OOC INTRO: OCTOBER

State of the Game
Welcome, newcomers, and hello again to the oldcomers! September brought with it a new island, and along with it the promise of plenty. You've all been working awfully hard to renovate Ensō - but as much as you've done, there's still lots more to do!

We've loved the feedback we've gotten about the game thus far, positive and negative, and encourage you to contact us whenever you feel it is necessary!

Our intro log will be going up on the comms on October 4th. Until then, a few quick points:

1. Umui. The island of Umui is still present in the archipelago...though we can't say how much longer it will last. ARUM-25 has started to remember something, and once the Storyteller returns...well, who knows what will happen!

2. Nuidan. The island of Nuidan is still present in the archipelago as well! Characters, new and old, are welcome to sign up for tasks and rewards, as well as propose tasks and rewards of their own if it suits them.

3. Storyteller's Absence. As of October 4th, the same day as this month's intro log, the Storyteller will be departing to seek out new islands for your exploration. The consequences of this absence are yet to be seen...but bear in mind, that from October 4th onward, IC contact threads with the Storyteller and Item Requests will be temporarily unavailable. We will let you know as to the date of their return. However, if you need some vital backdated, just let us know!

In the meantime, feel free to use this post as an OOC intro and CR meme for the month of October - for new players to introduce themselves, for old players to meet and greet, and for general plotting to occur! If you want to chat or keep up with game updates, we also have both a plurk and a discord channel!

Character: The Director determinist
Permissions: Here! This character's originating canon, and his background in particular, deals with some dark subjects, so you may want to check this out.

Tell us about them: Red vs. Blue is a comedy webseries that eventually reveals some heavy backstory details about the main characters and moves in a bit more of a serious direction. This character in particular is a bit of a walking spoiler, which is why I'm avoiding telling too much about him here, but the nature of RP is that people get spoiled for canons they're unfamiliar with. For this reason I won't be avoiding his name or background details in threads, unless you opt out at his permissions post.

What I will say about him is that this character is someone who can't let go of the past. He has a lot of things to atone for and make right to characters who were here before him, and I'd like to try to do a bit of a redemption arc with him.

Current plans: Right now I'm working on him getting used to realizing he's still alive and still in a depression. Circumstances will hopefully lead to him pulling out of it a bit, especially if other characters reach out to him.

Tell us about yourself: My time zone is Canadia EST. I work as a school custodian so my hours for tagging may change here and there.

Character: Troupe Master Grimm / fireindreams
Permissions: Here. Please let me know if you do not wish for spoilers for Hollow Knight, the Grimm Troupe DLC or both!

Tell us about them: The theatrical Master of the Grimm Troupe and one of the more difficult boss battles of Hollow Knight, at least until Godmaster DLC was released. He has a flair for the dramatics and is the bug version of Dracula without being up to his eyeballs in Belmonts. He also happens to be Hallownest's God of Nightmares but personally finds that fact far less interesting.

Current plans: Sadly I did not do much this month due to a few scheduling issues for work, but I plan on getting back into the swing of things for October. I do not have any solid plans so I welcome anything you wish to bring, be it positive or negative CR.


Character: The Guardian / smallkindness

Tell us about them: Although not particularly talkative by nature, the Guardian is a kind soul handed a tragedy during their lifetime. Much like their fellow drifter already in LifeAftr, the Guardian suffers from the same sickness and also sought to end the plague of the Immortal Cell after their family's lives were claimed by it. Things unfortunately took a turn for the worse, but now there are here.

Current plans: The Guardian is new and thus is open to any kind of CR you would like.

Tell us about them:

TIM is a some dude from a web series called Marble Hornets (aka that one slender man webseries that Started It All) and a CRAU from sol_raveh. Depressed chain-smoker with arsonist tendencies that have now become less "tendencies" and more "default survival mechanisms." Has somehow become the island's Birthday Distributor if you happen to not know what your birthday is, and has kind of come to adopt a great deal of stab-happy children. He's chock-full of mental health shit so feel free to give me a poke if there's anything that gets a little too Real. In general he's just...very tired, very hard on himself, but he means well, usually. He's also taken to setting things on fire when he doesn't know how to deal with them, so that's good.

THE DRIFTER is from an indie game called Hyper Light Drifter because obscure canons are, apparently, My Business. Silent, blue-skinned wanderer who communicates via sign language and/or a little bobbing sprite thing that hovers by their shoulder and projects text. They're suffering from an incurable terminal illness and starting to understand that they're getting attached to people here, big time. Oh Shit.

AGENT WASHINGTON is from a web show called Red vs. Blue, which is a halo-based machinima about colorful space soldiers thats funny until it stops being funny and starts being really fucking sad. he's a space marine who just needs a fucking nap, honestly. in general, he's pretty dependable in a crisis, is a highly accomplished killer, and has a hell of a Traumatic Past. but he's getting better, kinda. he's not happy that he's not with his team anymore, but he also has faith in them to make it just fine without his interference at this point. ain't that a bitch?

Current plans:

TIM still runs Denny, which is LifeAftr's one and only restaurant. Let me know if you wanna work there! We can handwave if you want, or if you want some good establishing threads for nascent CR that definitely flies for me too. I'm going to try and get a Denny mingle up once a month if possible, unless extenuating circumstances make that unlikely or unnecessary! He's gonna be working on trying to get a carpentry going on Nuidan, so lmk if you wanna join that group!

THE DRIFTER has been forced to take massive strides in regards to their character development in order to not die from hanahaki honesty curse and has come away realizing that they do in fact Give Many Shits about a lot of people around them!! it's confusing and theyre not sure how to handle it. theyre having a small crisis? theyre coping by doing Nuidan tasks, including wanting to make a library happen because hISTORY IS COOL. last i checked their group for actually Doing The Task was legion, connor, héctor, and the knight, BUT they need people to help them search the area for papyrus plants first, so let me know if you wanna join them for that bit of the adventure!!

WASH is dealing with HIS OLD BOSS. WHO IS HERE. OH BOY. he has been getting one castmate per month at unprecedented "lets fuck wash THE FUCK UP" rates so to keep with that tradition hes getting someone from his future who he has never met OH BOY. hes kind of trying to take care of himself, ish, mostly for the sake of his teammates and the cr hes made thus far, but you can probably catch him like patrolling semi regularly because you can take the man out of the space military but you can’t take the space military out of the insomniac disaster, as it were

Tell us about them: The Knight is a very tired protagonist bug child who likes making new friends and exploring with very little fear whatsoever. They're starting to get slightly less...intense...about everything and are starting to unpack their issues but they've still got a long way to go.

Current plans: If you want to explore and need a tiny, stabby child for accompaniment, the Knight is totally down for it. Otherwise they wander all over the island on a daily basis so they're likely to stop and stare if you're doing anything new and weird. They're easy to meet and fairly friendly, though if you attack them or something they'll probably stab you in the ankles.

Their big sibling is arriving this month so they're going to be amazingly protective of this six foot bug, so I guess look out for that.

Tell us about them: Keith is a somewhat moody guy that's calm and resolute in the face of danger. He's a man of few words when he doesn't need to say anything. He'll stand by you when you need help and has a bit of a lone wolf feel to him.

This hides his somewhat dry sense of humor and love of the sky and piloting. So in short, it takes time for him to open up but he'll protect and help others with very little need to convince him.
Current plans: Plans at present are working his butt off, make connections, and try not to think about how many of his team are gone. He can't find them and it's driving him nuts. He's going to check on present cr and touch base with new people and or help anyone that needs some help. I'm good for all types of cr as this Black Paladin does what he does best. Current plans: So Lillie has been sticking pretty close to Guzma, which makes sense seeing as she's a kid with no real direction out here and her best friend recently disappeared into the ether. But I want her to get out more and start talking to more people. I'm going to see about organizing an island-wide clam bake as an IC reward for all the hard work everyone's been doing on Nuidan and as a way to get a mingle thread up and going. He has an Open Inventory where people can take, leave, store, and otherwise manipulate the contents of the backpack strapped to his back seeing as he sure as hell can't make use of it.

He's starting off the month a bit more bummed than usual, because his goofy skelefriend seems to have vanished. (But he's used to friends disappearing forever, ha ha...) Tell us about them: Molly is a loud, ostentatious and obnoxious demon-looking asshole who will either endear people with his flashy personality or drive them crazy. He's a good guy inside, though - even if most of what he says are lies for the lulz. Molly's pretty hyped for this new experience (he loves new experiences) but is also kind of thinking it's the weirdest afterlife. He just died, please cut him some slack in case of that trauma catching up with him.
Current plans: I'm dying for any kind of CR! People liking him, people hating him, people thinking he's there to steal their souls, I'm up for anything! He might be attacked by his own crew first, they either missed him or are really mad at him for dying (hi Beau). Nothing like getting to know new people, though!

Tell us about them: Foster is a necromancer with psychosis, which is basically the worst combination for making friends. He thinks people being nice to him proves you're lying to him.

He's also a nine-foot tall mushroom-covered bear-armed centaur, because CRAU is a riot.
Current plans: He'll be getting in trouble with the Storyteller later this month because he animated Lance McVoltron's corpse that was left lying around after an event. Ideally I'd like to start getting some more varied CR... positive CR would be really nice (so to speak?), or even negative CR that he can rely on. People are a lot less willing to be a jerk to him than he's comfortable with and it's freaking him the fuck out.

Tell us about them: Pidge is a literal gremlin the smallest (and youngest) of the group, though that doesn't mean she wants needs any special treatment because of that. In fact, she'd prefer if people would not On the other hand, she knows what she looks like and tends to let people form their own opinions of her (because it's usually hilarious). She also had a fun first month in that she contracted the flower plague and died (and as a result was unable to lie for a bit.) She's also been scavenging random clothes, because why not.
Current plans: Pidge is going to throw herself into whatever projects she can to distract herself from the fact that Hunk and Lance are both gone. If you want her somewhere, let me know. This may or may not include a ridiculous tigerlily kitten. She'll be sticking close to Keith (and low key worrying about him disappearing too), so that's a thing. Also, I plan on canon updating her as soon as the time limit's up~

Tell us about them: Commander Shepard is a space marine from another galaxy who has been here over a year now, wow. She's become a bit reclusive and even more so since finding out that the one friend she has from home not only is dead as well, but comes from a timeline where her actions led to their death. She's having a little bit of an existential crisis, no biggie. Regardless, she's fallen into a general rhythm around the island and continues to endeavor to get everyone home.

Current plans: Kaworu has lost a LOT of his CR recently to drops and an ongoing IRL health thing, so I am hoping to spend this month catching up! Bring me your young, your old, your fellow nonhumans! Rei is here in game too, so if you need a Kaworu-to-reasonable-person translator, she can do that... sometimes.

Tell us about them: Lucas is a nerdy scientist with shaky morals who once tried to resurrect his mom and put her soul in a robot body, as you do, and almost ended the world! Healthy coping mechanisms right here. He specializes in inventing stuff and mixing magic with technology, and hasn't been having a great time in Lifeaftr because he went from having an entire laboratory at his disposal to having a couple of rocks and pointy sticks for tools. He's kind of a weaselly little shit, but mostly he's just Very Tired, and would like to either have a nap or figure out a way to go home, please.
Current plans: September was A Month, and I kind of fell flat on my face for most of it. Lucas needs more stuff to do, and more people to do stuff with! He's trying to figure out how to 'Do Good' without any of his technology, and also trying to avoid getting punched in the face or stabbed with a scythe, because after Flowergeddon he drunk-dialed Kravitz and unwisely started trashtalking him.

Tell us about yourself: EDT (or CDT when I’m on break from school), she/her; I’m an art student, which sometimes affects my schedule, but I try to keep up with plurk and discord at the very least!

Character: Ginko (onegreeneye) and Erika Fisher (bitch4bitch)

Permissions: Ginko here! Ginko’s canon backstory deals with a lot of body horror and themes of mental illness/suicide/child abuse, and his past game has EVEN MORE body horror plus a lot of gore and cannibalism so uh… letting me know if you’d like to avoid any of that would be appreciated.

Erika here! The big thing with Erika is that she can be pretty abrasive and likes to solve problems with violence/threats thereof, so!! Just tell me if that’s an issue.

Tell us about them: Ginko is a very tired magic pest control guy from a really low-key horror anime, who then got deposited into a way less low-key horror game and is now a furry rock-covered monster. He used to have to eat people, but now he does not, and it’s great! He is still, however, very tired pretty much all the time. He’s been trying to help with first aid and the like whenever he can and also very gradually inserting himself into the business of everyone he meets, because what the fuck is minding your own business and leaving other people alone, he’s never heard of it.

Erika is an OC from the same urban fantasy story as Foster van Denend and Chip Abaroa; she’s a big gay werewolf who likes fashion and punches people for fun and profit! She refers to herself as Chip’s aunt because “first cousin once removed” takes too long, but the point is that their dad is her cousin, and she is extremely protective of them. She’s not exactly a responsible guardian figure, but she’s doing her best, arguably. Her main focus has been and still is looking after Chip, though she’s been branching out some to work on exploring and stuff more and meeting people. Most full moons she can be found tearing around Enso as a bear-sized hyena-wolf-beast.

Current plans: Positive CR is always appreciated, and Ginko particularly has a soft spot for kids and teenagers. Negative CR is also very welcome, though somewhat harder to get; Ginko is often too forgiving for his own good (less so now than before Ryslig), so it’ll generally take either a string of Bad Experiences or one that just happens to hit his exact sore points pretty hard to get him to actually dislike someone. Other people disliking him, though, is perfectly welcome and honestly delightful. He’ll be continuing to look into medical stuff and otherwise get into people’s business.

Erika is SIGNIFICANTLY easier to gain negative CR with, partly because she doesn’t really know how to de-escalate and likes to Fite, so things can get aggressive fast with her. That said, though, she can be perfectly personable and friendly in conversations that don’t blow up, even if her sense of humor can still be kind of rude. She would love to have more people to talk fashion/makeup/etc with, and also to talk to more ladies because what can she say, women are Good.
