OOC INTRO: SEPTEMBER

State of the Game
Welcome, newcomers, and hello again to the oldcomers! August was a dark time for us all - our character death tally hit new records with the latest event - but that doesn't mean you can't turn this around! You all clearly have a great deal that's been repressed and hidden. Doesn't it feel so much better to have that all out in the open?

...well, we thought so.

We've loved the feedback we've gotten about the game thus far, positive and negative, and encourage you to contact us whenever you feel it is necessary!

Our intro log will be going up on the comms on September 4th. Until then, a few quick points:

1. Umui. The island of Umui is still present in the archipelago, and has shown no sign of departing anytime soon. There are still some pockets of exploration to be had, and certain characters don't seem to want to say goodbye to ARUM-25 just yet. You might also be interested in looking over the information players have helped consolidate in regards to what is this island's...deal, exactly.

1. Deaths. Remember that, in the event of your character's death, to let us know so we can account for it. Don't forget to request the removal of your death penalty!

3. New Island. On September 10th, the fourth island the Storyteller promised will be making its debut! This one, if you recall, is laden with a great deal of animals, though the risks and dangers of this new land are not yet known. You can expect more information on what the latest island will entail soon!

In the meantime, feel free to use this post as an OOC intro and CR meme for the month of August - for new players to introduce themselves, for old players to meet and greet, and for general plotting to occur! If you want to chat or keep up with game updates, we also have both a plurk and a discord channel!

Tell us about them: Ann is a 16-year-old (going on 17 in November) girl who doesn't take shit from anyone. She's been through a Lot in canon but uses her experiences to help others! Tell us about them:

TIM is a some dude from a web series called Marble Hornets (aka that one slender man webseries that Started It All) and a CRAU from sol_raveh. Depressed chain-smoker with arsonist tendencies that have now become less "tendencies" and more "default survival mechanisms." Has somehow become the island's Birthday Distributor if you happen to not know what your birthday is, and has kind of come to adopt a great deal of stab-happy children. He's chock-full of mental health shit so feel free to give me a poke if there's anything that gets a little too Real. In general he's just...very tired, very hard on himself, but he means well, usually. He's also taken to setting things on fire when he doesn't know how to deal with them, so that's good.

THE DRIFTER is from an indie game called Hyper Light Drifter because obscure canons are, apparently, My Business. Silent, blue-skinned wanderer who communicates via sign language and/or a little bobbing sprite thing that hovers by their shoulder and projects text. They're suffering from an incurable terminal illness and starting to understand that they're getting attached to people here, big time. Oh Shit.

AGENT WASHINGTON is from a web show called Red vs. Blue, which is a halo-based machinima about colorful space soldiers thats funny until it stops being funny and starts being really fucking sad. he's a space marine who just needs a fucking nap, honestly. in general, he's pretty dependable in a crisis, is a highly accomplished killer, and has a hell of a Traumatic Past. but he's getting better, kinda. he's not happy that he's not with his team anymore, but he also has faith in them to make it just fine without his interference at this point. ain't that a bitch?

Current plans:

TIM has recently opened Denny, which is LifeAftr's one and only restaurant. Let me know if you wanna work there! We can handwave if you want, or if you want some good establishing threads for nascent CR that definitely flies for me too. I'm going to try and get a Denny mingle up once a month if possible, unless extenuating circumstances make that unlikely or unnecessary! Last month he spent time Super Fucking Dead so no mingle log went up, for example. In fairness, a lot of people were Super Fucking Dead, so it felt a little bit useless to try and get people mingling.

THE DRIFTER has been forced to take massive strides in regards to their character development in order to not die from hanahaki honesty curse and has come away realizing that they do in fact Give Many Shits about a lot of people around them!! it's confusing and theyre not sure how to handle it. theyre having a small crisis? help them. theyll probably throw themself STRAIGHT the fuck into the new island to hypercompensate for that.

WASH is wrestling with the fact that CT and Carolina are both here and all the consequences that entails. also the Director is showing up in LA and that is going to super extra fuck him up and i cant wait. hes kind of trying to take care of himself, ish, mostly for the sake of his teammates and the cr hes made thus far, but you can probably catch him like patrolling semi regularly because you can take the man out of the space military but you can’t take the space military out of the insomniac disaster, as it were

Tell us about them: She's a little dying lab experiment Gone Wrong that comes from a post apocalyptic world where humanity is like super dead. LILLIE has to expand her CR and start getting out of the shack and interacting with more than just Guzma. She has trouble approaching people, so if your character is thinking about swooping in? Do it.
DOGMEAT is new! And a dog! And I need to start having him collect supplies and start burying them in caches that will serve as his inventory once he's settled in.

I used to be an opera singer but I got tired of all the bullshit and said fuck that, and now I'm currently working on figuring out what I want to do for the rest of my career! I played CRAU Newt with CR from Haven and Hadriel when LifeAftr first opened, but had to drop due to some life issues. Now that those issues are past, I'm bringing him back clean-slate, and I'm super duper excited about it!

Permissions: Permissions Post for if Newt can recognize your character from a manga/anime/show or whatever because lbr he's a 90s kid godzilla obsessed Nerd.

Tell us about them: Newt is a genius (six doctorates) asshole scientist who has the monsters destroying the world (that he studies) tattooed all over his arms and his torso. He wears hipster glasses. He dresses like a try-hard. His tie is so skinny and his pants are so tight that they shouldn't even be qualified as a tie and pants. He's loud and brash and abrasive and will ask ten kajillion questions about everything he's curious about. He hooked up his brain to a fraction of a brain of one of the monsters that's destroying the world to simultaneously prove that he was right and that his lab partner Hermann was wrong and also to save the world (but mostly to prove that he was right and Hermann was wrong.) He's the result of a love affair between an opera singer and a piano tuner, both of whom were married to different people. Oops? He's the youngest person in history to graduate from MIT, where he also ended up teaching until he joined the PPDC because that's where all the kaiju studyin' was happening. He and his current lab partner (and drift partner) wrote "passionate and fascinating" letters to each other at one point but then they met in Stockholm and immediately hated each other. Once Newt gets interested in something, he attaches to it like a dog with a bone, and won't let go no matter how detrimental it might get. Hence him and Hermann being the only ones left in the k-science department.

Despite all this and his dickhead personality, Newt somehow ends up charming people and making friends in-game. I don't know. I can't figure it out either. So come at him, because he'll certainly come at you.

Current plans: I'm currently taking bets on how long it'll be before he irritates the Story Teller. My current guess is all of two minutes. Max.

UHHH NO BUT BASICALLY I'm going to be getting him settled? Dealing with the people that "knew" him. Getting interested in magic. Asking everyone a ton of questions. Maybe trying to get a "lab" set up. Save up enough story favors for an electron microscope so he can study monster DNA. Figure out how technology and magic interact. Maybe be followed around by a young pterax that may or may not have belonged to his predecessor. Y'know. The Usual.

I'm open for any and all CR with him. If he doesn't end up getting punched at some point it will be a miracle. He'll deserve it, too.

Tell us about yourself: Hello my player hearts! I'm Angel, and I make up one corner of your modalgamate. I'm in the EST timezone, which doesn't actually pin down my schedule, because I am also in the US Navy and end up working a lot of randomly rotated 12-hour watch shifts. I tend to have pretty long periods of lag between tagging windows because of that, but I'm always happy to backdate or backtag!

Aside from being one of your mods, I also play Frisk (Sol Raveh CRAU flavor) from Undertale and Ichimatsu from Osomatsu-san!

Tell us about them: Frisk is a perpetual 11-year old (or 12, or 13, it's kind of vague at this point) who once saved an entire race of monsters banished to the shadow realm, but also kind of killed them all first. It's okay they fixed it. Initially on arriving to LifeAftr, Frisk tried to mask their identity with the alias Kittu, but they've recently shed that idea and are now going by their name again. They're quiet, sweet, a dirty pun-lover, and pretty decent with a knife, though they much prefer to flirt their way out of situations.
Current plans: Frisk has recently revived after dying in last month's Umui event, so they're mostly getting back on their feet. They're holding up pretty decently despite everything, so while I don't have any plans in them for particular, they should be fairly flexible as far as this month goes!

Character: Ichimatsu ichininyaanshi

Tell us about them: Ichimatsu is about 10 years older than Frisk and like 30% as well adjusted. The fourth son among sextuplet siblings, Ichimatsu's life spent avoiding societal pressures has left him dour, cranky, and with deep-seated issues that even I'm not sure about because the canon never clarifies, but all in all, he's really just a poorly socialized and lonely guy who lashes out more than he means to. He's got a kind side to him, though, especially if you're a cat or a cat lover -- if you can get past how Extra he is with the edgy schtick.
Current plans: Ichimatsu also died last month and is handling it about as well as he can: poorly, but ultimately with a lot of dismissing it because the reality is that he's from a gag anime and this shit happens. I've also got no solid plans from him aside from following up with the Umui aftermath, but other than that, he's also quite flexible for this month!

Things are a little complicated because he just wants to be friends with and protect everyone. Certain people are against this idea.

More building and repairs! He's actually revamping the lighthouse on Enso (I3) into a workshop. Finishing out the roof there and then he'll be doing little projects around the temple between expeditions to look for a site for a bathhouse. He's part of the Storyteller defense squad and trying to cinvince people to make friends with them too.

Permissions: Here! This character's originating canon, and his background in particular, deals with some dark subjects, so you may want to check this out.

Tell us about them: Red vs. Blue is a comedy webseries that eventually reveals some heavy backstory details about the main characters and moves in a bit more of a serious direction. This character in particular is a bit of a walking spoiler, which is why I'm avoiding telling too much about him here, but the nature of RP is that people get spoiled for canons they're unfamiliar with. For this reason I won't be avoiding his name or background details in threads, unless you opt out at his permissions post.

What I will say about him is that this character is someone who can't let go of the past. He has a lot of things to atone for and make right to characters who were here before him, and I'd like to try to do a bit of a redemption arc with him.

Current plans: Right now I'm just looking to reveal his presence to people who might find it to be a bad thing and move on from there.

Character: Ginko (onegreeneye) and Erika Fisher (bitch4bitch)
Permissions: Ginko here! Ginko’s canon backstory deals with a lot of body horror and themes of mental illness/suicide/child abuse, and his past game has EVEN MORE body horror plus a lot of gore and cannibalism so uh… letting me know if you’d like to avoid any of that would be appreciated.

Erika here! The big thing with Erika is that she can be pretty abrasive and likes to solve problems with violence/threats thereof, so!! Just tell me if that’s an issue.

Tell us about them: Ginko is a very tired magic pest control guy from a really low-key horror anime, who then got deposited into a way less low-key horror game and is now a furry rock-covered monster. He used to have to eat people, but now he does not, and it’s great! He is still, however, very tired pretty much all the time. He’s been trying to help with first aid and the like whenever he can and also very gradually inserting himself into the business of everyone he meets, because what the fuck is minding your own business and leaving other people alone, he’s never heard of it.

Erika is an OC from the same urban fantasy story as Foster van Denend and Chip Abaroa; she’s a big gay werewolf who likes fashion and punches people for fun and profit! She refers to herself as Chip’s aunt because “first cousin once removed” takes too long, but the point is that their dad is her cousin, and she is extremely protective of them. She’s not exactly a responsible guardian figure, but she’s doing her best, arguably. Her main focus has been and still is looking after Chip, though she’s been branching out some to work on exploring and stuff more and meeting people. Most full moons she can be found tearing around Enso as a bear-sized hyena-wolf-beast.

Current plans: Positive CR is always appreciated, and he particularly has a soft spot for kids and teenagers. Negative CR is also very welcome, though somewhat harder to get; Ginko is often too forgiving for his own good (less so now than before Ryslig), so it’ll generally take either a string of Bad Experiences or one that just happens to hit his exact sore points pretty hard to get him to actually dislike someone. Other people disliking him, though, is perfectly welcome and honestly delightful. He’ll be continuing to look into medical stuff and otherwise get into people’s business.

Erika is SIGNIFICANTLY easier to gain negative CR with, partly because she doesn’t really know how to de-escalate and likes to Fite, so things can get aggressive fast with her. That said, though, she can be perfectly personable and friendly in conversations that don’t blow up, even if her sense of humor can still be kind of rude. She would love to have more people to talk fashion/makeup/etc with, and also to talk to more ladies because what can she say, women are Good.

Tell us about yourself: She/Her, Eastern Standard Tim, and a lover of all dank memes. You will know my canon preferences from my characters and from my plurks, as I often yodel about Pokemon, Okami, and more frequently now since I've started playing DND: Critical Role. I'm still only on season/campaign one, so please try to avoid spoilers for campaign 2!!

Character: Guzma here from the Pokemon Sun and Moon games, and Ammy (mamaterasu) from the game Okami.

Tell us about them:
Guzma is bug type pokemon trainer and also the former leader of Team Skull back in Alola - a group of misfit thugs that basically are more mischievous and obnoxious than downright dastardly. He's still a bad dude from time to time, but he's mellowed out a lot from both endgame and his time in game. JUst don't tick him off, Guzma has a temper like an active volcano, and because he has very violent anger issues, your character may get hurt.

Please also keep in mind. Guzma comes with some rather dark themes attached to him (yes, even from a pokemon game, surprise!!) so I will always tag my warnings. So all are aware, these may come up frequently if/when tagging with him: child abuse/neglect, physical violence, anger, light body horror, self harm/depreciation.

Ammy on the other hand is a goddess of the sun and also a super sweet, super friendly white wolf. She loves people and will probably come over immediately if you call her. She's extremely amiable and loves to play and LOVES to eat. She will literally eat nearly anything you put in front of her - this dog can put it away like fucking nothing. She can also drink any one of you suckers under the table.

She's also a lesbian and will 800% stare at your chest if you're a pretty woman. I don't make the rules.

Current plans:
Guzma needs help building additional space in his home for visitors to stay comfortably!! He has all the materials, he just needs more manpower, since the task would take him literal months by himself and he can't have a hole in his house be opened to the elements. Probably will post a network post for him tomorrow or later tonight for that in fact. uwu I also am up for literally anything. positive CR, negative CR, people willing to teach him to fight properly and/or use a gun to hunt...anything. COME AT ME SCRUBLORDS, I'M RIPPED.

Ammy mainly tends to her community garden at the monkey compound, and may begin expanding it at some point, or ask for a well in the center from the Storyteller at some point. Come pay her a visit, grab some food, and give her suggestions of what to grow for the next bunch. Her powers are limited, but she comes here daily to tend to the plants growing. Heck, if people also assisted her with that - especially water it - she'd be super pleased.

Tell us about yourself: My time zone is Canadia EST. I work as a school custodian so my hours for tagging may change here and there, but as the school period is about to begin again they should steady for the time being.

Character: Troupe Master Grimm / fireindreams
Permissions: Here. Please let me know if you would prefer to not be spoiled for Hollow Knight, the Grimm Troupe DLC or both.

Tell us about them: The theatrical Master of the Grimm Troupe and one of the more difficult boss battles of Hollow Knight. He has a flair for the dramatics and is the bug version of Dracula without being up to his eyeballs in Belmonts. He also happens to be Hallownest's God of Nightmares but personally finds that fact far less interesting.

Current plans: Grimm survived the antics on Umui due to speaking with his CR about some important things, although not all of his personal problems were touched upon. However he gained the Grimmchild charm from the Storyteller and now has his and the the Knight's cute child on Enso!

In addition some time this week or next I will be putting up a IC post asking for volunteers for a little show. After Umui's dangers, Grimm figures it is time for some rest and relaxation, and what could be more relaxing then demonstrating your skills and watching him and the Knight fighting against each other once again?

Regarding CR I am happy with whatever kind you wish to bring to the table, positive or negative. I am also looking to deepen Grimm's current CR so if there is something you'd like to do I'd be happy to thread something out.

Tell us about them:
Shiro is the previous black paladin and leader of Voltron, which is a position that he has since passed down to a worthy successor that he believes in unconditionally. He is a 26 year old man who has dedicated his entire life to piloting military space-craft, although some more mystical than others. He's a good, kind man who tries to do his best for the sake of others even if it means putting his life at risk.

As some of you guys know, Shiro was previously here in LifeAftr but unfortunately I crumbled underneath a hellish work schedule and died. During his original go, he was from the early seasons directly after the fight with Zarkon. Most notably, he had had a cute duo-coloured haircut and a fancy prosthetic arm. Now that he's returned, he's been updated to be a little closer to the current season and thus lost both of those things! His hair has gone entirely white and his arm has been destroyed (see gifs for comparison).

Current plans:
One of my main goals is to get Shiro a new arm some sort of way. You know, something nice and that isn't two sticks and a bit of tape. I promise I would never do anything so horrendous. I'm a nice person. In addition to that, I would really like to get some fresh CR! More adult friends is always a bonus, but so are people who will annoy the hell out of him because he's too composed a lot of the time.


Naturally, I would also love to expand on his current CR.

I suppose the last thing I can think to mention is that I'd love to get him involved with some community efforts, but I am still trying to figure out how I'd go about that.

Tell us about them: Keith: Those who knew him before will get the same old Keith they know but being updated to season 6 where he fully embraces being a leader has mellowed him out a bit.

He is a somewhat moody guy that does his best to guide others and protect them. He has a fiery temper but he tries to keep a hold of it. If things fall to chaos you can trust him to look for a solution. Or at least fight a way clear. He doesn't give up even in the bleakest of situations.

A skilled fighter with a quick mind, he's good in battle and out of it. He pushes forward but doesn't fixate like he did in the past. A lot of his old baggage has been put to rest butttt some of it is still there. He still handles fear pretty damn poorly.
Current plans:
Keith is recovering from the aftermath of friends dying and his own canon update. I'm looking to deepening current cr and expanding into new cr! He's going to see what he can do and try to make their community a little safer.

Anthy is fresh from the end of the Revolutionary Girl Utena anime's ending, just finding the strength and confidence to live her own life away from her brother's machinations. She's lived through implied centuries of abuse on all fronts, but can easily present herself as demure and nice, though she still carries with her bitterness towards humanity and a strong passive-aggressive streak. Still, she's learned a lot from the honest love of a friend, and will likely try to make friends in LifeAftr, though faster than she would prefer in order to survive. She can't die of exposure when she still has to find Utena, after all.

Current plans: Anthy is the kind of person who really needs positive CR in her life; currently, she really only has one personal example of people not being flawed and completely shortsighted in the universe, and since the end of her canon is a significant moment of breaking free of abuse, illusions, and hatred, people who are honest and kind would definitely help her learn how to better be her own person rather than just whatever someone else wants her to be. While she's definitely going to be initially defensive and wary, she'll still present as congenial and nice (perhaps a little creepily so). I'd also love some CR with fellow long-lived characters who can relate to watching humanity be dicks, especially to them. While she wouldn't be particularly helpful on an exploration, I'd like the idea of her working up towards joining one.

She's a trained medic/coroner and yakuza as well from her time in the mudergame she was in. She's got a space pigeon which lays eggs, can accelerate plant growth a limited amount of times a day, makes medical supplies with what she can get, and isn't afraid to speak her mind. She's here with her girlfriend Pyrrha.

Current plans: Any kind of CR is fine except romantic. She's wary about exploring, but will if she needs medical supplies or plants to make more medicines. She will refuse to go back to Umui no matter what. Thinking of bringing her husky from back home here to join the pigeon she has.
