OOC INTRO: APRIL

State of the Game
Hello, and welcome, to both new arrivals and more seasoned explorers! The month of March saw adventurers exploring the new island of Cahypdo, making friends with the local people, the Roaka, and feeling that fertile earth move under their feet. Those of you who are new to the game or have not had a chance to do so already are more than welcome to trade with the Roaka - though we recommend you do so before this month's event.

We've loved the feedback we've gotten about the game thus far, positive and negative, and encourage you to contact us whenever you feel it is necessary!

Our intro log will be going up on the comms on April 4th. Until then, a few quick points:

1. Cahypdo. As the newest island in the archipelago, we recommend that anyone new to the game read up on the island of Cahypdo, due to its relevance in the intro log...and for this month's event!

2. Event Scheduling. Speaking of events, last month we held a poll to see how you would like to see us schedule events going forward. The uncontested conclusion was a preference for events to take place earlier in the month. As such, this month's event will start us off in that direction, with the event being held from April 10th to April 15th, with lasting consequences that will persist until the end of the month!

3. Dark Mode. Lastly, it was brought to us last month that our code is not very functional in dark mode. While the fix is fairly straightforward, LifeAftr has a fair amount of code to pour over in order to ensure all our pages are updated. We'd like to thank those who alerted us to the issue - and also encourage anyone to approach us if you notice a page, paragraph, or section that we've missed fixing up, once we've done so! We've already begun correcting a few pages, but we would be happy for anyone to let us know if we've missed anything.

In the meantime, feel free to use this post as an OOC intro and CR meme for the month of April - for new players to introduce themselves, for old players to meet and greet, and for general plotting to occur! If you want to chat or keep up with game updates, we also have both a plurk and a discord channel!

Tell us about them: She's a sick little lab experiment that comes from a post apocalyptic world where humanity is like super dead. All she wants to do is hold hands with people and learn about every single ding dang person. Would die for someone if they smile at her. She's childish, kind, scared of her own shadow, and is living her best raccoon life. Does some casual breaking at entering, likes playing baseball and hide and seek, will drag your character into random games, loves treasure hunting. Which is really just like garbage collecting. In brief, Toriel is, in short, the Ultimate Mom (and the Ultimate Helicopter Parent). She's from Undertale, an obscure game I'm sure absolutely nobody has heard of, but in brief she's someone who cares deeply for the welfare of children and has lost a lot of them. I mean, a lot. To the point where the game compares her to a tree whose leaves keep falling off.

It's not pretty, but she's a very strong woman who, like certain other Undertale characters, is Determined (tm). So she's not really the type to angst - she is the type to extremely Mom you regardless of how old you are, even if you're technically older than her (and she's fucking old).

Unfortunately, she's also... quite lonely. So getting her into a setting where she's not holed away in an ancient ruin is probably good for her.

Current plans: I'm looking for positive CR with her to start with! I'd really like her to meet some of the children of the game and start forming a kind of makeshift family with them - getting someone to call her "Mom" is The Goal. But I'd also like her to meet some of the other parents and adults of the setting and find people she can relate with, so she's less horribly lonely than she is in canon.

My first plans are to get her to meet the Undertale cast - particularly Frisk and Chara, but also their caretaker Tim. After that, I want to see how she gets along with Muffet and (especially) Asgore. Asgore and her have a lot of development to go through and I'm eagerly looking forward to it!

If anyone has any suggestions for CR they'd like to see with Toriel, hit me up! I'd be happy to plot.

Permissions: Do I have one yet? No. Does he require one, absolutely - just in the interest of fair warning, his canon deals a lot with body horror, zombies being just like fucking everywhere, the end of the world, and also eating people? He eats people because of course he does.
Tell us about them: Albert Wesker is CEO of the Umbrella Corporation, and also may have kind of orchestrated an apocalypse that killed over seven billion people but he thinks that's fine because they're all zombies now, and zombies are preferable to humans because he's well-adjusted like that. He also got shoved into a murdergame, made some semblance of friends and then immediately tried to unleash the zombie plague in a sealed environment because, again, well-adjusted.
Current plans: Again, I'm fine with literally anything! One day I will play someone who doesn't have the social skills of a rock but today is not that day.

Tell us about them: Maine is a 24-year-old space marine who has minimal life experience outside of war. Personality-wise, he's basically a big ball of rage, determination, and loyalty wrapped up in a 7-foot-tall wall of muscle. In the words of the Counselor:

"A brute. Strong, unrelenting, fearless. He had no qualms when being asked to do the unpleasant, the morally questionable, because despite what many thought of him he knew he was, at his core, a soldier, and his actions inevitably served the greater good."

Maine is generally Really Bad at emotions that aren't anger, since anger has been the most useful throughout his life. This can initially make him difficult to get to know; he's standoffish and lacks empathy for strangers, plus he's taciturn to a fault. But he warms up once he can relate to someone (e.g., figuring out what they have in common). Just don't piss him off.
Current plans: He'll be arriving in a few days! Currently, he only has CR with his castmates (how shocking!), so I'm looking forward to anything and everything. Come at me!
Anything else: If your character has seen/met Maine through past events, please give me a heads up! I'm generally cool to roll with whatever, but I prefer to know that sort of thing ahead of time rather than have it randomly pop up in a thread. Aaaaand the gif:

Tell us about them:

TIM has got troubled thoughts and the self-esteem to match. He's a depressed chainsmoker from a web series called Marble Hornets (aka that one slender man webseries that Started It All) and a CRAU from sol_raveh. He tries very hard and does generally mean well, but struggles a very lot with his own copious mental health issues. Has somehow progressed to being the rakish uncle of at least several children? Currently runs Denny, which is lifeaftr's sole eatery, and a carpentry place.

THE DRIFTER is from an indie game called Hyper Light Drifter. Silent, blue-skinned wanderer who communicates via sign language and/or a little bobbing sprite thing that hovers by their shoulder and projects text. They're suffering from an incurable terminal illness and are technically just dying in slow motion, but in general they're here to help!! They will happily teach sign language to anyone who asks.

AGENT WASHINGTON is from a web show called Red vs. Blue, which is a halo-based machinima about colorful space marines thats funny until it stops being funny and starts being really fucking sad. in general, he's pretty dependable in a crisis, is a highly accomplished killer, and has a hell of a Traumatic Past. but he's getting better, kinda. he has a tigerlily that wasn't supposed to be his, and actually has it a lot less together than he seems because people from home are a BIG CONCERN

Current plans:

TIM still runs Denny, which is LifeAftr's one and only restaurant. Let me know if you wanna work there! We can handwave if you want, or if you want some good establishing threads for nascent CR that definitely flies for me too. I try to get a Denny mingle up once a month if possible, unless extenuating circumstances make that unlikely or unnecessary. He also has finally established a carpentry nearby, if you need any woodcarvin done!

THE DRIFTER has been doing some exploratin of the new island but not much else. hmu if you want explorations done! in the meantime, they've also been chilling around the newly established library cause they love libraries my dudes!!

WASH is gonna be in mild panic mode thanks to the arrival of not one but TWO more castmates and this is fine, it's probably fine, it's just two people from his past who have painful associations with him for various reasons and oh my god he's going to TRY not to make this weird. TRY. he'll probably be helping get them settled, but almost certainly needs someone out there to help him talk about it. because. yeah. it's A Lot and his last infodump DIDN'T GO SO HOT so he's sworn off of those for the moment :|

Laurent comes from Captive Prince, a medieval political intrigue series! Which is basically also a BL. I should probably have said that first, huh. He's affectionately referred to as a snake, thanks to his quirky personality traits of stabbing men in the first tagback (sorry) and general refusal to make friends. Laurent will absolutely sell you out for one corn chip even if he's done nothing of the sort yet.

This version of Laurent is a CRAU from the Madoka-inspired game soulgemmed, and comes with magic (and uh. other Madoka-related complications.)

Permissions: You can find Tex's permissions post here. At Tex's pull point she was recovering from an injury and was just to the point where she was able to walk unaided, so she has a ways to go to get back to the level of fitness she would prefer. Also, she has invisibility on her armor and is likely to use it strategically if she needs to in order to win a fight.
Tell us about them: Tex is a combat AI who was placed in a human body in her previous game. ICly she struggles with the desire to use her robot instead—and unfortunately for her, she doesn't have access to it in LifeAftr. Therefore, she will go through some struggles with accepting her lot in not overworking or injuring her human body in her attempt to regain what she doesn't have here. Otherwise, Tex has a special connection to another AI who is in game, known simply as Church. I will likely be exploring her emotions in regard to him as well.
Current plans: So far I just want Tex to meet people, including potential enemies, friends, or ship partners!
Anything else: I played the Director in the game last year, a character who was Tex's creator, so if your character had CR with him and it comes up that could be interesting to explore! Otherwise I mainly want a heads-up if your character has reason to know who Tex is.

Tell us about yourself: My name is Roxy, she/her pronouns and I'm on EST/GMT-5 I thiiiink? I obviously love Pokemon given who I play and I'm also a big fan of cartoons in general, adoring Ghibli, Disney/Pixar, and a variety of other things. I'm also huge into video games and tabletop games like Dungeons and Dragons and have about 3 (YEAH I KNOW, PRAY FOR MY ASS) campaigns I'm in currently. I also follow Critical Role like a fiend and would die for each and every member of the cast. They are supremely good beans. I'm also constantly crying over my friends because they're cute af and I'm love them very much. Except when they hurt me emotionally. Lexy, I'm calling you out specifically..

Guzma | yallstupid - Pokemon Sun/Moon (games)
Amaterasu (Ammy) | mamaterasu - Okami
Permissions: I'm at work so I can't link them, but Ammy has one on her journal and I...should make one for Guzma at some point, given his nature and some sensitive themes he deals with.
Tell us about them:
Guzma is obviously one of the main antagonists in the Pokemon games, but since he's from endgame as I play him, he's a bit more chilled out than he was during the earlier events of the game. He's still very surly, has a hairpin trigger of a temper and in extreme conditions can get physically violent. I will warn for this at points, but keep that in mind. Guzma has anger issues he deals with considering his childhood (the game not-so-subtly hints that he was physically abused by his father as a child) and grew up bitter, angry, and violent himself after he ran away from home and joined Team Skull, later being their leader. He has 2 Pokemon with him: Golisopod and Ariados - which I can't link images to because work right now, but I normally do in tags when they appear for those who don't know the canon and...each of the 800+ Pokemon that now exist WHEEZE.

Like said, he's chilled out a bit because he's endgame, and he has a sort of soft spot for kids, especially those that he can tell are...not in good places. He has a low tolerance for people getting pushed around, especially by people older than them or who have some sort of authority over them. He's very combatitive and competitive and will easily and readily get into fights if the scale is tipped that way. And he is strong even without his Pokemon. Guzma's 6'3" of piss and vinegar and will knock out teeth as needed. Thankfully, the need to do so in game is pretty low, and he occupies himself with doing daily tasks and such to occupy himself.

Ammy on the other hand is the Japanese Sun Goddess Amaterasu in wolf form. She's kind, loving, friendly, smells like a steaming dumpster in July, and will easily make friends with people who are open enough to come and pet her. Normally seen as just a white wolf to those that don't know who or what she is (a god), she acts just as much the part of a wolf as she does a god. Goofy, fun-loving, and playful, she tends to spend her days sleeping, eating, and being filthy instead of...tending to godly things. She's a lazy pile on most days and it'd take a cat. 6 hurricane to move her from a nap.

She's also strong, but for other reasons, obviously. Painting with her tail, she can create things like fire, plats, move water, etc. She can also run faster than the wind in small bursts and has holy weapons...yadda yadda. She paint good. Real hecking good. She also has a small community garden she maintains in the Monkey Compound that people can partake in as they see fit! It's open to everyone.
Current plans: More CR mostly, positive or negative, but positive CR is better for Ammy, since she's so kind and personable. Negative CR is fun but nothing to the point of "kill on sight", please. Unless we discuss things personally. I've already killed a character and times right now aren't great for me to do so again.

I also really, really was Guzma to learn to shoot a gun, fight properly (learn actual martial arts), and stuff. He's been learning ASL but is extremely rusty and only knows a few words/sentences. Someone reteach this idiot. Ammy is...meh. I don't have too many plans with her at the time. She kinda just drifts where the wind takes her and does her own thing.

Chip Abaroa is a ten-year-old part-demon kid from an urban fantasy universe. They're somewhat shy and skittish but starting to come out of their shell, which has mostly resulted in a lot more impulsive mischief and maybe a few sullen snipes at people they view as edging in on their friendship real estate. Not always the quickest to pick up on things, Chip tends to make assumptions very fast and cling to them pretty fiercely but is also genuinely curious about things they don't understand. (Especially aliens. Holy crap they didn't know there are so many space people around this is SO COOL.) Also, they use they/them pronouns, so please remember that when tagging them!

Edward Elric is a reclusive, gruff asshole with a heart of gold that has a hundred problems and constant bouncing between worlds is like half of them. He's bounced from Amestris to pre-WWII Germany to a little game called Ryslig (where he picked up an impressive new look) before landing here on Life Aftr and becoming kind of tired of everything. He often helps out around the Denny and has recently been attempting to kick a nasty habit of hiding in whatever bottle he can find, which has had...mixed results? Self-care is hard, guys.

Chip is mostly running around being a dumb kid lately, and I have no particular plans with them for the month as I'm trying to catch up on...a lot of backtags, wheeze. However I'm absolutely open to new CR!

Edward needs a giant OOC kick back into the fray of things, so I'm going to try and focus on him this month! He's got an old game-mate returning this month, so that's exciting, but also I'd love to rekindle older CR or start new things! Fight buddies, science buddies, dumb bullshit, come hit me up!

Tell us about them:
Lup is an elven wizard from the DnD podcast The Adventure Zone. She's a loud and hot-headed but generally friendly type whose specialty is blowing shit up and who wears her emotions on her ears. Inventor of LupNet (the Farspeech Stones network) and accomplished fantasy NASA astronaut brought here from a century long mission to save all of reality. She runs Elf Walmart with her identical twin Taako and lives with him, his boyfriend, their adopted goblin Ren and their fuckbillion animals in a tent in the fucking woods like the horrible garbage raccoons they all are.

Five is a 58-year-old time travelling apocalypse survivor and assassin who recently got stuck in his 13-year-old body. He was in the middle of trying to stop aforementioned apocalypse and herding his six dysfunctional siblings into being some semblance of competent when he shows up here, so that sucks! He has more bitterness and murderous urges than can fit in such a tiny adorable body and the first person who tries to refuse him booze is gonna get shanked. Also, his superpower is teleportation so don't even try to pick him up.


Current plans:
Lup has had a rough time basically ever since half her CR died last summer, and the shadow event this January made her have to face some unfortunate things about herself. Then I dropped all the balls on actually dealing with any of that and now Barry and Chara are gone too. So I'm gonna have to find some way to pick these balls back up and shovel all these emotions. She kind of needs a win, to feel like her actions matter, and also just hugs in general probably. She is usually good for explorations also.

Five survived for like 40 years in a post-apocalyptic wasteland by himself, so Enso is basically a spa day in comparison. The real trouble will be finding enough coffee and alcohol to keep him going. And the being really bad at forming connections with other people thing. He is a sarcastic condescending little shit who tends to solve his problems with violence, so negative CR is probably likely. I imagine he's gonna end up haunting the Denny and the library a lot, pretending he doesn't want to be around people. He'll probably hole up in a monkey nest and just blink into various houses and establishments to steal shit because what are you gonna do about it??

Tell us about them: Bakura is a ~Mysterious Transfer student~ who loves games, especially TRPGs/D&D type games. He had a brief stint in Syn where he made friends with Death of Discworld and found out the the worlds of Final Fantasy were real and his head nearly exploded with nerd glee. He has since decided that all worlds in fantasy are real somewhere and that's the best thing ever.

Current plans: Once my brain is functional, he's gonna be a giant nerd at everything, like he do. (He brought his D&D dice with him. They were in his travel bag. Along with graph paper. Two guesses what he'll be doing with that :D )

Tell us about yourself: CEST, she/her. Teaches English as a foreign language in the north of Spain to kids and teenagers. My time schedule has been pretty tough as of lately because two sets of exams and I also had to write reports for students. I am hoping shit calms down after Easter because fewer students in general towards the summer and Jan-April tends to be the worst part of the year.
Character: Zidane Tribal atailoftwoworlds. Protagonist of Final Fantasy IX and if you don't know what Final Fantasy is then you've been living under a rock.

Tell us about them: Zidane is a 16 year old perky kid who back home was a member of a band of thieves that posed as an acting troupe as a cover up for their illegal activities. He's cheerful, mischievous, is willing to put himself at risk to help his friends out and is full of optimism. He does get distracted a lot by girls though which often annoys other people. Zidane also has a tail and no you can't pull it unless you want your butt kicked.

Current plans: I'm open to all CR - friends, enemies, people who will snark back at him on his girl obsession, etc. I'd like him to open up a bit more too. Zidane's a cheerful kid and quite good at giving good insight but he only recently learnt that he has to talk about his issues too and it's something he's slowly trying to put into practice. I'd also like adventure shenanigans, which he's done a bit of.

More importantly though, he's going to try and see if he can establish a theatre on the islands and is looking for anyone who can work there - whether potential actors, musicians, artists who can paint scenery or those who can create special effects. It will take a while to get going but it'll have tons of CR potential for everyone so I'm definitely gung ho for plotting that!

as far as things i do goes, i like writing and drawing when i can use my hands for such things, and i alson really like making playlists that i publish sometimes bc while i cant make music i uh love it a lot. my main fandoms right now are critical role, the umbrella academy (netflix), uhhh horror movies and random stuff and a lot of varying types of podcasts (mostly humor focused, both fiction and nonfiction).

Tell us about them: jester is a cleric of the traveler, and takes her faith very seriously. it's just that her faith involves things like graffitiing dicks everywhere and playing as many pranks as possible. she's a bundle of chaos in a sapphire blue tiefling package, but she's also incredibly friendly and empathetic towards others.

she's pretty easy to get cr with because she'll just barrel in anywhere for any reason and start chatting the place up, so if you're looking for someone to break through a more reserved character's walls? look no further. jester is here with a fucking sledgehammer.

Current plans: due to my aforementioned rl issues going on i've been a little behind on getting jester more involved in general! i plan on hitting backtags up at my own pace as pain permits, but if you have any need for say, a healer or help with exploration or some kind of project or anything, jester is ALWAYS down for ANYTHING.

Tell us about them:

MIRA is a girl in her super early twenties who comes from Washington state. She grew up in France, and later moved to the states. Her world is pretty damn shitty in that it sees people with abilities as a threat; therefore, it works to sort of "poison" people's minds, but only those without powers. In spite of all this, Mira reminds kind and caring, even if she has trust issues and refuses to talk about her problems. She's willing to take on others' burdens, though, and she internalizes. A lot. Ever since coming to LifeAftr, though, she's gotten more paranoid and is trying to teach herself to distance herself from people she cares about, just enough that she won't be devastated when they leave. She is... a little better about this due to previous events, so that's good, at least!! She also has a corgi and a cat, so come play with them!

SHIRO a soldier and has been through a ton of shit including: Being a gladiator! Being experimented on! Having his arm removed and replaced with an alien prosthetic! Nearly dying several times! Eating shit in each season opening! Needless to say, all of this has built up and he has a significant amount of trauma. But it's fine. Shiro is still compassionate and strives to make everyone around him feel comfortable. He's also a natural leader and values teamwork.

Current plans: I recently just came off hiatus, so! Let's do some search requests. Aside from that I'm just wingin' it.

During the course of fighting video-game-based disease through corporate espionage, he learns the hard way that you die if your suit's HP reaches zero and tl;dr he's fairly certain this is the afterlife.

He's also able to breathe fire, read minds, and use basic telekinesis type skills.
