OOC INTRO: FEBRUARY

State of the Game
Welcome, newcomers, and hello again to the oldcomers! Last month saw adventurers being unwittingly conscripted into helping the Avatar of Balance do some much-needed re-balancing of their island, thrown off-kilter as it was. After the chaos of Shadows, Lights, and Rejection Rooms, you probably need a few days to rest and recuperate...and maybe mend whatever shattered bridges may have arisen between you and your CR...but Balance, for what it's worth, is incredibly thankful for your help!

We've loved the feedback we've gotten about the game thus far, positive and negative, and encourage you to contact us whenever you feel it is necessary!

Our intro log will be going up on the comms on February 4th. Until then, a few quick points:

1. Monsun. The island of Monsun is not only still in the archipelago, but will be very relevant come this month's intro log. It is recommended that new players read up on the island's information, so that they are appraised come said intro!

2. February Event. The Storyteller was diligent as ever in allowing you to vote for your next island location. In the process of said voting, it seems that you all made your thoughts on going anywhere new this month...quite clear. Thus, there will be no new island this month, though there will be an event mid-month to make up for it! Voting will re-resume next month.

In the meantime, feel free to use this post as an OOC intro and CR meme for the month of February - for new players to introduce themselves, for old players to meet and greet, and for general plotting to occur! If you want to chat or keep up with game updates, we also have both a plurk and a discord channel!

Tell us about yourself: He/Him, EST. I was legally dead for four months last year and came back on the eighth anniversary of Vriska's introduction in Homestuck. This is basically the most interesting thing that will ever happen to me, because I'm actually super boring.

Character: Karako Pierot hurricane_clown
Permissions: None! But if you're coulrophobic or something, uh, just shoot me a PM and I'll give you wide berth with him.
Tell us about them: Small clown with big horns, armed with more knives than ANYONE in the game. Karako is basically a rogue tween from the planet Alternia, meaning he's a murder-ready bug alien... except he's also a runt, so he also can't speak because his vocal cords aren't developed enough. Instead, he communicates exclusively in honks. He's somewhat impulsive and actually very friendly... just watch out for that Clown Rage.
Current plans: Karako is starting to carve out (ha) a niche for himself, insamuch as he's making some friends, and also failing to find anyone who will give him the common term for most people's species. He still doesn't know the word 'human.' So like... business as usual on "what the fuck is going on" island, he's probably been eating literal bugs from under logs because we can't all survive on fruits and veggies.
Anything else: I'm very concerned with ensuring everyone is having fun and not just me, so like.... please feel free to hit me up or let me know if something is taking a turn towards something you don't enjoy, I'm mega flexible.

Permissions: This is important!! Foster is mentally ill on main and also a necromancer, please by god fill this out for me.
Tell us about them: Foster is a necromancer with psychosis, which is basically the worst combination for making friends. He thinks people being nice to him proves you're lying to him, and rarely misses an opportunity to tell you how wrong you are about everything. He also rarely misses an opportunity to tell everyone how wrong HE is about everything. It's hard to tell if he enjoys hating himself more or less than he enjoys you hating him, hopefully you like arguing.

He's also a nine-foot tall mushroom-covered bear-armed centaur, because CRAU is a riot.
Current plans: He has a Mimikyu now, which he acquired (and then had taken away) in his original game and only just now requested from the Storyteller because of Reasons. Last event also revealed his Light side and with it the existence of actual positive traits, which is something he's still really uncomfortable with. I'd like to start getting some more varied CR... positive CR would be really nice (so to speak?), or even negative CR that he can rely on. People are a lot less willing to be a jerk to him than he's comfortable with and it's freaking him the fuck out.

All she wants to do is hold hands with people and learn about every single ding dang person. Would die for someone if they smile at her. She's childish, kind and scared of her own shadow, but does her best being a raccoon. Does some casual breaking at entering, likes playing baseball and hide and seek, will drag you into random games, loves treasure hunting which is really just garbage collecting. Don't be scared if she's in ur trash. Really she's just hanging out. Come be a dingus with her. Also has [2] cat friends and would trade anything for a shiny rock or two. i say i'm gonna update this but i will never ever do that ig.

Current plans: Shadows were hell?? Honestly?? She's laying low during this free month and trying to deal with the aftermath of All That with her CR. Tell us about them: Eska is a D&D character! They're a Way of Empathy Monk, which means their hobbies include punching things REAL good, spreading tranquility and kindness, and healing others by hacking their own HP off like it's going out of style. They're also a tortle, which means they're a human-sized, bipedal... turtle. Yeah. They also believe VERY much in the healing power of meeting others with sincere, open acceptance and compassion. Being accepted as your flawed, imperfect, trying-your-best self with no strings attached is a concept that they hold very dear, so be prepared for a whole lot of friendship and encouragement right from square one.

Current plans: OH GOD I JUST GOT HERE WHERE AM I IS THAT A STARBUCKS. I really just need Eska to establish some CR! They also don't mind sleeping rough and just kinda wandering wherever whimsy takes them, but I wouldn't mind figuring out a housing arrangement eventually. More importantly than that, though: it sounds like y'all had a pretty rough January, huh? If you need someone to lend an ear (or a shoulder) (or a big splappy-ass turtle paw) and give you a little comfort after that harrowing whatever-it-was, Eska is absolutely 100% here to help people.

TIM WRIGHT is a some dude from a web series called Marble Hornets (aka that one slender man webseries that Started It All) and a CRAU from a game called Sol Raveh. Super depressed, still kind of a chain-smoker, and chock-full of that good ol mental health Garbage so feel free to give me a poke if there's anything that gets a little too Real. He's progressed to owning a restaurant, semi-adopting a bunch of weird kids, and turning into something of a wood-carver in his spare time. He also primarily fights things by setting them on fire. It's not great.

THE DRIFTER is from an indie game called Hyper Light Drifter because obscure canons are, apparently, My Business. Silent, blue-skinned wanderer who communicates via sign language and/or a little bobbing sprite thing that hovers by their shoulder and projects text. They will teach u sign language if u want. They're also suffering from an incurable terminal illness so don't be alarmed if they start horking up blood sometimes it's just a thing that happens on occasion.

AGENT WASHINGTON is from a web show called Red vs. Blue, which is a halo-based machinima about colorful space soldiers thats funny until it stops being funny and starts being really fucking sad. he's a space marine who just needs a fucking nap, honestly. in general, he's pretty dependable in a crisis, is a highly accomplished killer, and has a hell of a Traumatic Past and copes with it by being grumpy and acting like he's still a soldier, which he technically is.

Current plans:

TIM is a little McFucked post-shadow event, due to dealing with a shitton of truth bombs and admissions about his feelings and he's a big mess oh no. He's still running DENNY if anyone wants to work there. come work there! or just hang out it's cool.

DRIFTER is...also mcfucked after the shadow shit lol. they're on the physical mend after getting THRASHED by their shadow self, and also that shadow killed legion? what the fuck. they're kind of trying to process this and has finally started to process that repression is maybe not the best way to go. unfortunately they have no alternate means of dealing with Any Of That. whoopsie doodles.

WASH got off comparatively easy but is still. kind of mcfucked. because he's now the only one around from home and doesn't really know what he's doing with himself. he's alone with a tigerlily that used to belong to CT and is just trying to occupy himself with busy soldierly things: patrolling, keeping himself combat ready, being shaken awake by nightmares of his long history of past trauma, you know, the usual.

Laurent comes from Captive Prince, a medieval political intrigue series! Which is basically also a BL. I should probably have said that first, huh. Tell us about them: Violet is, hard as it may be to believe, not a Saberface, but an ex-child soldier who was conscripted into the army when she was found in the warzone and proceeded to be Unsettlingly Good At Killing For An Actual Baby Child. Following the war, in which she lost both of her arms, she was fitted with a pair of mechanical prosthetics and has been doing her best to adjust to being a civilian. Part of this process has come about from her work as what's known as an "Auto Memoir Doll", which is a sort of Emotional Support Ghostwriter kind of job. She writes letters for people who either can't write themselves or are having a hell of a time trying to put their feelings into words. As of her canonpoint, she's been doing this job for aaaaabout a year and slowly learning how to Be A Person in the process. A certified good girl, with a smile worth protecting.
Current plans: In terms of immediate plans, GUESS WHAT!!! i don't have any. Monsun is about the bestworst introduction to the islands for her that I could have asked for, so I'm expecting to get some good mileage out og that and hopefully get her settled in the short term. In the long term, I'm thinking I'd like for her to start offering her services as an Auto Memoir Doll again, where she can write and deliver letters through the islands for people, with an eye on expanding it into a full postal/delivery service? He died far too many times. The characters there achieved end game but instead of going home to fix things and save his friend he ended up here instead.

This month marks his one year anniversary of being in Life Aftr! It's been a Time! He went from the trials in December to the Shadow event with a hiatus in between so he has a lot to unpack from all of that. He still has a lot of Nonesense to deal with re his mutual crush on Connor and also his many Feelings about Nezumi. On top of that he has lost Aster and a bunch of other friends so dealing with things needs to happen.

Or he could just jump headfirst into more nonsense and ignore his problems because that's legit!
Current plans: More CR! As I mentioned Shion has lost a few friends and he is the sort of person who will hunker down and stick with those he knows. Except thats not how you DWRP so I would like this month for him to meet and thread with new CR! Apart from that, anything goes!

Tell us about them: The good doctor has only been living here for a month now, and already he's starting to find himself integrating with the other denizens of the island. Despite being quite the bizarre individual, he's a highly competent healer and surgeon who knows when he can be silly and strange, and when he needs to drop the shenanigans and be serious. He can also fight, if necessary - he knows how to put that scalpel to good use.
Current plans: As it stands, Faust is currently renovating the clinic building on the main island. Around about the same time as the IC Intro I plan to put up a top level inviting everyone to come and assist - either to help polish the place up or to offer services as a healer. That, and I'd love to get involved in some further CR with pretty much any character, so feel free to hit me up.

He has never seen a human being or even anything organic before in his life, nor does he really comprehend such things because he's from a long-dead post-apocalyptic wasteland, and also he used to worship an idealized and incorrect image of humanity that got warped over the centuries(!!!) into the central deity of a weird robot religion, so LifeAftr is really gonna be a fun time for him.
Current plans: I am brand new so I have no plans atm, but I love all kinds of CR, positive and negative. Any other robots that live here Horatio is gonna stick to like glue, because people are the worst case of meeting your heroes of all time. As for Monsun, he will hilariously be drawn to the desert over the forest (familiarity!) so come join him in being a decent person while wandering a hellscape?? Wow it's just like home.

Tell us about them: Yusuke Kitagawa is literally the embodiment of the stereotype of Eccentric Artist. Also starving artist. Somebody feed this kid. He's a good kid even if he is very blunt and can come off as a little rude without meaning to. He didn't exactly have the best upbringing but it's cool! He's out and trying to find his own path!
Current plans: Currently I just want Yusuke to meet people that will help him get some more life experience. He's pretty sheltered and honestly, right now he just wants to focus on art to get him away from the angst his current canon point. Honestly, he's going to be coming off as a hot mess which...yeah. Tell us about them: Pyrrha is the top student in her class, smart, beautiful, and with a heart of gold. She wants nothing more than to be the hero people deserve. And then somewhere down the line she killed a robot girl by accident, and almost died.

Except this Pyrrha is a CRAU from a space/ninja sex party - themed murdergame, Airlocked. She survived death multiple times, found love, became a space pirate and also an ambassador of sorts? Flavortown and Space!Guy Fieri were involved. It was wild. Right now, she's living alone with her plant tiger and trying to make sure the clinic doesn't burn down.
Current plans: Pyrrha needs.... friends. She doesn't have very many CR right now, so getting out again and hanging with others would be nice. Of course, if your character is someone that doesn't like people who are always there for others, negative CR is good too.

She'll also be continually looking for anyone with any sort of medical skill. The Clinic needs workers, after all.

Shoes are for everyone else. Will talk your ear off about nothing and be as helpful as possible. Gets attached to people very very quickly, because one never knows when they might disappear. Also really, really into playing dumb games with any and all kids!! It's totally fine to assume he's hung out with your kid characters and probably helping out Muffet or in the Denny in general when not goofing off. His MO is mmmostly getting others to relax and enjoy something pleasant before unpleasantness starts up again.

Tell us about them: Sad goat king who has survived one (1) murdergame, and is now considerably less king! He lives by himself and is currently growing a lot of tea and vegetables.
Current plans: Just looking for more CR! I'd like for him to eventually be a little more open about, uh, everything that's going on with him right now. I'm hoping that some of his Light threads will help push things in that direction, but those aren't really done yet, so I guess we'll see? He's just got a lot of worries and problems that he isn't confiding in anyone because he doesn't feel close enough.
