OOC INTRO: DECEMBER

State of the Game
Hello again, islanders, and welcome newcomers! November saw the introduction of our first island outside the mainland, Monsun, which has brought tides of change both good and bad to the relationships between our player characters, between NPCs, and more! We heavily encourage newcomers to read up on the psychological effects of Monsun, as this will be relevant in the intro log. We've loved the feedback we've gotten about the game thus far, positive and negative, and encourage you to contact us whenever you feel it is necessary!

Our intro log will be going up on the comms on December 3rd. Until then, a few quick points:

1. Deaths. Remember that, in the event that your character perishes, to let us know so that we can take a note of it, whether or not it counts for your character's total death count! If you're having trouble thinking of a penalty, we can definitely provide one for you. Remember to use the Deaths page for Death Penalty removal as well, once that time is up!

2. Communication. Due to some resourcefulness and the ingenuity of our resident Severs-the-Threads player (stoleyoursweetroll), we have a beautiful new network community (lifenet) for your use! Bear in mind that the network currently operates in more of a bulletin board capacity, with all the benefits and drawbacks that entails! Be sure to join this new comm if you haven't already!

3. AC. We would also like to take this opportunity to remind people to tag their characters in the comms. This is the only compulsory form of AC we have, but after the first few months, we are going to stop warning people for forgetting to tag their character. Characters who fail AC will be swept. An additional reminder, also, to make use of the drop post should your time with LifeAftr come at an end instead of simply idling out!

In the meantime, feel free to use this post as an OOC intro and CR meme for the month of December - for new players to introduce themselves, for old players to meet and greet, and for general plotting to occur! If you want to chat or keep up with game updates, we also have both a plurk and a discord channel!

Tell us about them: Zacharie is a merchant looking to trade some of his wares he showed up with for the materials to make a shack a home. By which he supposes he means he wants to live decently as long as he keeps living, much to his surprise. Zacharie is going to be a very content and easygoing guy on this island-- and slowly, it'll sink in no matter how many fusterclucks there are, how much better it was than back home.
Current plans: Zacharie wants to get some trade going! Mostly, this will just be between you and him. He will be a dedicated forager and collect as many knick-knacks as possible. He arrived with several 'cure wounds/poison' items, along with two baseball bats that he'd be willing to trade as weapons/for besbaw.

CHARA is a sassy eleven year old going on fifty with a dark past and a current, wild plan to continue going by the alias Kidwun. Previously on YuGiOh killed themself off in their last game by throwing themself into a machine that erased them from space and time, so they're a little salty at like... existence? In general?

KARAMATSU is a total NEET who just wants to have a good time and keeps finding serious difficulty in doing that. Completely inept a social everything, he's uh... he's painful. But also relatively harmless.


Current plans: Due to starting a new job and working full-time during the training period, I'm totally up to plot but don't have many plans of my own! Hopefully I'll be able to get Chara over to Monsun at some point so everyone can meet Chara "I died for my people I am Justice I am Kindness" Dreemurr, but that aside...hit me bbs. Luna is a spunky, peppy kid from a sunny and bright set of islands in the middle of the Poke-Ocean. She's very hung-ho, and commonly forward about her positive way of thinking. She lives in a shack with her large, poke-coworker, Guzma (yallstupid) and her two poke-puppers, Ninetales (Nina) and Lycanroc (Chiffon). She's an ambitious tyke who enjoys adventure. All kinds of adventure! And all kinds of exciting situations in which SHE GETS TO MEET NEW PEOPLE AND GAIN FRANDS AND GENERALLY CONTINUE TO BE A HAPPY SMOL YES.

Current plans:

Ermrmmm! Current plans are...lay down a whole lot and admire everyone else??? I've recently had a death in the immediate family, so I'm not ultra active, and for that, I'm really sorry-- I'm so excited to be able to meet and thread with everyone here (including the new people, I'm sure!!) and I promise that despite being slow, I will tag back.

Plans for Luna are pretty simple-- I'm holding off on her heading to Monsun for now to come around as a player, but she's going to be detailing Enso and will likely be looking for people to join her! In the plans, also, is building a Pokemon Battlefield. This isn't going to be extremely professional-- but it will likely be drawn in the dirt and dug out impishly. People will be more than happy to help, but this month is all about Luna training up her team to try and form a resistance to whatever is making Lycanroc and Ninetales physically give out after the time equivalent of half a pokemon battle. You are more than welcome to come and see the strange doggos. They love people.

He currently has a bag minus a cat friend, some fake, decorative knives, a cell phone that's too water logged to do anything other than blank screen or maybe shock you, and his freebies which I will do a proper thing for then it's not 2:20am.

Tim is CRAU'd in from sol_raveh which means he hangs around a lot with fellow solumni Chara and Frisk. In short order: lots of mental health problems, lots of concentrated bitterness, and a fierce protectiveness of people he can relate to. He comes with a handy-dandy opt-out over in his permissions in the case of "holy shit zero why this serious heavy shit in your tags" so don't worry about tossing me a heads-up if you'd rather not thread about Wanting 2 Die.

The Drifter is a silent, blue-skinned wanderer suffering from an incurable illness. They are nomadic by nature, and so spend most of their time wandering around LifeAftr trying to explore and help when they can. They're nonverbal but can communicate thanks to a little floaty companion thing that's always at their side, as long as you can read. They also teach sign language for anyone who'd like to learn!

Gabe is a ding dang walking spoiler for a musical that not enough people have heard of lmao. He's a normal boy in a lot of ways and yet also manages to be a concentrated knot of an entire family's worth of Shitty Mental Health Issues boiled down into the form of one extremely bitter seventeen-year-old. If he acts bizarrely...childish, it's because he is for all intents and purposes, a child. He has an opt-out on his extremely in-progress permissions post if you wanna get a better read on what subjects might crop up when threading with him.

Current plans:

Tim is exploring Monsun and most getting a lot of Bad Side out of the deal, so he's a self-pitying sack of shit at the moment. Just. Very bad, very bad things. I'd like to get him on the west side if I can just so he can even things out some, maybe get some pleasant threads going?? He has a top-level on Monsun for anyone especially interested!

The Drifter, conversely, I'd like to get over onto the east side so y'all can see their horrible bad no-good side come to light. They have too much positive CR with too many wonderful people!!! stop that right now!!! i kid, don't stop, the drifter has never had this many friends before and they have sO MANY PEOPLE THEY WANT TO PROTECT!!!

Tell us about them: For those still unfamiliar with Undertale, Muffet is a spider monster who runs her charity bake sale with aggressive- and slightly homicidal- enthusiasm. Here on the island, she has largely translated that energy to trying to keep her fellow castaways alive and well with varying levels of success.
Current plans: Does your character want a Mom Friend, or at least a Weird Magic Aunt Friend? Do you want them to have one, regardless of their own wishes on the subject? Do you just really like weaving stuff out of silk? Please inquire with the spider lady.

Yuka's a co-apped OC with Kyouko Kougami, apped by Claire! Here's the basic deets:

- Think, like, equal parts Persona and Precure?
- She's a magical girl who goes into the dream dimension collective unconscious Imaginaerium to dungeon crawl her way to magical manifestations of people's personal issues and punches them into oblivion before they cause metaphysical problems in the real world.
- She's on a team of three, with Kyouko as her teammate / team leader / maybe-girlfriend / the actual protagonist of the story.
- She's a trans girl, but her magical girl transformation gives her a magical manifestation of her ideal body, so she's physically indistinguishable from a cis girl while transformed. Also, her transformation has no time limit, so she's gonna be transformed as often as possible.
- She recently spent some time as a Dark Magical Girl because the villain talked her into it, but she's switched back and feels real bad about it.
- Special abilities include super strength, healing magic, and physical stat buffs for other people. All of them have limited use before she has to charge them up at a mana pool.
- She has a magic gnome statue that makes people chill out.

Current plans:
Yuka is in a complicated place right now! She's reeling from her own face/heel/face turn, and also living as perma-transformed for the first time, AND is stranged on a mysterious survival island for unclear reasons. She's look for people she can trust and eventually befriend, but she has difficulty trusting strangers, so people who are good at getting others to open up are a big plus. Negative CR can be interesting too, since she's always half-expecting people to hate her anyway, but if anyone talks shit about Kyouko she will be there instantly to call them out.

In short, anything goes! Eventually I'd love some more people she gets comfortable enough around to confide her non-transformed self with, and she's really interested in people who come from worlds with radically different societies from 2017 Japan.

The plan is to embarrass Laurent as much as possible - I MEAN, UH. I actually don't have any. It's possible I did not fucking think this app through. I did not think it through at all.

Connor is . . . a mess. Just, like. The kind of person who spends his stories on nail polish but hasn't brushed his hair in a month and that's all you need to know about him probably. He has stuff and permissions too so there's that at least.

Current plans:

Because Connor is king of absolutely garbage life choices, he's building a raft which he is absolutely going to try and sail to Monsun, potentially multiple times, until he gets there. If you're like "that's absolutely fucking idiotic," you might want to like. Stop him? Tell him it's a bad idea? Hope that he listens and doesn't do it out of spite? (He will probably do it out of spite. Self care is doing things out of spite and anger.)

Anyway! Monsun plotting!! Connor, uh. Should you want The Worst Connor, that's Connor all the time actually. Except bonus: he is now actively incapable of believing people want to help him because his paranoia is ramped up to 11! On the other end, ah. You'll get shades of the Connor that was in his public story for November: he's bright, sunny, and absolutely pushing down his own feelings to make things easier on everyone.

Tell us about them: Terra is the female protag of FF6, a former soldier of the evil Empire who was forced into it through mind control that took away all of her memories. She first arrived very nervous and hesitant around strangers here, but thanks to several positive influence, notably the FFXV Chocobros, she's adjusting to life on the islets a bit better. Though she still tends to keep to herself and has some pretty nasty nightmares. As a result she tends to keep to herself a lot lately, so CR new and old is liable to find her wandering around the woods or sitting out on the beach. She did recently come back from a rather DISASTEROUS expedition, and she's kind of on the fence regarding her opinion of the Storyteller but ultimately she's... doing.. f i i i n e...?
Current plans: I don't have any plans, beyond letting her run into other people and try to broaden her CR which is tinier than a tiny thing.

Tell us about them: Gobbet is an ork from the Shadowrun universe, specifically the game Shadowrun: Hong Kong. She's 19 and a cool bean, come get cr with your favorite food obsessed, rat-loving, magic-using gal! No but for real, she's very laid back and loves adventuring. She has a sweet scouting bonus that gives her scouting parties extra resources, so take her with you!
Current plans: Currently Gobbet is on Monsun, like many of the intrepid explorers of LifeAftr. Her Monsun plotting info is here if you want to look it over. Currently she's looking for a way back to the island of Enso, so if anyone who knows where a mana pool is wants to clue her in, I'm always game for cr. My goals for Gobbet are just gather cr, explore as much as possible, repeat for infinity.

Tell us about them: Chris is some asshole from the Canadian wilderness who just died on a snowy mountainside and woke up in a tropical island. He's literally the sandbox survivor from The Long Dark. His app is on his journal navigation if you want to read the backstory! Chris himself is a skilled survivorman with tons of experience in bushcraft and sustainable off-the-grid living. This is where he'll shine and be happy to do so.
Current plans: He needs to get settled, find a home, start working on making the islets a hub of sustainable resources, and get as much CR as he can. Anyone interested in showing him around the island, briefing him on the available resources, or otherwise helping him adjust is welcome to approach him once the intro log is up and he's in game.

Tell us about yourself: Eastern time, solid game, and a government employee with the threat of a shutdown looming, so forgive my stress...

Character: Roy Greenhilt (greatcleavage)
Permissions: None for Roy, I don't think he's too problematic, but feedback is always welcome.
Tell us about them: Roy is... hoo boy, Roy is not handling this whole adventure well. Being the leader sort and used to having a specific goal to work towards, Roy is spending his time trying to organize things without much success. Initially inclined to give the Storyteller the benefit of the doubt, he is now suspicious of their motives and behavior to a significant extent (and the Storyteller is picking on him, in his view, as well as insisting he violate his alignment, so that makes it all the worse.)

But look past all that and Roy is honestly a decent, Good man who does his very best to be respectful, compassionate, and generally a positive force. That doesn't mean he succeeds; he has more than his share of flaws. But he's not a bad guy if you get to know him.

Current plans: Roy has done some Monsun exploring, and in fact he, Muffet, and Keaton discovered a temple on an island not easy to reach there! A group effort will be needed to get over there, so come on and help! He's staying on the western side of the island, and thus getting his good traits magnified, so now's an excellent time to run into him. Back on Enso, he's establishing a compound around the mana pool in the former ape area. For now it consists of bludrocs in a coop and some storage areas, but he'd like help expanding and fortifying it, as well as improving his constructions.

I'd like to expand his positive CR in the future, and Monsun offers an excellent opportunity, so hit me up.

Tell us about them: Maridian is honestly kinda nutty, but you would be too if you got hit in the face as much as he did... Here in LifeAftr he's settled in to cooking and occasional adventuring. There's a great deal more he CAN do, but right now, he just isn't... for any number of reasons.

Current plans: Mar will be beginning cooking lessons, once the groups all consolidate back on Enso and aren't, you know, stuck. For now he's roaming about Monsun with not much purpose beyond exploring, and can be found on either side of the island. He's open for anything, so dive in!

Tell us about them: Ginko is a former paranormal pest control guy from alternate-history late-1800s Japan, then he got transported to fake 1920s Europe and turned into an angry rock monster. Now he's here and he's Very Tired. In general, Ginko is a sweet if someone distant guy with a tendency to worry about people (especially kids), though monster changes mean he gets frustrated/lashes out a little more easily than he used to. He also has a self-sacrificial streak a mile wide, it's Kind Of Bad.
Current plans: Ginko is going to be looking into investigating the island's plants for potential medicinal uses! As such, he'll both be wanting to run simple tests with unfamiliar plants and explore to find any new species they hadn't previously found on the island.

Current plans: Sev is on a roll for helping island society out lately, between establishing the message board and helping Maka and Chip find a Monsun mana pool. I'd love to keep that momentum going by opening her up to help out people who might need a little Survival 101 - she can teach archery, swordy things, stealy things, or she can put some useful enchantments on clothing/armor/jewellery/weapons. I'm super open to negative CR, too! Her habit of not taking things seriously when they maybe should be taken seriously isn't always a good thing, so I'd love to see it clashing more with the Morally Upright and Hotheaded types.

Asriel is trying his very best to be a kind, gentle monster to anyone who needs it, but he's not as completely unlike Flowey as he wants people to think - he's very lonely and hurting, and tends to cling, project, and lash out when it gets real bad.
Current plans: hoooooo this boy needs some help CRwise. Finding out that he doesn't get to have a second chance to do better here, combined with Everyone He Ever Cared About cutting him out of their lives, has got him pretty solidly convinced he's become too horrible and empty to deserve to be around anyone. I could SUPER USE anyone who takes well to the "take a babby under your wing" kind of CR. This kid's not gonna go much farther being completely deprived of support or patience.

Hinata Hajime (thisisourfuture): Hinata is a mostly typical japanese highschooler if you look past he's seen a lot of death and violence. He carries a lot of horrors in him but keeps soldiering on. He reaches out to others to under them and the world around him.
Keith (focusedroar): Keith is a hybrid of human and alien, with a mix of problems that he keeps on the down low (not always successfully). He can be moody, argumentative, and too fixated on the end results. But in a scrape, he'll be right there to back you up.
Current plans:

Hinata - Getting a top level up for him when I have freetime. He's doing pretty poorly as all that stuff he normally keeps inside is just rearing up. You can meet him at his worse, a stressed mess of issues and anger or his best. Either way I'm building up to him facing truths he's not been asking for.
Keith - Fresh as a daisy and focused as a blade. I'll see how things stand when he's unleashed before I make too many plans.

Tell us about them:

Tataru is from the MMO Final Fantasy XIV. While her friends are often off on feats of derring-do saving the whole world or parts of it or whatever, she's there on the home front making sure that the bills are paid, everyone is kept up-to-date, and also that everyone has fabulous outfits for the road ahead. Don't be fooled by appearances, she's not a child and is willing to do some surprising things in her support role for the others. If you need someone to fuss over your heroic type who doesn't look after themselves enough, gossip your ear off, or just to make nice clothing, she's your girl.

Meanwhile Xion is from other Square Enix property, Kingdom Hearts. A very sweet child whom a lot of bad things happened to and absolutely deserved better. Except this one also comes circa the horror DWRP towerofanimus, which like a good third of you are fellow veterans of. After two years of actual hell, in which she was put through the proverbial meat grinder and came out actually the better on the other end, she was sent home with memories intact, determined to try to avert the cruel fate that canon has in store for her. And then she ended up here instead. She is going to be delighted and will deal with it wonderfully, I'm sure.

Current plans:

Not one much for exploring or adventuring or that sort of thing, Tataru will mainly be staying back on the islets where housing is located, and will be spending a lot of time working on the infrastructure there along with keeping everyone as informed as she can about what's going down on Monsun's explorations. This'll probably include poking any groups that do manage to make it back and sharing what she's learned. In the meantime though she'll be working on trying to get more farmland/supply stockpiles together. Focusing more on her own but she'll be happy to help others with theirs too, if their working on anything.

Xion, on the other hand, will be salty as fuck about being here because are you serious, really. And as a result, she will be much more interested in exploring as much as possible because she wants to go home. That being said, if she hears about the mental effects of Monsun, she will be wary and trying to take that into account, because she's run into similar(ish) things before. I'm definitely looking to get some CR of all kinds with her, but especially positive. That being said, given her circumstances, it'll probably be easier and trickier for her to open up - she's done this song and dance before so she knows teamwork is helpful but god this is not what she wanted... So be prepared for things to be bumpy.

I'm totally interested in Xion just as a character, because Xion. Both mine will be friendly and sociable, especially on the western side, so definitely an opportunity for CR -- also more active scenes are also a possibility if you want more adventure and comparatively less talking.

As for Tataru, I wonder if it might be possible for Roy to have crossed paths with her regarding his own attempts at infrastructure. Keeping track of bludroc productivity and stock would be really valuable, and something she could do easily given her knacks!

Tell us about them: In the words of someone very wise: this isn't what he signed up for when he became a gay cowboy. He's currently rolling around in Monsun having a whale of a time, but by that I mean he's deep in the woods going slowly insane because of all the Bad Feels. He lost his arm back in October and was gifted a weird robot arm so he's just kind of ???? about everything. The rules of reality are very lost on him rn.

For vague deets on anyone curious about his canon, he has a Relatively Grim past on account of being a child during The Robot Uprising, got roped into some Definitely Illegal Weapon Smuggling as a pre-teen, then was recruited into a clandestine black ops unit because he had too much potential for the offer to not be made. Edward is a veteran of Ye Olde monstergame Ryslig, and while he looks a bit different he's still very much the same hot-headed and impatient (former)
alchemist we all know and love. He's been adjusting to island life fairly well,
living with Ginko and keeping a distant eye on some of the kids running around,
and is really fucking pissed at the Storyteller both out of principle and for their recent actions.

Chip is a ten year old kid that has demon blood and about ten different types of trauma going on. They're impulsive and quick to over-react,
but if you can get past their bad temper they're a very sweet little kid that really just wants to do a little good for people. They've been staying with Asriel, and mostly just trying to keep out of trouble since the whole 'half the island mcfucking died' fiasco.

Current plans:

Ed is going to be exploring and gathering what resources he can,
but given he has literal predatory instincts and a lot of those juicy Monsun resources are on the forest side...well, there might be a bit of less kosher hunting going on.

Although Enso has been a blessing and she's learning People Are Good. She’s a lonely hooligan that wants friends, so she creeps around drawing on houses and doing more breaking and entering than a child should really do. Super cool hobbies include hunting for treasure aka garbage. Top of her class in hide and seek AND tag. Can make flower crowns. Now has a cat thanks to Ichimatsu that is with her 99.9999% of the time. Look at this good boy

Tell us about them: Commander Shepard is a space marine from the video game series Mass Effect. She's strong, capable, and has an unfortunate tendency to sacrifice her own well-being for the greater good. Shepard has been adjusting to the island life a lot better now that there is more for her to quote unquote do. All the same, it still gnaws at her that she's not back home, especially since she knows that back home is frozen but is kind of torn over how much good she would even be doing going back.
