Player: Laura Character/Username: Lup hellawrath Prior to coming to LifeAftr, what is an aspect of your character that they struggled with - be it a shortcoming, a fear, a bad habit, or eccentricity? I don't personally have a particular development in mind for Lup, but I think it's safe to say her impulsiveness and recklessness is an aspect of her that isn't always ideal. She always acts on and trusts her own emotions, often without first considering how wise that may be. Her wrath is a big one here of course, she's quick to anger and difficult to diffuse once she's set off. She has the potential to be incredibly destructive and dangerous if she lost control of her anger, but this is balanced by her bonds with other people keeping her grounded.
She also tends to take on responsibility for others to a detrimental degree. She feels responsible for all the planes lost to the Hunger and is convinced she can save them. She decided on the risky relic plan, feeling that she could make that kind of call for an entire plane. And her feelings of guilt and responsibility for the relics destroying so many lives led to her leaving her family to fix her mistake without even telling them of her plans. She didn't want to allow anyone else to help her stop the Phoenix Fire Gauntlet because it was her relic and her responsibility, and she was willing to die to do it.
What do they struggle with now? Is it the same as the above? Definitely still the same, I mean the main reason she almost died to flower plague was because she was putting everyone else before her own well-being. Though she was also doing that partly to avoid admitting to herself how scared and helpless she was feeling. She just does not know how to chill in any fashion.
What personal demons, specifically, haunt your character from canon or from past game experiences? She's haunted by the deaths and destruction caused by all the relics, because she was the one who convinced everyone else to turn the Light of Creation into the relics in the first place. Worst of course are the thousands of deaths and complete destruction of entire cities at the hands of the Gauntlet. And she knows that she would be capable of that same kind of wrathful destructive force, if she lost her self-control in her lich form.
She's also fucked up by being trapped in the umbrella and forgotten by everyone for a decade. She still struggles with keeping her grip on herself and reality sometimes, and hates to admit to being so scared and helpless. It feels like a weakness to be messed up by it, and she refuses to put the responsibility of helping her deal with it on anyone else.
What is the type of person your character hopes to become?A legend. She wants to be powerful enough to defeat the Hunger. She wants to make sure to always be a good sister, friend and partner, and she wants to keep learning and becoming more powerful. But she thinks she's already pretty fucking awesome and she's correct.
What is the type of person you hope your character will become? I would like her to be more forgiving to herself for her trauma and for the relics. I want her to be able to be vulnerable to people she trusts about the things that scare her. And maybe CHILL FOR FIVE MINUTES SOMETIMES.
Do any of the Seven Deadly Sins or Virtues stand out as applicable to your character? Why? Last time some all-knowing judges tried to judge her, she interrupted them to announce her own sins as "definitely some lust, some gluttony in there, probably; pride, for sure" and of course "hella wrath". That pretty much all checks out, in particular pride/hubris can fuck her up, cf making a lich-eating umbrella without ever considering that she could get defeated and vored by it herself. Thinking that she can take on so much responsibility by herself is also pretty prideful? And it's pretty gluttonous/greedy to always want more - more experiences, more power, I don't think she could ever be satisfied stagnating anywhere. Though unlike Taako's dissatisfaction, I don't think that's negative and prevents her from being happy, rather it's what pushes her to keep going and gives her meaning.
Wow there are way more than seven virtues huh. Anyway kindness is a big one for Lup, as her intensity of emotion ensures that she will be just as fiercely caring as wrathful. Justice and loyalty are based in her strong sense of right and wrong. Unshakable hope and faith in herself and others are immensely important to her personality and they're what give her the strength to keep going despite all the ordeals during the century fighting the Hunger and beyond.
