OOC INTRO: DECEMBER

State of the Game
Welcome, newcomers, and hello again to the oldcomers! November saw a restoration of status quo, (relatively, in any case), and an introduction of the newest island to the archipelago, Maati. Aside from the tumultuous beginning, a holdover from the events of October, it has all in all been a rather peaceable month, right?

We've loved the feedback we've gotten about the game thus far, positive and negative, and encourage you to contact us whenever you feel it is necessary!

Our intro log will be going up on the comms on December 4th. Until then, a few quick points:

1. Nuidan. The island of Nuidan is still present in the archipelago. Characters, new and old, are welcome to sign up for tasks and rewards, as well as propose tasks and rewards of their own if it suits them.

2. Maati. The island of Maati arrived in the archipelago last month. As we mentioned earlier, the event scheduled for Maati has been pushed back to occur mid-December. Those new to the game still have until December 10th to sign up for this new event. Please note: as this event includes a chance of death, we will not be allocating anyone into the event unless they opt in. For those who have not opted in, no worries - we'll have something for you to do as well!

3. New Mod. Lastly and most importantly, we are very pleased to announce that we have a new addition to our mod team! As our workload has increased, we want to continue giving our lovely playerbase the time and focus that you all deserve. Thus, we would like you to extend a very warm welcome to Ruka (player of the Knight at lightlessfuture), who has agreed to join the LifeAftr mod team. You've already seen her chipping in here and there - she was the lovely contributor to the illustrations on the Search Requests page, as well as the sigils corresponding to Maati. She'll be helping us with metaplot and NPCs, as well as general maintenance!

In the meantime, feel free to use this post as an OOC intro and CR meme for the month of December - for new players to introduce themselves, for old players to meet and greet, and for general plotting to occur! If you want to chat or keep up with game updates, we also have both a plurk and a discord channel!

Tell us about them: Very Good Girl who deserved better, both from canon and in games. A veteran of towerofanimus. Has been in LifeAfter for... nearly a year now I think? Maybe actually a year, shit. Kind of at a weird point emotionally - not disliking where she is but wondering if she's ever going to get home or see the rest of her family again. It's complicated.
Current plans: I've been semi out of the loop with her here for a while (voice troubles, RL troubles, other game troubles, etc.) and am trying to get back into the swing of things. I'm definitely hoping to get her involved in the event this month. Besides that I'm very open, although she's probably going to be looking for something more solid for herself role/jobwise? Character: Troupe Master Grimm / fireindreams

Tell us about them: The theatrical Master of the Grimm Troupe and one of the more difficult boss battles of Hollow Knight, at least until Godmaster DLC was released. He has a flair for the dramatics and is the bug version of Dracula without being up to his eyeballs in Belmonts. He also happens to be Hallownest's God of Nightmares, which a few people met during the previous event. Grimm will not exactly be thrill to speak about what all of that was about, but will answer questions if pressed.

Tell us about them: Although not particularly talkative by nature, the Guardian is a kind soul handed a tragedy during their lifetime. Much like their fellow drifter already in LifeAftr, the Guardian suffers from the same sickness and also sought to end the plague of the Immortal Cell after their family's lives were claimed by it. Things unfortunately took a turn for the worse, but now there are here. The Guardian is signed up for the upcoming event and is on Team Purple.

Tell us about them: Noctis is a tired young man who feels a Lot of things and wants to help others. This gets him in way over his head. He's also a nerd; don't let the goth rock band look fool you. (spoilers: a lot of goths are nerds, le gasp.) He's also the last of his royal line, so... yay?
Allura is also the last of her royal line but has not wandered nearly as much as the other I'm bringing in. She loves to help others and will do whatever it takes to help those in need. I have a type and I realize this.
Current plans: Exploration and settling in until the event, mostly! For both of them. Also catching up with friends and family who are already here and have been for a while. (Joke's on you, Keith. She'll remember that conversation.)

Tell us about them:

TIM is a some dude from a web series called Marble Hornets (aka that one slender man webseries that Started It All) and a CRAU from sol_raveh. Depressed chain-smoker, kind of coming to terms with adopting a lot of stab-happy children, and chock-full of that good ol mental health Garbage so feel free to give me a poke if there's anything that gets a little too Real. In general he's just...very tired, very hard on himself, but he means well, usually. He's also taken to setting things on fire when he doesn't know how to deal with them, so that's good.

THE DRIFTER is from an indie game called Hyper Light Drifter because obscure canons are, apparently, My Business. Silent, blue-skinned wanderer who communicates via sign language and/or a little bobbing sprite thing that hovers by their shoulder and projects text. They will teach u sign language if u want. They're also suffering from an incurable terminal illness so don't be alarmed if they start horking up blood sometimes it's just a thing that happens on occasion.

AGENT WASHINGTON is from a web show called Red vs. Blue, which is a halo-based machinima about colorful space soldiers thats funny until it stops being funny and starts being really fucking sad. he's a space marine who just needs a fucking nap, honestly. in general, he's pretty dependable in a crisis, is a highly accomplished killer, and has a hell of a Traumatic Past and copes with it by being grumpy and acting like he's still a soldier, which he technically is.

Current plans:

TIM still runs Denny, which is LifeAftr's one and only restaurant. Let me know if you wanna work there! We can handwave if you want, or if you want some good establishing threads for nascent CR that definitely flies for me too. There are some carpentry tasks that he still wants to do, but we'll see how that goes once December's event starts happening. He is currently marked for the red group, so if you're red too you can come can idk commiserate about weird colors glowing on hands with him??

THE DRIFTER has been hypercompensating for the shit hell that was August and October by doing Nuidan tasks and exploration whenever they can, but aside from that, has been more or less grappling with the FEELINGS THAT THEY HAVE. they have feelings. they don't like these feelings :| they have been marked for cyan group.

WASH has mostly been coasting last month because november was a hell time, but he has been marked for yellow group for those who are interested in potential cr in that area!

MIRA is a girl in her super early twenties who comes from Washington state. She grew up in France, and later moved to the states. Her world is pretty damn shitty in that it sees people with abilities as a threat; therefore, it works to sort of "poison" people's minds, but only those without powers. In spite of all this, Mira reminds kind and caring, even if she has trust issues and refuses to talk about her problems. She's willing to take on others' burdens, though, and she internalizes. A lot. Ever since coming to LifeAftr, though, she's gotten more paranoid and is trying to teach herself to distance herself from people she cares about, just enough that she won't be devastated when they leave. It's not working, though. Whoops. She also has a corgi and a cat, so come play with them! For the event, she's got an orange mark.

SHIRO is pretty recently arrived. He's a soldier and has been through a ton of shit including: Being a gladiator! Being experimented on! Having his arm removed and replaced with an alien prosthetic! Nearly dying several times! Eating shit in each season opening! Needless to say, all of this has built up and he has a significant amount of trauma. But it's fine. Shiro is still compassionate and strives to make everyone around him feel comfortable. He's also a natural leader and values teamwork. In LifeAftr, he's had to deal with the apparition of his ex-boyfriend. He's also trying to keep his feelings for Keith on the down low, but that's. Not really working. Oops. For the event, Shiro has a purple mark.

Current plans: Let's do some search requests! Shiro is a lot more durable than Mira and can handle longer/more intense searches, but I'm more than willing to push Mira past her limits. Aside from that, I'm not really sure what I have planned. I'm just winging it, fam.

Tell us about them: Prompto has been in Lifeaftr since the beginning, and he currently wants to stay despite having a preference for modern life and technology. With the amount of time he's been on the islands, he's adjusted pretty well to the daily routines for survival, and lives in a fairly good setup with his two bros and his own nearly grown chocobo (plus the other animals they've gathered).
Prompto is an easygoing guy who might seem a lot more outgoing than he really is sometimes. He tries to be upbeat, is generally kind, and often does his best to try and help others. In reality, he can be pretty shy, especially around cute girls close to his age. He's slow to (real) anger and simple to get along with.

Current plans: I'm open. Currently, his friend Gladio is trying to set him up on dates. Boy is 21 and has only been kissed once by a drunk dude - also Gladio. As far as how receptive he would be, he'd be overenthusiastic, potentially to the point of being off-putting, towards girls and also probably nearly die whilst trying to talk to them, and very uncertain and confused about boys. Despite his small size and anxiety, he definitely considers himself a 'top' and would endlessly try to prove his manliness. No confidence issues here. None at all.
Other than that, he can always use more friends and go on more adventures. He would like to start generating electricity, which will require the steps of making wires and rubber and everything else needed to start tinkering.

Permissions: Here! There isn't anything super important you need to fill out or anything, but there is a slim chance that some of Yeager's threads may involve mentions of suicidal ideation/suicide. It's not super likely though, since he's an expert at ignoring his problems and never addressing them, so.
Tell us about them: Yeager is the leader of Leviathan's Claw, a guild that specializes in selling dangerous weapons and assassinations. It's rumored that he killed the previous boss to get the position, so he's definitely not a nice man. With that said, he doesn't act like you'd expect - he's flippant, annoying, and laid-back, never showing anything other than mild amusement. He doesn't seem to care about anything or anyone, and he just sort of does whatever the hell he wants at any given moment, and usually "what he wants" is definitely not going to be nice for anyone else. He can be relatively easy to get along with if you don't mind his awful sense of humor, but he's a pain in the ass. He also enjoys fighting and has an incredibly stupid weapon that's part giant scythe, giant rifle, sword, crossbow, and shield. It's dumb. On a slightly more positive note, he has two daughters! They're also his bodyguards because of course they are. But hey at least he isn't completely terrible, right??? He also has an incredibly thick German accent, so there's that too.
Current plans: Yeager's just arriving, so really anything goes! I've signed him up for the event as well! But really, I'm here for positive or negative CR of any sort, Yeager's going to be blatantly ignoring any problems he may or may not have about being here and... everything that happened recently back home tbh so he'll totally be here for getting to know people. He's very outgoing, so even if your character isn't the sort to approach strangers, we can definitely make something work!

Tell us about yourself: I'm in EST, but I'm up at weird/late hours usually, so I'm generally always around! I plurk a lot about RP and a lot about RL, sometimes about serious stuff, but it's always marked accordingly. I'm brand new to LifeAftr but have been roleplaying for a while; a bunch of people here know me from a bunch of short-term murdergames that I've modded before. I'm generally pretty shy in new games, but you guys are all really welcoming and that's great; as is evidenced by the length of this already, I tend to write a lot/am not known for being concise.

Character: Alexei Dinoia | Tales of Vesperia | ideismo
Permissions: Nothing too bad is likely to come up with him, honestly?
Tell us about them: Alexei just got here and honestly, this is vastly preferable to how things were going for him approximately twenty seconds before he arrived so he has reasonably little to complain about. He's the Commandant of the Imperial Knights and de facto leader of about half of his world's government; he loves the world he came from, he hates a lot of the problems it has, and generally speaking he's out to save the world, which is on track to end itself rather spectacularly if he doesn't. So, obviously, he's super-well adjusted. Generally speaking, though, he's pretty standoffish and formal, which is a polite way of saying that he knows how to do maybe two things total with his face, though he isn't unable to hold a conversation or anything; he's awkward, but he's generally a reasonable person - or, at least, he's more than capable of presenting that way to everyone, which is surely what matters. Given the way the Empire he serves tends to work, he's bound to be at least a little ruthless... He also tends to have some really, ah, "unorthodox" ideas regarding what saving the world actually entails, and he really, really doesn't handle loss well, to put it gently. But as a whole, Alexei does his best. His best is just not very good.
Current plans: I'm all right with just about any CR, positive or negative; anything goes with me, really, I'm easy, and anyone is more than welcome to hit me for things if you want to plot! I've signed him up for the event, but otherwise he's more or less just arriving and trying to get situated and...not...think too much about everything that just happened about twenty seconds ago as far as he's concerned because it wasn't going all that well.

Tell us about them: Keith is a somewhat moody guy that does his best to be a considerate and tactically sound leader. He's had to deal with a lot of struggling to find out who he is and where he belongs. While that struggle is over he still has issues and boy did Life aftr not help with that. All the same, he's ready and willing to help others out. It gives him purpose and he feels 'right' to do it. He's also very carefully trying to hide his feelings for Shiro. It's not working.
Current plans: Looking to do more search requests and build up his cr. I'm excited to see what the event will bring and what shenanigans people can get up during and before that. He's good to help with projects, get people established etc.

Laurent comes from Captive Prince, a medieval political intrigue series! Which is basically also a BL. I should probably have said that first, huh. He's affectionately referred to as a snake, thanks to his quirky personality traits of stabbing men in the first tagback (sorry Gladio) and general refusal to make friends. Laurent will absolutely sell you out for one corn chip even if he's done nothing of the sort yet. Currently comes with a big dog boyfriend fiance named Damen.

This version of Laurent is a CRAU from the Madoka-inspired game soulgemmed, and comes with magic (and uh. other Madoka-related complications.)

He also comes with a horse! EDIT: Multiple horses. He bought another horse.

Tell us about them: Lillie is a child from Pokemon Sun/Moon (the games in this case) who is just returning to LifeAftr following a month long absence. While the canon familiar may be used to a shy and reserved girl who is quiet and a bit of a doormat, her time in the game and with Guzma has hardened her up a bit and given her confidence in herself she never thought possible. She is in the process of untangling herself from the idea that her mother is a forgivable and good person at heart and coming into her own as a result. Check out her inventory post for an idea of the clothing changes she's made, a big step for her.
Current plans: Lillie is just coming back after disappearing for a little over a month! Her current priority is making sure Guzma is alright and stable, given the way he reacted to her absence. After that, it's a matter of her settling back in on Enso and continuing her growth as a character. CR is super welcome, and needed - she stays very close to Guzma and needs to start branching out a bit.

Tell us about them:

CHARA hails from a tiny, relatively inconsequential game by the name of Undertale; 11-13 going on 80, they're a tad jaded and bitter due to how things in their life have gone down. Sharp-tongued, paranoid, and constantly distrustful, they're pretty much what you'd expect a kid to be like a few years out of an eternal timeloop of kill or be killed. They're also a little murdery-- but they're getting better!

CR with them can be a little slow burn, but once they lose their sense of stranger danger, Chara's a witty little gremlin with a love of memes and pranks- and now they'll die for you.


BARRY BLUEJEANS comes from another super small fandom called The Adventure Zone. A scientist with a PDH in Fantasy Bullshit, Barold's also a self-turned lich and a tad forgetful "swordsman"- the forgetfulness is not really his fault, I swear. He's a little out of his element when it comes to socializing and making new friends, but his heart's in the right place.

Also ask him about his super hot elf girlfriend.

Permissions: Permissions post. Ray comes from a horror canon that deals with political violence and some other sensitive subjects.
Tell us about them: Ray's a schoolkid who in canon woke up to find herself in a school full of creepy ghosts--so LifeAftr doesn't seem all that bad to her. She's pretty adaptable and, coming from a repressive sociopolitical climate, has a great desire for freedom; while it's dangerous, the archipelago has some plusses for her there. She's not very used to wilderness survival, though, so she's experiencing something of a learning curve. She has a jealous streak deep down, but overall is pretty friendly and easy to get along with. She's really eager to help out and find a way to make this place "home."
Current plans: I don't have any firm plans beyond throwing her into the event when it rolls around (she's in the green group!). I'm always on the lookout for more CR and would love for her to make some more friends or meet some people who might challenge her to open up more about her life back home.

Tell us about them: Small clown with big horns, armed with more knives than ANYONE in the game. Karako is basically a rogue tween from the planet Alternia, meaning he's a murder-ready bug alien... except he's also a runt, so he also can't speak because his vocal cords aren't developed enough. Instead, he communicates exclusively in honks. He's somewhat impulsive and actually very friendly... just watch out for that Clown Rage.
Current plans: He's so new that he doesn't even know the term 'human' yet because all his TDM threads somehow missed that detail. Still debating whether I want to add him to the event? HM.

Tell us about them: Foster is a necromancer with psychosis, which is basically the worst combination for making friends. He thinks people being nice to him proves you're lying to him, and rarely misses an opportunity to tell you how wrong you are about everything. He also rarely misses an opportunity to tell everyone how wrong HE is about everything. It's hard to tell if he enjoys hating himself more or less than he enjoys you hating him, hopefully you like arguing.

He's also a nine-foot tall mushroom-covered bear-armed centaur, because CRAU is a riot.
Current plans: He's got a mysterious GREEN sigil and he can barely see it through his fur, ha. He's made plenty of enemies but no actual friends, and he's being extra obnoxious because he's falling into old bad habit? Ideally I'd like to start getting some more varied CR... positive CR would be really nice (so to speak?), or even negative CR that he can rely on. People are a lot less willing to be a jerk to him than he's comfortable with and it's freaking him the fuck out.
