OOC INTRO: AUGUST

State of the Game
Hello and welcome to our newest arrivals! And to those of you checking in on the state of things - welcome back! Last month, you all got the option to learn what it was like to be a merperson of sorts, and uncovered a sunken city with remnants of a long-lost people. Come August, the Jormun will be dispersing once more, but remember that they're always a shell-call away, if you ever feel like contacting them for any reason!

We've loved the feedback we've gotten about the game thus far, positive and negative, and encourage you to contact us whenever you feel it is necessary!

Our intro log will be going up on the comms on August 4th. Until then, a few quick points:

1. New Island. As we pushed back the emergence of the last island in this voting round, it will be coinciding with this month's intro log. New arrivals will be arriving on the new island, so be sure to read up on the island's OOC info post! It'll be relevant to the state of things when you show up, if you're new.

2. Network Functions. As of a generous donation from Kravitz (deathfindsaway) and Chara Dreemurr (achievementhunter), the LifeAftr network now has a notes function! This is a rather simple upgrade, and just means it's possible to create and store messages without having to immediately send them. But it might make it easier to draft things and send them as attachments! This information will be available on the FAQ as well.

In the meantime, feel free to use this post as an OOC intro and CR meme for the month of August - for new players to introduce themselves, for old players to meet and greet, and for general plotting to occur! If you want to chat or keep up with game updates, we also have both a plurk and a discord channel!

Tell us about them: crowley is hell's most approached demon, and that's about the nicest thing we can say about him.

more accurately, he's an infinitely old man-shaped (most of the time) being who really just wants to drive around in his car and drink wine and listen to music. despite being a demon, he's not particularly malicious or violent, but he's not really used to interacting with people outside of a professional capacity. he can be vaguely charming and a little bit cool if he really puts the effort in, the question is just whether he's going to make that effort.

on one hand he's gonna be fine with being away from earth, his stuff is there but like, so are a bunch of demons who want him dead. otoh the fact his magic doesn't work properly is going to be a constant source of annoyance. this is a person who hasn't bought an item of clothing for at least 2000 years. he probably hasn't had any water to drink in at least that long. he doesn't like eating. he's going to get sunburnt one day and he's going to hate it. please feel free to make fun of him about all of this.

at the start he'll probs be introducing himself as anthony bc that's his Human First Name but who knows how long that'll last before he gets bored and goes back to just crowley

Current plans: crowley's just going to be getting his bearings for the first lil while! dealing with the restrictions on his powers and trying not to throw a tantrum about the whole thing bc he's old enough that he shouldn't be having tantrums anymore.

that said he's probably going to be cranky about nastrandir, but curiosity might drive him to explore, maybe even push himself to take a flight up the mountains.

at least there are interesting plants. that's the only good thing so far.

He actually quite loves humans in general, and is probably going to be immediately defensive when he clocks another demon in the area, because he's accustomed to his kind being a bunch of dicks. If they can make peace and realize they're essentially on the same side, though, he super relates to the tedium of having to feed and water your body now.

Roman is a magical little dude who loves to show off and isn't a stranger to getting his furry ass kicked. Tell us about them: HMD post, IC contact, pointless inventory post. A Very Cheerful And Silly Skeleton who is absolutely miserable on the inside. His type of spirit is powered by memories, unfortunately the only people who remember him are a 99 year old woman with Alzheimer's and her great grandson, who's just now hearing a few stories. Has a serious brittle bone problem--he breaks easy.. Wears his usual ratty pants and this stupid shirt most of the time. It's a bit inkstained and getting worn out. Everyone can totally see his hipbones (THINK OF THE CHILDREN, BUDDY) aaand he has no shoes. Will talk your ear off about nothing and be as helpful as possible. Gets attached to people very very quickly, because one never knows when they might disappear. He doesn't really have a set schedule, mostly he just ambles around and does whatever seems best at the time. He can cook, though he can't eat the food he makes normally, and he does this often because it's fun. Also hangs around the library being vaguely useful sometimes.

Current plans: Honestly, not much. He'll probably go exploring some unless someone finally screams at him to staaaahp because he is weak and pathetic.

Tell us about them: Mikumo is the frontline singer of a group of space idols. They travel the galaxy singing to help people who get space rabies, and try to avoid being killed by some guys with weird hair attachments. Mikumo spends a lot of time alone, singing and snooping into things and she never answers questions when she can just tease you. Her number one priority is always singing.
Current plans: Mikumo is probably going to have a really hard time adjusting to the no-tech life. Her entire life is about tech, but so long as she can sing, she'll be okay. I want her to meet a lot of people and eventually to start to give concerts. She'll be the first idol on the islands or something. I'm okay with negative CR too, so if you want to be awful to her, let me know!

Tell us about yourself: She/her, I'm currently on CST! My plurk is mostly RP stuff and memes, sometimes mixed in with art and occasional RL talk.

Character: Erika Fisher bitch4bitch
Permissions: Here! Erika can be pretty abrasive and sometimes violent, so let me know if you’d rather avoid getting in fights with her or the like.

Tell us about them: Erika was, in her original modern fantasy world, a club bouncer and also occasional hired muscle/assassin. Don't worry about it. She has also been a werewolf for her whole life, and has come to actively lean into her world's broad perception of werewolves as boisterous and violent - which she's found she's pretty good at. In her opinion, being tall and buff and having fangs makes intimidation a pretty obvious form of problem-solving anyway.

As you can probably guess, Erika can be pretty flippant and abrasive. She doesn't usually approach interactions expecting a fight (unless it's with someone she already dislikes), but she's not prone to de-escalation if things start to move in a more confrontational direction. On the other hand, she can be very personable and friendly toward people who react well to her particular attitude and sense of humor.

Erika has gradually been settling into her position of responsibility over Chip, her cousin's kid who she's placed herself as the guardian of in their dad's absence. The fact that she's getting used to looking after them also means she can ease up a little on stressing over them, so she’s starting to spend a little more time hanging around the Denny and taking on projects and the like; she bought a sewing kit recently, so she might start doing more stuff with that!

Also every month she does spend a night running around Enso as a massive hyena-dog-thing, and might have been leaving gifts of fruit/pretty shells/prey (if the player is cool with that) on the doorsteps of people who she likes, and whose living spaces she knows the locations of. Helping!

Current plans: Erika is always up for making more friends, particularly those she can talk fashion and/or shit-talk people with. Potential sparring partners would be fantastic, too! Meanwhile, if anyone would like to get their character into a verbal or physical fight, Erika is very available for that. She doesn’t have much in the way of magic or superpowers to the degree some people might, but she does have enhanced strength, a knife, and brass knuckles, and is pretty confident in her ability to work with just those.

She will also likely be looking into exploring the mountainous area of the new island, and would welcome help with that!

Character: Ginko onegreeneye
Permissions: Here! Please note that Ginko’s canon involves body/eye horror, and a lot of themes relating to mental illness, child abuse, and suicide; additionally, the last game he was in involved MORE body horror, gore, and cannibalism. If you’d like to avoid any of those topics, please let me know on his permissions!

Tell us about them: Ginko originally came from a fairly low-key, naturalistic horror setting, where he used his expertise regarding the ethereal creatures populating his world to help those around him and make a living. Then he ended up in Ryslig, a much less low-key horror game that left him turned into a furry, crystal-studded monster with even more self-esteem problems than he already had.

Ginko can be kind of withdrawn and distant, and frequently rude (more by accident and lack of social competence than malice), but he'll fairly readily admit to and demonstrate his concern for others; though he's reluctant to open up about himself in any capacity, he can become attached to others (particularly children) very quickly, to the point of being kind of over-invested in others' safety. At the same time, he feels strongly about respecting and acknowledging nature for what it is, and there’s a risk of his enthusiasm for the topic turning to testiness if a conversation goes the wrong way.

Current plans: Currently, Ginko is helping with Faust’s clinic in between gathering supplies and working on the little garden he’s got going!

Additionally, if anyone has a child/teen that needs adopting, Ginko is one of the many dad options available (even if he won't admit that a Dad is what he is). That said, he could also benefit from more adult friends to hang out with, especially if he can talk nerd shit or science with them, maybe compare notes on the weirdass animals here.

I also absolutely welcome negative CR, though that's kind of hard mode; Ginko is often too forgiving for his own good, and if he does come to dislike someone he'll be inclined to just avoid them (partly to prevent his Monster Instincts from making things worse).

Tell us about yourself: I'm in the EST time zone and prefer she/her pronouns. I love writing and am currently working on a long-running RvB fic about the background on the Director. I have a fairly mundane existence otherwise as a wife and mom. I've also recently become employed for the first time in a decade, so that's something new! I'm also heading back to school on the 12th, so this may impact my tagging speed.
Character: Agent Texas from Red vs. Blue @ a_shadow
Permissions: You can find Tex's permissions post here. At Tex's pull point she was recovering from an injury and was just to the point where she was able to walk unaided, so she has a ways to go to get back to the level of fitness she would prefer. However, she's been in game for 4 months and has made it a habit to forage for fruit and other foodstuffs in that time, so she's in better shape now. Please note, she has invisibility on her armor and is likely to use it strategically if she needs to in order to win a fight.
Tell us about them: Tex is a combat AI who was placed in a human body in her previous game. ICly she struggles with the desire to use her robot instead—and unfortunately for her, she doesn't have access to it in LifeAftr. Therefore, she will go through some struggles with accepting her lot in not overworking or injuring her human body in her attempt to regain what she doesn't have here. Otherwise, Tex has a special connection to another AI who is in game, known simply as Church. I will likely be exploring her emotions in regard to him as well.
Current plans: So far I just want Tex to meet people, including potential enemies, friends, or ship partners!
Anything else: I played the Director in the game last year, a character who was Tex's creator, so if your character had CR with him and it comes up that could be interesting to explore! Otherwise I mainly want a heads-up if your character has reason to know who Tex is.

Tell us about them: is this where I can slap his overly-curated visuals? COOL HERE THEY ARE. Aziraphale is an angel. Aziraphale is a wildly conflicted creature. prior to his arrival here, literally like — hours prior, he was torn completely between his allegiance to Heaven and his duty to the planet he's rather unfortunately come to love so much (as well as his duty to his best friend, who just so happens to be a demon). but, Stuff Happened. he saw the proverbial light, or, rather, the darkness within that light. which is to say: Heaven sucks, actually.

he's not going to know what to make of this place. it's going to throw him and his powers completely off-balance, and it's likely that for the first little while his prevailing emotion will be worry. he can't be sure that this isn't some kind of strange punishment for his rebellion, that he hasn't been cast out from Heaven by God in a way that She thought might be fun and interesting.

but he'll find some relief in that as well, if only because this will feel to him like somewhere neither Heaven nor Hell can reach him. feel free to take a gander at his app for more info!

Current plans: literally brand new. he's going to show up drunk after successfully rebelling against Heaven and Hell and being useless in his role to stop Armageddon. this month's focus is on building CR!

Other fandoms are the Persona series, Tales Of series and the other Final Fantasy games. I like video games a lot, as might be obvious.

Tell us about them: Alisaie is a tiny ball of anger and spitfire. She's loyal to those who she befriends and gets pretty attached to them as she did not grow up with any friends. Other small notable things are that she's highly book smart (she went into Fantasy College at age 11) and has a twin brother.

Which is really just garbage collecting with her two cats.

Current plans: Ren is sorta lowkey reeling from the loss of some close cr, is kinda worried about the spicyteller and since she doesn't show Any Of That, she's just gonna be ambling around. Tell us about them:
Keith is a student fighter pilot turned the leader of a crew of mecha pilots (Long story). He's more at home in a fight than talking to people in social situations. He's loyal, dependable, but has a temper that flares up when he's frustrated or angry. He tends to struggle with finding his balance between what he wants to do and what should be done.

Lately that means balance between trying to keep people safe and being over protective. He's paraniod but, the islands gave him more than enough reasons to look for threats around every corner.

Current plans:

Keith is going to focus on exploring the new island. He'll poorly deal with his grief along the way by not dealing with it. Losing so many people he cares about sucks. Projects, fighting, whatever is needed? He can do that. It doesn't require his feelings.

I'm going to focus on exploring and building cr/spreading what Keith knows to other people. He's going to plan little improvements to living on the islands in his downtime. I'm interested in working with other people for projects and or spreading info further!

Tell us about them:

TIM has got troubled thoughts and the self-esteem to match. He's a depressed chainsmoker from a web series called Marble Hornets (aka that one slender man webseries that Started It All) and a CRAU from sol_raveh. He tries very hard and does generally mean well, but struggles a very lot with his own copious mental health issues. Has somehow progressed to being the rakish uncle of at least several children? Currently runs Denny, which is lifeaftr's sole eatery, and a carpentry place.

THE DRIFTER is from an indie game called Hyper Light Drifter. Silent, blue-skinned wanderer who communicates via sign language and/or a little bobbing sprite thing that hovers by their shoulder and projects text. They're suffering from an incurable terminal illness and are technically just dying in slow motion, but in general they're here to help!! They will happily teach sign language to anyone who asks.

AGENT WASHINGTON is from a web show called Red vs. Blue, which is a halo-based machinima about colorful space marines thats funny until it stops being funny and starts being really fucking sad. in general, he's pretty dependable in a crisis, is a highly accomplished killer, and has a hell of a Traumatic Past. but he's getting better, kinda. he has a tigerlily that wasn't supposed to be his, and actually has it a lot less together than he seems because people from home are a BIG CONCERN

Current plans:

TIMis going to be having a rough time this month since his kids are leaving and he hasn't realized just...how much of himself has been wrapped up in them. And he's going to be very fucking sad about it. He'll probably cry, because that's what he does. BUT he still runs Denny, which is LifeAftr's one and only restaurant and you can still let me know if you wanna work there. We can handwave if you want, or if you want some good establishing threads for laying CR groundwork, we can do that too. If you need any carpentry or construction done, Tim doesn't mind helping u out with that whenever necessary. Not sure how useful he's going to be with exploring, but we'll uh, we'll see.

THE DRIFTER has finally. finally settled in a house because the Knight is gone now and they were super important and now the Drifter doesn't know what to do. so they'll probably do some BIG EXPLORING since that's easier than handling loss and grief and shit. hate that shit!! already did it a few times before, didn't care for it.

WASH will probably be doing some exploring too! Someone has to keep an eye on Church so he doesn't do something stupid right. He's still in a weeeeeird place from the previous few months and handling emotions is awkward business so let's just fuckign. explore shit instead. that's fine.

Tell us about them: Edward is a smart-ass young man that got duped into working for the military because of some dumb shit like 'accidentally made an abomination against nature and got his little brother stuck as a soul in a suit of armor'. It's kind of a long story, and he doesn't wanna talk about it--especially when there's the fun trauma of having been shoved through the horror-game wringer and come out the other side as a fuzzy winged goat man with a whole lot of self-identity issues! He's rude, blunt, impatient, but still good-natured at heart and willing to put himself on the line for people he barely knows.

Ed is in the process of shoving himself back out into the ordeal of 'being social' again, which mostly entails getting out and about, helping out at the Denny more often, and puzzling over some of the plot hints that have cropped up recently. He's also been quietly dying inside about not being able to just shove the other two resident Rysligs in a closet to JUST KISS ALREADY, but that's another matter.
Current plans: Mostly looking to kick up some new CR and reconnect with older friends! If anyone needs a blunt asshole that's too clever for his own good and Punch Good, Ed's ya guy!

Tell us about them: Chip is a silly little kid from a modern fantasy world (same one as Erika! They're family) that has demonic ancestry and more than a few issues because of it. They're generally curious and cautiously friendly, though it doesn't take much for them to get defensive or suspicious. Chip also has an unfortunate tendency to charge straight into trouble that might cross their path and double down on Very Bad Decisions, though they do at least admit to when they've done a bad. Or even admit it when they haven't actually screwed up! It's kind of a problem.

Chip has been gaining confidence during their stay here, but with some of their CR having left the island they're kind of on wobbly ground. They hang around the Denny a lot and explore the beaches plenty, but there's only so much a kid can do to distract themself.
Current plans: Do you want a friend? Of course you do! Grudge matches are also more than welcome, you gotta have someone you can get into an embarrassing baby-fight with.

Tell us about them: Destined killer who was created to annihilate life on the planet of Gaia but turned out to be an optimistic and playful teenage thief thanks to sibling jealousy. Zidane likes pretty women, is pretty carefree and often looks out for and risks his life to protect his friends.

Loyal friend and good listener although he can troll you a bit. But if you've got a shy or antisocial character who NEEDS FRIENDS, Zidane's a pretty good candidate. He's not always polite but he usually lets insults directed at him roll off his back and is pretty good at not bearing a grudge and he'll help you out if he sees good in you.


Current plans: Zidane is definitely going to explore the new island so I'd like people to do that with him. Also, closer CR and closer friends to help him survive on the island. AND when I get down to it, I'll finally do the setting up a theatre but life keeps getting in the way. ONE DAY I WILL DO IT. Also, more people he can troll and vice versa would be good. Current plans: With Frisk and Chara leaving, Asgore's going to be in a continued weird place. He probably desperately needs emotional support of some kind, but hell if he's going to try to reach out for that. He may just go die in the swamps.

Tell us about them: Michael is a demon from Hell, who recently defected for the sake of his new human friends, ran away to Earth, and then came back to try and reform the afterlife system after realizing exactly how shitty it is, so that's about where he's at! He's mildly annoyed at being stuck here right now, but given that they'll be going back to the same point in the timeline, he doesn't mind. He's a billion years old, this is nothing.

Current plans: 2B here is new and going to be dealing with a few uh, things. Having died, humans being about, other creatures existing outside of humans- you name it. Current plans: jester is really easy to throw into anything, since she just kind of follows her whims and also likes to be helpful in general. if you need someone to help explore or set something up, she's your girl! otherwise, she's just as liable to approach literally anyone for any reason.

she's also slipped a few pamphlets between the books at the library that anyone's free to notice. I deffo need to make up for my own slack and get her leaving graffiti and other nonsense elsewhere, too.

Current plans: I've been struggling a bit keeping him active here, but I've decided rather than just bowing out I'd like to try to give him a li'l second wind of attempting to get him like, around. he's definitely not the type to get involved, which is the main issue, but he's also pretty easy to throw at people at random since he's a needy idiot. currently he's sort of avoiding his brother Ben, because he thinks he's managed to hide the fact that he's fallen off the wagon from him (lbr, probably not).

Tell us about them: Faust is the isles' resident Phantom of the Operating Theatre! Highly qualified and experienced as both a physician and surgeon, he has put his skills to good use by commandeering The Ensō Clinic & Infirmary! Don't let his jester's guise and cryptid-like form fool you, though; behind all the absurdity and unsettling behaviour, he has decades worth of sage advice from his life as a wandering back-alley doctor - and he takes his job completely seriously. He cannot guarantee your continued safety if you threaten the lives and wellbeing of his patients.
Current plans: I will always be open for new CR - positive or negative - and any of the subsequent shenanigans that come with them! For now though, I will be on a hiatus from the 10th of August to the 17th - subsequently, Faust will be put on autopilot, and I won't be accepting any new tags until I get back.

Tell us about them: Commander Shepard is a space marine who has saved the world about... three times now? And then she died. Now she's here! She's been here for over two years! Wow! Time flies when you're depressed and trapped on an island! At this point in time she's well acquainted with Enso and the other islands' mischief and honestly she'd defend the Storyteller with her life. Don't tell the mods that though, shhhh. Anyway she's very invested in finding out the truth of this place to try and get everyone home but unfortunately she has been lost in the sauce and by sauce I mean her previous trauma. But she's trying to come back out into the wild society as we know it now.
Current plans: I just want CR at this point. If you're willing, I am willing! Here's a toast to me being more present this month, hopefully.
