New Island: Maati
NEW ISLAND: MAATI

The votes are in! And despite the abstracted nature of this round of voting, most characters elected to vote for the fourth option presented: the one represented by golden flames, a set of scales, and a number of shapes that resemble birds.
The newest addition to LifeAftr can be found on our Locations page. The Storyteller alert explorers on the night prior that the new island will be ready for exploration via the mana pools on November 10th.
Transportation
The Storyteller will manage to link Maati's mana pool with Ensō's. As they are still in a state of recovering from the havoc the fabric of Mu has played on your psyches, as well as the multiple resurrections they had to enact all at once, they do not - or rather, cannot - inform you of any specific dangers or things to watch out for on the island of Maati.
The mana pool is present on the E5 square, should the characters choose to arrive via that method. In addition, characters are free to sail there on their own, if they so choose.
The Storyteller does mention the name of the island, at least, in the initial dream.
Be the Power to Compel Me
The island itself is relatively bare, surrounded on all sides by cliffs. The cliffs are sheer, so much so that attempts to climb them will come with a high chance of failure unless characters invest a few stories into proper climbing gear. Those with powers of flight and teleportation will also be incapable of reaching the top until these areas have been explored...or otherwise made available to them.
This land lacks very many natural resources due to how rocky and desolate it appears to be. However, that does not mean that nothing can be uncovered in this area at all - old tools and equipment can be uncovered with enough searching, as though a great many struggles or battles were fought here, a long time ago.
However, from a distance, it can be discerned that Maati is a peculiarly shaped island: a seven-pointed star. While the center remains the only part of that land that can be initially charted, the different prongs of the star are each walled off with a large door, each bearing a different, glowing sigil. Those who remember the caves underneath Ensō might recall this occurrence as worryingly similar.

Won't You Liberate Me?
The avatar of Maati, similar to Harv, will make their presence known rather quickly. Their temple can be found at the island's center, and it will be fairly obvious when one draws close: some of the only green on Maati can be found there! Their temple is a fairly simple thing, built of iron and copper. Yet more copies of the same seven sigils that can be found on the doors are inlaid periodically across the exterior, carved from differently-colored variants of jasper. Twined about the metallic construct, woven neatly throughout the composition of the building, several chestnut trees rear out into the sky. And everywhere you look, the symbol of the eagle can be found - fanning wings, hooked beak, outspread talons - carved into the walls, in the form of simple ornaments mounted on ledges and peaks.

Surprisingly gentle, we say, because Anbaki is the avatar of justice. And they might be able to explain those symbols mounted on all those doors, too...
As always, we'll have a thread for questions and comments, and we encourage you to make use of our Mod Contact page for private correspondence!

Character/Username: Yeager (
Prior to coming to LifeAftr, what is an aspect of your character that they struggled with - be it a shortcoming, a fear, a bad habit, or eccentricity? Where do I even start here... Yeager has a lot of problems that he doesn't realize or acknowledge are actually problems. As far as he's concerned, he's doing great and the one big problem in his life is that Alexei's an asshole. The truth is that everything ultimately goes back to that nasty "being brought back from the dead" thing that still does weigh heavily on Yeager, even though he's not fully aware of it. Because he's so messed up by having a second chance at life like this, he literally created an entirely new personality for himself and does everything he can to distance himself from his previous life as an Imperial Knight. So to sum it up simply, his biggest struggle is actually a goddamn identity crisis of all things. "Yeager" is a personality and in some ways, it's just as much of an act as "Regaey" was. Yeager is a deeply messed up individual who doesn't realize how messed up he actually is.
What do they struggle with now? Is it the same as the above? He just got here, so yeah!
What personal demons, specifically, haunt your character from canon or from past game experiences? Obviously his death during the Great War, but more specifically - Casey's death. Casey was the leader of the brigade he was a part of and also his girlfriend at the time, buuuut she was dead by the time he was revived and she wasn't brought back to life. Casey gets a mention here because Yeager actually tells his daughters about her, even though he does everything he can to distance himself from his past life, so obviously he's still kind of a mess about her in particular. Perhaps surprisingly given all the awful things he was doing, the only thing that can come close from his time as Yeager is Don Whitehorse's death, which Yeager orchestrated. But he genuinely believes that was necessary, so he's not anywhere near as torn up about that.
What is the type of person your character hopes to become? Hahahaha. Yeager... doesn't really have any personal goals like that? His answer to this before he died (for real this time) would've been "rich...er??" because he's already pretty well set financially and he... doesn't really have any goals for himself. But since he's coming into Lifeaftr immediately after dying in canon the only response you'd get is "?????". He has no goddamn idea what kind of person he hopes to become. Why would he have any plans like that, he kind of wanted to die so he could stop dealing with everything and now he's here?? He didn't ask for this.
What is the type of person you hope your character will become? My hope is that someday Yeager will become a person who DEALS WITH HIS GODDAMN PROBLEMS instead of shoving them all out of sight and pretending they don't exist. Or running away from said problems and becoming an entirely different person. That would be nice too. I'm not asking for much. Just some goddamn character development.
Do any of the Seven Deadly Sins or Virtues stand out as applicable to your character? Why? Oh boy, they absolutely do.
SINS - Honestly, you could make an argument for almost every sin here. Sloth is a big one, but not because Yeager's lazy, he's just extremely apathetic about everything and doesn't really feel any sort of emotions properly anymore (because he's a dumbass who intentionally tried to shut them all off). Greed is another big one, because pretty much everything Yeager does is for money. He doesn't even need it, he's got a massive manor and he makes a ton of money off of weapon sales anyway. This one's a bit trickier because he doesn't necessarily want all the money, it's more that he's doing all of this so he has something to do with himself (and he likes plotting). Pride is the last one I'll mention, and this is another weird one because he isn't typically a proud man? He's totally fine calling others "milord" or serving as their bodyguards and given that "Yeager" is a created personality in the first place, he's obviously not embodying pride in the way a lot of characters do. But with that said he does greatly value his own personal freedom and his ability to do whatever the goddamn hell he wants at any given moment, and having that taken from him results in him preferring death, so that's. A thing. Yeager doesn't fit neatly into any of the sins, but he definitely fits them better than he does the virtues.
VIRTUES - There are aspects of these that you could argue for Yeager (he can be remarkably patient when he wants something, he is never idle and works really hard when he's motivated, he clearly is capable of being kind and caring about others) buuuut considering everything he is as a person, most of these are very situational and nine times out of ten, he's just going to be an asshole even if he is somehow embodying one of these virtues. However, the one I'm going to cite here is Charity, since the game actually does make a big point of bringing this up as The One Good Thing Yeager Has Ever Done. Yeager almost single-handedly supports an orphanage - it's where he adopted Gauche and Droite from and after he dies, the orphanage is having a lot of financial problems that the party can help with during a sidequest. Yeager is getting literally nothing from supporting the orphanage, and it's even used against him to get him to work for Alexei in the first place. So Charity actually is a good fit for him, even though he's not always going to be charitable.

Its true meaning, whatever that might be, will only come to be clear in time.
