OOC INTRO: JUNE

State of the Game
Hello and welcome to our newest arrivals! And to those of you checking in on the state of things - welcome back! Besides some slight trouble with the local network, May was probably a net improvement, with the introduction of the island of Io. The island's deity, the Avatar of Celebration, loves the opportunity to give everyone there a good a time. So if you haven't explored the island's many attractions yet, you might enjoy doing so. It's worth the chance to relax, in any case.

We've loved the feedback we've gotten about the game thus far, positive and negative, and encourage you to contact us whenever you feel it is necessary!

Our intro log will be going up on the comms on June 4th. Until then, a few quick points:

1. Io. We recommend that anyone new to the game take the opportunity to read up on the island of Io. The island will be remaining for the next month at least, so if you have any business that needs doing there, be sure to get it in during the month of June!

2. Network Update. As of May 30th, the Stones of Farspeech are now less Stones and more akin to phones, as they are capable of texting and emojis! This should make things easier for new arrivals, won't it?

In the meantime, feel free to use this post as an OOC intro and CR meme for the month of June - for new players to introduce themselves, for old players to meet and greet, and for general plotting to occur! If you want to chat or keep up with game updates, we also have both a plurk and a discord channel!

Tell us about them: Shiro is a former paladin, current captain back home! He spent a year as a soul inside a giant mechanical cat but he's... fine. Allegedly. Despite all his baggage he's very kind and considerate, and if you're a friend, he'll always be there for you. Currently he's pretty okay! He has his pals and his boyfriend, though with Lance just leaving, he's a little... sad. He's good at clamming up his feelings though, and he's a master of deflection. Nice.

Mira is an original character who comes from a world that has its own defense against people with powers! But she's adjusting well-ish here, even though she's developed some paranoia. She's currently trying to keep her head up, because her boyfriend just left--so she'll be a little out of sorts. But talking about your feelings, what is that? She'll be around party island and try to keep herself busy to not dwell on the sads.

Tell us about them: Max is basically a full fledged robot or an omnic in his world. He's basically a sentient being that owns a lot of businesses and may or may not be into illegal shit like money laundering. He's overall a rather mysterious character in canon still, not much info has been detailed about him or his goals. But he's basically a smooth talking, business man, whose loyalties are rather ambiguous. Aka he sketchy af and doing business with him is both bad and good, so good luck!
Current plans: Any CR at the moment is good for me! He could go for both but I mainly just want to get his footing here. I might have him open up a trading business or something in the future?! But who knows.

Permissions: I have one that's in the process of being created, so for now please let me know if you would like to opt out of any stuff involving severe child abuse, violence, vigilantism, etc. His canon is a trip.

Tell us about them: Diego is the lovechild of Daredevil and Batman, except nowhere near as cool as either of them. After being raised in a horrific environment by a total dick, he's a boxer and janitor who puts on a domino mask and a bondage harness full of knives and fights crime at night as a vigilante. He has the ability to curve anything he throws so he never misses, but that's been nerfed to 5 times a day in game. Which is going to hurt him in his angry little soul. Did I mention he changes all his emotions into anger? Also has a stuttering problem when he's emotional, is a mama's boy, and is secretly very very softe on the inside.

Current plans: Everything! Particularly, right now, I'm excited for him to find out about that nerf and actually miss when he throws a knife and have a mental breakdown about it. He's going to probably spend a lot of time babysitting his brothers Klaus and Ben and pretending to not babysit his brother Five. But I desperately want cross-fandom people to banter with him or be frienemies or BE ADOPTED, especially since he tends to be more open/friendly/nice with people who aren't his siblings. Like really I just want Diego to adopt a horde of people to get overprotective and annoyed at. Please.

Did run around with duct tape holding his broken bones together for a while, but they've healed up now. Wears his usual ratty pants and this stupid shirt most of the time. Everyone can totally see his hipbones. (THINK OF THE CHILDREN, BUDDY.) And he has no shoes. Shoes are for everyone else. Will talk your ear off about nothing and be as helpful as possible. Current plans: Not much planned out for this month. His only survival skills are cooking/preparing flour the old-fashioned way and such, though he could learn just about anything. He's getting closer to his one year island vacay anniversary and not at all happy about it. Not. At. All. No set routine, he ambles around and visits with people or cooks occasionally at the Denny. Also likes the library a lot.

Tell us about them:

TIM has got troubled thoughts and the self-esteem to match. He's a depressed chainsmoker from a web series called Marble Hornets (aka that one slender man webseries that Started It All) and a CRAU from sol_raveh. He tries very hard and does generally mean well, but struggles a very lot with his own copious mental health issues. Has somehow progressed to being the rakish uncle of at least several children? Currently runs Denny, which is lifeaftr's sole eatery, and a carpentry place.

THE DRIFTER is from an indie game called Hyper Light Drifter. Silent, blue-skinned wanderer who communicates via sign language and/or a little bobbing sprite thing that hovers by their shoulder and projects text. They're suffering from an incurable terminal illness and are technically just dying in slow motion, but in general they're here to help!! They will happily teach sign language to anyone who asks.

AGENT WASHINGTON is from a web show called Red vs. Blue, which is a halo-based machinima about colorful space marines thats funny until it stops being funny and starts being really fucking sad. in general, he's pretty dependable in a crisis, is a highly accomplished killer, and has a hell of a Traumatic Past. but he's getting better, kinda. he has a tigerlily that wasn't supposed to be his, and actually has it a lot less together than he seems because people from home are a BIG CONCERN

Current plans: i feel like i mostly just coasted with all three of mine last month, and that wasnt fair to my close cr and castmates. so i wanna try and kick up their activity more this month!

TIM still runs Denny, which is LifeAftr's one and only restaurant. Let me know if you wanna work there! We can handwave if you want, or if you want some good establishing threads for nascent CR that definitely flies for me too. I try to get a Denny mingle up once a month if possible, unless extenuating circumstances make that unlikely or unnecessary. He also has finally established a carpentry nearby, if you need any woodcarvin done! the latest additions to denny include a handcarved chessboard, tic tac toe board, and checkers, as well as some decks of cards donated by héctor and connor!

THE DRIFTER is still kind of mopey since the guardian vanished and is still unpacking a lot of their shit. it's slow going, but...they backslid a little last month, and it wasn't great. maybe now that we have texting they'll actually communicate a little better. basically they want to be DOING THINGS ALWAYS and it'll be nice if someone can force or trick them into just. sitting down to Chill lmao

WASH is doing the vague coping thing and its not....AS terrible as expected. he still wants to help build a gym, but those plans might fall to the wayside since CAROLINA IS BACK??? OH FUCK, YALL,

Tell us about them: Shounen hero thief with a monkey tail who likes pretty women and is famous for saving people's lives and helping people out just because. Not the politest person ever but Zidane's a pretty amiable person and a loyal friend who is there for you. Currently he is doing okay despite things he'd rather talk about in his own time being revealed on the network. He's missing home but he's trying to stay optimistic. He's also good at pretending nothing is wrong but he's trying to be better at not doing this (easier if he knows you well enough to let some stuff out).

Oh, and since there are a lot of robots and otherwise artificial people here I guess I could mention that he's from an artificial race and made to be some bloodthirsty emissary of death and war but he turned out nice and pretty stable thanks to 'sibling' jealousy. He hasn't told anyone in LifeAfter of this yet though.

Current plans: Partly I'm going to wait until the announcements are up but thanks to the new text and emoji function, I do plan to have Zidane dicking around with it (because he's 16 and he doesn't have that sort of technology back on Gaia so shiny new toy sort of).

Otherwise, he spends time hunting and gathering stuff with his very friendly pet lorby Blank (who will be very friendly and want pets and who likes food a lot but will screech at the top of his voice until you're unconscious if you try to harm his master). He gives some of the stuff he's found to other islanders so feel free to handwave that. He can also be found at the library looking for material for the theatre he's planning to open up. Or hanging around at the Denny ready to play cards or any games. And if you have any CR with him he might visit you to check up on you. FEEL FREE TO ASSUME HE'S VISITED YOU.

Tell us about them: Former Freelancer in Project Freelancer, she is a bit uptight (hence the username), but after meeting the Reds and the Blues, and trying to use them to hunt down and kill her father the Director, she has learned a thing or two. She will remember her previous stay here, and be super confused, and has a coconut, so be ware. 8) But she has mellowed a little since PFL. Still doesn't do idiots too well, but she tends to be more bark and bite. Wants to be on the right side like she thought that she was in Freelancer. Currently from her retirement in canon, but had a bit of a hard time adjusting. She likes to keep busy and remain in fighting condition. Don't mess with those that she considers family, and you're all good. I do use a PB for her, just to give her more icons that aren't all in her suit, but she does tend to wear said suit.

Current plans: Anything! I am fine with Carolina rubbing people the wrong way, as she isn't sunshine and lollipops. She actively tries not to fall back in to her old ways, but in certain situations, that can certainly rear its ugly head. She will help, but more in a subtle way and not being I SAVED YOU. Rather, take care of the issue, and move on. She'd get on slightly better with more mature people, but open to having her be annoyed. Going to be a bit miffed and pissed as to wtf is going on, and why the heck is she not where she thought that she was.

Connor Murphy looks like he doesn’t have his shit together and to be fair he doesn’t have all of it together but he has a lot more of it together than you would think given that he’s in possession of a number of useful skills and also an obsessive note-taker. He’s also in possession of most of the game’s drugs, which include weed and now shrooms. Why is he cultivating a hallucinogen when he regularly does that anyway? Because like I said, he doesn’t have all his shit together. Just most of it. Now has an inbox for horrible iStone shenanigans. Or just general whatever.

Ben Hargreeves, on the other hand, looks like he should have his shit together and has absolutely none of it together. He just recently stopped being a ghost and realistically has not particularly matured past when he was last alive as a teenager. He doesn’t know how to cook and has been surviving by mostly eating fruit and drinking mana pool water, he keeps trying to keep Klaus out of trouble and it doesn’t work very well, and he just. Is not very good at being living again yet? Doesn’t actually know what a phone is, but also has an inbox.

Current plans:

Connor is having a birthday at the end of the month. He will not actually tell anybody this, but he will be asking if anybody would want to have a like . . . well, tbh he’s just mad that he was a child for 4/20 and wants to have a weed party. He’s also far more useful than he looks and has a boat.

Ben got a new brother this month and is basically just. Learning how to be a human. I’m gonna try to get him out there this month so hit me up if you want him anywhere or have anything specific in mind! This last month was mostly him, sitting in his house, kind of unclear on the fact that he does not actually have to wait for Klaus to go and do things now.

Permissions: No permissions post needed! The one power that Rin has that can affect other people requires some pretty extensive plotting.
Tell us about them: RIN IS A GOOD BOY!!! He’s also the half-demon bastard son of Satan, but that doesn’t prevent him from being a Very Good Boy. He spent two years traveling with a faerie carnival so now he’s basically also a changeling. What is he good at?? FIRE! COOKING! And GIVING YOUR CHARACTERS MAGIC. Well. For like an hour. Every few days. Maybe. His app is [ HERE ] if you wanna take a gander!
Additionally, he’s going to be glamoured until he gets more comfortable around everyone and give me time to finish his reference so he’ll mostly look like his early canon self to most people (black hair, black tail, pointy ears, otherwise pretty human). He also comes with his katana and a Pokémon (a flygon named Nosh!) and his knapsack has some goodies in it; some rock candy, a hunting knife, some cloth, and some soap! YAY.

Tell us about them: Kravitz is a bounty hunter of the Raven Queen, the goddess of death, and basically the Grim Reaper. Has a lot of problems with all this death people keep getting into. He's been here over a year already and is making his best effort to be less uptight, but old habits die hard, especially when those habits are a thousand years old or more. He's a very fancy very tired Mess.

Beau on the other hand is a monk of the Cobalt Soul, a monk order dedicated to exposing the truth out of a lying, corrupt world. But uhh... she's never been the best at being a good monk. Beau is messy, oft directionless, but has a good heart under all that punching and abrasiveness she's working to try and show more of. Very gay, will flirt with cute ladies, will suplex shitty men.

Current plans: Beau has been enjoying herself a LOT on Io and does not intend to stop. Kravitz should have a network post fairly soon actually about history and data collection- catch him on his new iStone that he truly has no idea how to operate oh god help him.

When he ends up being forced to interact with people his defense mechanism tend to flare up and he can be a consummate asshole and purposefully push people's buttons. Get to know him an you're realize he's actually a really caring guy who has been doing random acts of anonymous kindness throughout the islands for a while.

Tell us about them: SHE IS JUST TRYING HER BEST, OKAY. as mentioned, yuri is an exorcist and has been in training since her guardians died in a huge fire when she was a little kid (this was after being abandoned by her mother as a baby) and is just in love with the world and everything in it which includes demons. she's also the future mother of satan's bastard children so, yeah, go her.
Current plans: well both her her children are here so she's going to have to address that elephant in the room (and try not to cry again) before really figuring out how everything else is going to go.

Tell us about them: Izuku's a friendly, anxious nerd child with self-sacrificing tendencies, an empty hole where his self-esteem should be, and a penchant for thinking out loud. He's a high school superhero-in-training, with a Superpower Of Great Importance that was passed down to him from his heroic idol, so, you know, no pressure! He's also just in general a huge superpower and superhero otaku (like, "legit called out as a 'hero otaku' in canon" and everything), studying them almost excessively and ready to launch into commentary or trivia with minimal prompting. In fact, his world is so saturated with superpowers and he's so invested in studying them that it's very, very hard to phase him with "abnormal" things.

Current plans: I don't have any real solid plans just yet for this month. In general, Izuku can usually be found either engaging in some kind of fitness regimen somewhere around the housing Islets (and Io, while it's here), doing research at the Library, or just out and about exploring. He's also functionally living at the Io bathhouses for the time being, because relaxing hot baths yes please.

Tell us about them: Your typical anxious teen nerd except he's a fire breathing dragon. He has a lot of issues with destiny and self-esteem and what it means when you're supposed to save the world but you're terrible at almost everything. He's been on the island about 3 months and is still not super thrilled about it but at least there's a library.

Character: Erika Fisher bitch4bitch
Permissions: Here! Erika can be pretty abrasive and sometimes violent, so let me know if you’d rather avoid getting in fights with her or the like.

Tell us about them: Erika was, in her original modern fantasy world, a club bouncer and also occasional hired muscle/assassin. Don't worry about it. She has also been a werewolf for her whole life, and has come to actively lean into her world's broad perception of werewolves as boisterous and violent - which she's found she's pretty good at. In her opinion, being tall and buff and having fangs makes intimidation a pretty obvious form of problem-solving anyway.

As you can probably guess, Erika can be pretty flippant and abrasive. She doesn't usually approach interactions expecting a fight (unless it's with someone she already dislikes), but she's not prone to de-escalation if things start to move in a more confrontational direction. On the other hand, she can be very personable and friendly toward people who react well to her particular attitude and sense of humor.

Erika has gradually been settling into her position of responsibility over Chip, her cousin's kid who she's placed herself as the guardian of in their dad's absence. The fact that she's getting used to looking after them also means she can ease up a little on stressing over them, so she may start spending more time at the Denny and looking into projects and activities to get involved in.

Also every month she does spend a night running around Enso as a massive hyena-dog-thing, and might have been leaving gifts of fruit/pretty shells/prey (if the player is cool with that) on the doorsteps of people who she likes, and whose living spaces she knows the locations of. Helping!

Current plans: Erika is always up for making more friends, particularly those she can talk fashion and/or shit-talk people with. Potential sparring partners would be fantastic, too! Meanwhile, if anyone would like to get their character into a verbal or physical fight, Erika is very available for that. She doesn’t have much in the way of magic or superpowers to the degree some people might, but she does have enhanced strength, a knife, and brass knuckles, and is very confident in her ability to work with just those.

Character: Ginko onegreeneye
Permissions: Here! Please note that Ginko’s canon involves body/eye horror, and a lot of themes relating to mental illness, child abuse, and suicide; additionally, the last game he was in involved MORE body horror, gore, and cannibalism. If you’d like to avoid any of those topics, please let me know on his permissions!

Tell us about them: Ginko originally came from a fairly low-key, naturalistic horror setting, where he used his expertise regarding the ethereal creatures populating his world to help those around him and make a living. Then he ended up in Ryslig, a much less low-key horror game that left him turned into a furry, crystal-studded monster with even more self-esteem problems than he already had.

Ginko can be kind of withdrawn and distant, and frequently rude (more by accident and lack of social competence than malice), but he'll fairly readily admit to and demonstrate his concern for others; though he's reluctant to open up about himself in any capacity, he can become attached to others (particularly children) very quickly, to the point of being kind of over-invested in others' safety. At the same time, he feels strongly about respecting and acknowledging nature for what it is, and might get testy if others get too enthusiastic about prioritizing people's safety/convenience over the other living things around them.

Current plans: In general, Ginko going to be looking for more to do, outside of just looking after his tiny garden and keeping the plant tiger that he guesses is “his” now out of trouble. He will likely be getting involved with Faust’s clinic!

Additionally, if anyone has a child/teen that needs adopting, Ginko is one of the many dad options available (even if he won't admit that a Dad is what he is). That said, he could also benefit from more adult friends to hang out with, especially if he can talk nerd shit or science with them, maybe compare notes on the weirdass animals here.

I also absolutely welcome negative CR, though that's kind of hard mode; Ginko is often too forgiving for his own good, and if he does come to dislike someone he'll be inclined to just avoid them (partly to prevent his Monster Instincts from making things worse).

Tell us about them: Fjord is another one of those silly DnD characters from a show that caught itself a cult following - Critical Role ( Campaign 2 )! He's a twunky half-orc warlock sword-boy voiced and played by the talented Travis Willingham. You can hear a sample of his smoov fantasy-Texas accent and watch a funny clip here!

As far as DnD murderhobos go, he's a good enough guy. He's not going to try and murder you for loot outright, anyway! Fjord's biggest thing is that he's a decent actor and an incredible imitation artist. He's charismatic and polite enough he can usually talk his party out of tight spots, be it through persuasion, deception... or intimidation:




He was once a sailor, so I imagine he might bring some of those skills to the table as well during his stay in LifeAftr. Fjord's generally a pretty level-headed and strategic dude, barring a few things. One, the man can't resist being curious about magic shit, a memorable instance being the time he touched something in a wizard's library and forced his party to fight a dragon. Nice going, Fjord. He is also known for occasionally thinking he's a suitable meat shield for the group and getting his ass handed to him.

Tell us about them: Faust is LifeAftr's local 9'3" lanky elderly Chinese man with a paper bag on his head. He also just so happens to be one of the only trained medical professionals on the isles. (He would've brought his medical license with him if he could, honest!) Fortunately, whenever he's not being absolutely ridiculous and acting worryingly like a cryptid, he's patching up injuries and offering sage advice from his decades worth of travelling the world as a wandering doctor. Don't be fooled by the jester-like persona he wears - he takes his job completely seriously.
Also, he has a miniature familiar version of himself. Don't ask.

jester is a leetle blue tiefling that is a devoted follower of her god known only as the traveler. she hasn't heard from him since she's been here, but like, he's probably just being sneaky, he's such a funny guy. she's got pamphlets if you're interested, but also she mostly engages in religious activity via... pranks. this can range from graffiti of cartoon dicks in the most unlikely locations, to rearranging everything in a place of business to confuse customer and worker alike, to you know, the classic prank material. although she's a trickster domain cleric, she's surprisingly earnest and open, though there's a few things she keeps close to her chest.

klaus is ostensibly human, but also was born with the ability to see and interact with ghosts, which is not very fun for him because he also happens to be fucking terrified of ghosts. he's like a human experiment where fate was like, hey i wonder how much ptsd i can fit in one dude? he met god once and she told him he sucked. anyway, he's heavily addicted to E V E R Y T H I N G (every drug, every alcohol, every nicotine) and has sort of vowed to quit, but. he's not doing well! he's also supremely dtf for like any reason because of emotional issues so that's fun. sorry about him.

Current plans: currently just. waiting for the other shoe to drop cause klaus just hit a big snag in his attempts at addiction recovery, namely he's doing a lot of shrooms and drinking a lot of booze and soon weed will be on the table too. it's a time. consequences are not gonna be good there.

also jester was going for a no-storytelling 0% lifeaftr speedrun but she broke the run by overhearing kravitz publicly drag her, so she retaliated by making him look like an ass. so now she's got 1 story. unsure if i want to keep it to 1 or just like, have her start using storytellings as a methodology to prank? we will see.

both of my buffoons are pretty easy for cr though. they're super outgoing and tend to want to befriend everyone in sight because i guess i only play people who are supremely afraid of being alone now.
