CALL FOR LIBRARY HELP

HEY ALL so a little while ago the drifter was part of the nuidan group that placed a library on ensō, and only recently did they manage to get some supplies to actually...make it more of a library and not just a Building With Shelves In It. this now has a LOG and everything, so it's all Official!

the problem is mainly that the drifter is ass at actually maintaining a library, and as i already have tim running the denny and carpentry, i don't think i could feasibly run those in addition to the library - and i'd rather not monopolize the player projects we have going on here. that's no fun for anybody!

so that's where you guys come in. does anyone here want to oocly (or icly) run the library? that would probably mean just like...setting up an info post, updating any changes in the supplies or staff, and so on. it would be your playground to do with as you see fit - to stock however you want, burn down if you want, supply how you want, set up mingles if you want, whatever the heck you want! i'd be giving this completely over to you to do as you will with it!

if that sounds like something you'd be willing to do, please do let me know! i'd be more than happy to set you up a post like this one, where you can list staff and rules and such.

Want Sum Blue?

Hewwo, my darlings! Recently I posted a lifenet post about Chara's intentions to try and identify as many of the flowers on currently discovered squares as possible! And since this is a huge undertaking, I'm thinking that I'll pop in a search req spanning from July 31st to August 3rd, with an open mingle log to go with it!

Whilst Chara will absolutely be camping out through the duration of this, other characters are more than free to come and go, just helping where and when they want to! So in addition to discovering some flowers, there's also going to be:

Sum camping

Poking at defunct robots

smartass quips

probably ending the search with burning down a building or five- exact building yet to be decided.

hi welcome to chilis

Tim's been spending the past several months renovating the ruined mess hall found on Ensō H5, and as of recently, he's finished it and made it into a usable space for people to...frequent, at their leisure! By June 21st, there will be a mana pool outside it for easy access.

Welcome to Denny, an all-purpose restaurant and bar and space for people to socialize whenever they feel like it. No, not Denny's. Yes, just Denny.

I've compiled information about it here, from stock to staff to general appearance. Let me know if your character is interested in contributing in some capacity. We can thread it out or handwave it, whichever!

Network Update: Stones of Far Speech

Phone Network Kickstarter

As Lup will explain ICly, we have a shot at a magical phone network if we pool enough favors. Stones of Farspeech, for those not familiar with The Adventure Zone, are literally small magical stones that work more like walkie talkies than like phones, as in the person who is called has to respond immediately or there can't be a conversation. There's no inboxes on these things, also no texting or caller ID. Also mind the sad lack of Fantasy Snapchat so far. The original restriction on Lup's test Stones was as follows:

As long as some contact with skin is maintained, paired with firm, directed thoughts toward the individual in possession of another stone, mental communication can be achieved over great distance.

- At present, the stones can function only on a one on one basis; threeway or fourway conversations cannot be had between stone-holders. If more than one person tries to use a Stone at the same time, the result will be a muddled buzz of sound at whoever might be listening on the other hand, otherwise indistinct.

- The Stones will function only in the physical realm; should one or more of those bearing them be in Mu or in some other indistinct, metaphysical realm, communication will not be possible.

Mute characters can use the Stones, in their case their thoughts will be broadcast instead of their voice.

As you can imagine, this is gonna be expensive as hell and kind of an ongoing project. The Storyteller will need 30 offerings to provide our roughly 80 characters with Stones, and then a monthly supply of around 5 favors to give new arrivals Stones as well. This may vary if enough dropped characters leave behind Stones to redistribute, Bird will keep track of that for us. But this is a good starting point for a more direct network than the Rock, and we can probably add to its functions in the future!

Med supplies and Lights for the Dark times

So, it's a little late, but I figured this was better as an ooc post with handwaved in-game interaction anyway. So Keith asked for people to pool favors for medical supplies and lights.

He got the following.

- 40 first aid kits containing the following.
- 15 lanterns filled with a mysterious glowing liquid; much like the necklaces gifted to survivors in December, only far more powerful. A faint outline of a floating sigil can be seen within. A rather rudimentary visual instruction has been inscribed on the top of the cork for activating and deactivating the lantern's glow.
- 5 wicker baskets filled with fresh Turney and Cubsbane. For

darkova's potions.

He'd have made a note on the rock to come grab them at the temple. This would have happened the day before it all went to hell with the event. His one remark would have been preferring lanterns going to groups of people and or people going outside. But he won't police it. It's all about trust here.

But leaving a lantern in the temple for people needing to come and go would have been fine as well. So anyway, this is the goodies, come nab them!

Sign Language sign ups and IC Info Sharing!

Henlo friembs I have a few things to enquire with you today!

IC Info Sharing
Chara has recently acquired a handy dandy notebook! With this tool in their arsenal, they intend to do what they do best- be completely invasive of other's privacy and stubbornly attempt to strong arm them into sharing all of their secrets.

Essentially, they'd like to catalog the abilities and skills people on the island have, with the intent of having this be public knowledge. With this, characters will be capable of locating others who may have the skills they need to get a job done, flesh out a party of adventurers, or beg for certain resources...such as clothes.

Rather than take up everyone's time with sixty plus threads of Chara getting this info, I have a handy dandy little textarea to fill out with what your character would be willing to divulge. Note that Chara will make it clear that this info will be public knowledge, and that when a network goes up, they have full intentions of putting it up there.

Sign Language sign ups!

It's been mentioned a couple of times that people would be interested in their characters learning or teaching sign language! So another handy little textarea below has some initial info to collect about that, after which I'll pop up a new thread for people to elect who they want to learn from/who they're already teaching!

As Laura has pointed out, this is also a cool opportunity for the variety of languages known to adopt a island specific pidgin- mingling together a bunch of knowledge to create something entirely new. All of this stuff has the opportunity to be handwaved or threaded out, so it's a nice opportunity for new or continuing CR!

Farming, plant relocation, and plotting.

Hey! A lot of us have floated around ideas for starting a farm or relocating the growing plants that have already been discovered, and it's more than time to get that idea off the ground!

A few locations have been suggested in the past (the old farming plots near the temple and on the islets themselves), and some characters might have already started some small personal farms. This is a plotting and information gathering post to find out what characters are doing, where they think farms should be started, and what they have or want to contribute. Keep in mind what areas took hits during the flooding.

I don't know all the available plants, but I'll look around and try to gather what I find in a shareable doc. Would it beneficial to everyone if I also made a tab for farms and for what people want to do?

For any livestock farms, here's a link to the available beasts to help you brainstorm. The map for handy reference of locations!

Let's Build a Bulletin Board: Take 2

HOT DIGGITY SHIT we're due for a network

Sorry to yank this out from under Zero lmao, but with the "Give Us an iPhone" option ruled out, I'm gonna fall back on Sev's original idea to build a community bulletin board next to Islet 1's mana pool.

This is just one board, mind; there's still plenty of room for other boards at other mana pools or an actual network with people all carrying linked devices or whatever else people might want to propose! I just wanted to put this forward as a way for people to not have to rely on OOC handwaving and off-game inboxes and the like to communicate or organize.

Severs' current plan is for a chalkboard of sorts: a smooth, flat rock that people can write on with chalk. This has the perks of being reusable and relatively typhoon/rain-resistant (though the chalk messages will likely wash off), but it will require a few things:

Necessary supplies:

A big rock (slate ideal - but anything smooth, flat, and dark will do)

A stand (wood, clay, or stone - something to keep it in place)

A roof/shelter (wood, nails/rope, woodworking knowledge - to keep the rain from washing it blank)

Chalk for writing (She might just make a supply of this her first Storyteller request, if anyone wants to chip in there)

Bucket for chalk, bucket of water + rag for erasing

It'll need a bit of elbow grease and gathering to get it all set up nicely, and she's just one homeless bum, so this is where all y'all come in!

Any characters out there willing to pitch in supplies and/or labour? It won't need much monthly maintenance or parts once it's built, aside from the chalk replenishing, but the initial setup could make for a nice mingling log if people want to fit one ray of sunshine in before or after the Hell Event coming up!

Ape Compoud/Big Door search party

Hey friendos! So there happens to be a door in this compound that's warded shut from the Storyteller, and Newt (as well as several others) would like to investigate said compound and esp. that door.

So!!! As such, I thought I'd submit a search request and then throw up a log based on the search results. With that in mind, I wanted to know who might want to be a part of this search/investigation?

Beyond the jungle!

Hey all! Mercy and Roy are spearheading a group to adventure through the jungle to the outskirts of the known territory. They will need bodies and supplies, and that's where you come in!

I have a post going where you can thread out your character joining up, asking questions, contributing supplies, etc. but if you'd rather handwave it to "yeah they're coming", that's completely understandable. So this post is a place to collect those handwaves and record who responds to the request IC.

Once we have a group, we can search one of four tiles I picked out as easiest to reach: D7, E8, F8, G7.

EDIT: I think we have a good group, so I'm going to submit the search request because I want to get it in ASAP. We can always backdate it if the mods need time to work stuff out ^.^

Character: Your character's name, of course.
Supplies: Any supplies they're bringing - food, water, etc. A link to your inventory will also suffice if you're packing heavy.

Ruin Exploration Group(s)

Heyyyyyy Nikki here, so it occurred to me while at work today that it would be easier to organize and handwave some group-making stuff than try and thread every single thing because lol time. So I'm going to make a list of everyone that's signed up for Ruin Exploration so far and keep an ongoing list here, aaaaaand sometime on Wednesday, probably in the morning-ish for people in PST (aka whenever Nikki gets off of work over here in CET) if there's enough people I'll RNG some groups depending on the size or just stick everyone together in one group if it's smaller, idk.

So if you definitely want your character involved but would rather handwave, just drop me a line here. Also, if your character(s) want to be with certain other character(s), I'm totally down for that, just add that in.

Also, once groups go up, you can use this post to plot whatever sorts of things ur group did and either play it out in the ruin log or another log or handwave or WHATEVER U WANNA DO, U CRAZY KIDS.

~~Finally, Mods have said since the ruins are quite small, just one search request would suit, so once we've got a final list, I'll put in that search request o/~~
