird! Eggs sunny-side up! Delicious.

I'm always up for exploring more stuff, and would especially enjoy playing out cooking meals and making things, since that's what Marcille's canon is all about SHE REALLY LOVES EATING or alternatively blowing things up with magic, that is also good. She would also be interested in sharing/cooperation, because why not.

Tell us about them: The protagonist of the RPG maker game OFF. A pretty emotionless guy who's life goals were to beat up ghosts with a baseball bat and succeeded in that, meaning both himself and his world are very much dead. Don't leave him in charge of children because it never ends well. He hasn't been too happy with being here since he'd rather be dead, but there's got to be a reason he's here right?
Current plans: I'm looking for positive or negative CR for the Batter! Come bring your Good and Bad Life Choices :) As a note, positive CR may be difficult in the beginning due to the Batter's almost-legendary inability to care and CR that is profoundly in the negatives may see him appearing a little....different to that person.

HI THERE, YES, IT'S ACTUALLY MICKEY MOUSE. Specifically from the DTV Mickey Donald Goofy: The Three Musketeers which technically also takes place in Kingdom Hearts somehow He's a naive, happy-go-lucky mouse always ready to make friends and dive into the action! He's already a great swordsman, but Marcille is also teaching him magic, awesome!!! He's adjusting well by THINKING POSITIVELY AND LOVING EVERYONE.

Permissions! His inventory consists of his clothes, his sword, a weird sickle, hardtack, soap, a bolt of cloth, a plush toy of Pluto and a plush toy of Minnie. HE IS NEVER GOING TO TELL ANYONE ABOUT THAT LAST THING.

Current plans: Open to all CR! I'd really love to do some exploring/map-expanding, but I get super nervous/shy approaching people for stuff, so, like... let me know if you'd be okay with our characters hitting the map! Tell us about them: Muffet is a spider monster who makes her living running a bakery with ruthless efficiency. She's willing to be terrifying if necessary, but is generally pretty kind and helpful to those she regards as 'her people', and is including most of the rest of the game in that at the moment because they're all stuck in this situation together. I have a permissions post and HMD on her journal, if anyone needs them.
Current plans: Muffet is mostly trying to get out there and do stuff, keeping herself busy to avoid worrying too much. I'd love for her to meet new people, she's the type who likes knowing everybody. She also has some suspicions about what might be going on with their arrival on the island, and will be keeping an eye out for anything that might confirm them, so anybody investigating metaplot stuff can absolutely come talk. :D

It's a skeleton wearing some rad light-up wheelie sneaks with velcro straps, shabby track shorts, a t-shirt with faded condiment stains, and a galaxy-print hoodie. He takes roughly three times the naps any reasonable person needs to get through the average day, and yet still manages to look perpetually tired.

But seriously, Sans is a monster from the Underground, a civilization trapped under a mountain in the game Undertale. Sans loves bad puns, dank memes, junk food and passively waiting for the sweet embrace of-- I mean. He could really use the oblivion that comes with the heat-death of the universe a long nap. He's regained a Reason to Do Something Maybe(TM) so he's marginally less useless than he was last month.

He's super unmotivated, lazy, and very unreliable for just about anything except cheap laughs (and bitter disappointment?). Still, if you enjoy silly deadweight he is absolutely your guy! Current plans: Osomatsu definitely needs to get out more. Right now, he's watching over his brothers to make sure they don't kill themselves (cough Ichimatsu cough). He's lazy, though, so he probably won't actively start looking for things. You'll have to drag him out, make it worth his while. Tell him you're looking for treasure, because that will motivate him! Tell us about them: Crow is a young boy from a post-apocalyptic world where 99% of the population died in a tragic cataclysmic event, save for a small handful of robots, a silver-haired girl, and a cinnamon roll that was too good for that world, too pure who ended up becoming Crow's best friend after Crow stole their locket and then fell off a ferris wheel at some point... it's a long story.

Anyway, he can be cold and rather rude to people that he first meets, but once he's had a chance to warm up to you, he can prove himself to be a friend for life. His philosophy is to always have fun, never cry or give in to despair because that's just lame. As such, he can be childish and naive when it comes to what he finds to be exciting in the pursuit of fun, prone to risky behavior and a bratty attitude to those who try to ruin said fun. That said, he's also curious and is actually very interested in books and stories, as well as collecting garbage any shiny trinkets he can get his hands on.

His permissions post is here, and the only inventory he's got on him aside from his weird outfit and random shit in his pockets is a Choco-Charm so far. Unfortunately, there's no point in him using it to make chocolate to eat because, surprise, Crow is one of those robots I mentioned earlier and doesn't require food. He will however be camping out at one of those pools every two weeks or so.

Current plans: I just got here so I am literally ready for anything: give us people for Crow to antagonize with his childishness, give him friends that will indulge said childishness and go exploring with him, or even just someone who will keep him from doing something dumb and hurting himself because this boy can't be trusted to not do that sometimes.

Tell us about them: Lup's a magical DnD elf who came here with her twin brother Taako. She just got over a bad case of being stuck in an umbrella for ten years and literally erased from everyone's memories. She's a loud and hot-headed but generally friendly type whose specialty is blowing shit up, though her magical powers have been significantly and upsettingly reduced here. The trash twins have established their niche by inventing fantasy Walmart so she's mostly been working gathering resources for that and creating a customer base. And also taking a shine to all the hard knock life kids out there bc she knows what that's like.

Current plans: Most of the time she's either helping run the store or foraging, so she can always be found there for CR! She deeefinitely wants to explore more of the island and maybe Taako will stop worrying if she does so with a group. The twins will do their darndest to invent booze some day and if they meet any more kids they're gonna have to start an Amazing School of Magic, Cooking and Self-Defense or something. That said, Lup can be kind of an asshole so negative CR would also be a riot tbh.

Tell us about them: Welp, Terra here is Final Fantasy VI (random person: "Wha, you mean there's a Final Fantasy before 7?" *bricked*), and she is actually a former Magitek Witch enslaved by the Empire and evil McDouchebag Kefka by way of a mind-control device called the Slave Crown. She's also not fully human. I'm taking her super early in the game, like. Within the first HALF HOUR because I'm evil that way, so Terra here is coming in shortly after the Slave Crown has been removed, and is on the run from several Empire soldiers trying to take her back - and oh yes, she is an amnesiac because the Slave Crown messed with her head that much. She'll not have much on her, just her sword and pendant - and a molehat that I got as present for the test drive. XD
Current plans: I'm game for both positive and negative CR! Being that Terra has amnesia, she's going to be very confused, a tiny bit wary of people who might want to help her, and not really know a whole lot so there's plenty of blank space potential there, I think :D I don't have anything -specific- in mind for her beyond getting a feel for the place, but I'm always open to ideas!~

Okay fo'real-- Wade's basically a chewy nougat of insecurity and abandonment issues wrapped around a layer of witty quips and pop culture references. He's a dual CRAU coming in from havenrpg and sol_raveh, so he's been trying to reconcile his sudden bouts of heroism and compassion with his desire to push people away as a defense mechanism (making friends is hard when you know they'll all die someday and you won't haha...ha), so he's still very conflicted as a result. Expect him to be shallowly funny to a fault until you really get to know him and his inner demons. Deep down, the dude's a mess.
Current plans: Wade's mostly gonna be in Survival Mode for the time being, collecting stores of supplies in order to keep him and his buddies (and his Cubone Tibia) comfortable for the time being. Starvation sucks, yo-- take it from him.

Tell us about them: Clem is a tiny nine year old who's seen Some Shit in her short life. She's lost pretty much everyone back home and is still dealing with that. She's a little (unsure) around strangers, and still carries her gun everywhere, but it doesn't take too long for her to come round if you seem nice - and if you're not trying to kidnap, kill, eat, patronise or shoot her, you're ok.

He also thinks of himself as a terrible person due to things that happened in his other game. He's a CRAU import from soulgemmed, in which he was turned into a Madoka character by a talking cat creature.
Current plans: Looking for a little bit of everything! Asriel's mostly been sticking close to Mettaton, but he needs to branch out and meet some friends. He's had a rough life in his previous game, so his trust in people is kind of shaky. He also doesn't have a lot of survival skills, since he used to provide for himself just by using magic.
